To think this is a real memory?

I have always had a very early memory that feels real to me, but my Mum says it must have been a dream, imagined, or similar, as she never heard about it.

The memory is that I knocked over a cup of tea at nursery, and it scalded a girl, who was taken to hospital in a yellow blanket. The girl in the memory is a real girl who went to my nursery. Something about the vividness of the memory, and distinctly remembering the yellow blanket, and exactly how it looked, really makes me think it was real.

I can well imagine that in the panic of having left hot tea around pre-school kids, and a child being hurt, you wouldn't care which child knocked it over, and so it's entirely reasonable my Mum would never have even heard about it?

But I'm not sure. What do you think?

Jelly - I know!

Wherever I saw it, it wasn’t talked about much. The snakebite I mean. It was mentioned almost in passing - eg “So John, who had once been bitten by a snake, ate his breakfast” or some such. That was it but you just knew it was relevant to his immunity.

My earliest memory is of VE night. I would have been about 14 months old. I remember being buttoned inside my mum’s tweed coat with her areas tight round me. I remember the scratchy feel of the tweed under my chin. My auntie was standing beside us and telling me to,”Look at the lights pet!” The searchlights were cross crossing the sky in patterns. I only realised when it was when I asked Auntie, years later, if she remembered telling me to look at lights in the sky. She told me it was VE night. She had stayed in with my mum and everyone else had gone out to celebrate. Dad was away in the army. It is a very precious little memory and I was glad to have it confirmed as such.

@AveAtqueVale

I can see why feel a bit uneasy, but that is an absolutely fascinating story!

I had a very vivid dream as a child. That we'd found bits of old ornaments over a demolition site and glued them together for my mum's shelves. I even mentioned it to my mum as fact and she was baffled. Like she'd have let her young children clamber and scavenge over a (non-existent) demolition site! Kids have some very vivid dreams
