Started doing competitions fairly recently and so far won zero! Often wonder if the competitions are a scam - has anyone ever won anything good?

I’ve won loads, but then I enter shedloads, when I get chance.
I seem to go through stages of winning stuff then nothing for ages.
I’ve mostly won little things like books, DVDs etc, but I have had some quite nice things, I won a Kindle Fire which DD got for Christmas a couple of years ago.
(This year she got LEGO I won in a raffle).
Also, I won a box of 50 kids books once, which she loved because she’s a proper book worm. Can’t remember anything else at the moment.
It’s definitely harder to win than it was 5 years ago, though.

To the people who enter a lot where do you find them?

I sometimes enter the itv cash ones but are always dubious and facebook "like and share" ones etc.

JeReviens · 26/01/2018 23:13

MSE is your friend khajiit - competitions forum. Winning is rarely instant and its said you can expect one win per 1200 competitions entered. It's certainly not a way to get rich quick!

doleritedinosaur · 26/01/2018 23:15

I’ve won vouchers on here.
A few book competitions.

I keep meaning to do more.

PurpleRobe · 26/01/2018 23:15

I've won at po.p kidswear and several friends have too.

They don't have many entrants so good chances !!

Years ago I won two tickets to see Michael Jackson at Wembley - it was a Smash Hits competition and I was from a village in NW England = BIG DEAL 😄.

bridgetreilly · 26/01/2018 23:16

Emma Bridgewater teapot and 2 mugs, in a pattern of my choice, personalised.

Sewing machine worth about £850.

Family photo session with one free print.

Picnic hamper.

I only enter for things I actually want to win, and I don't usually enter for cash prizes unless it's completely free to enter.

bridgetreilly · 26/01/2018 23:17

Oh, I forgot the spa weekend.

PrivateParkin · 26/01/2018 23:23

Reddlion · 26/01/2018 23:29

no i keep entering though would love to win this morning comps

skankingpiglet · 26/01/2018 23:39

Nope nothing despite entering a fair few. I did get picked on here for a product trial though. Does that count?

DH won us a short break in Paris a few years ago, which was amazing. My DGM used to enter and win loads many years ago. She was the first on her road to own a colour TV thanks to a Stork margarine comp Smile

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 26/01/2018 23:40

Ihatemarmite123 · 26/01/2018 23:54

I won a music tape 20+ years ago from a tv music competition.

£3 on an arcade game when I was underage and hit a few buttons.

HappenedForAReisling · 27/01/2018 00:01

A Guns n' Roses T shirt and two CDs in the 90s.
Harley Davidson motorbike.
£4800 cashback competition from my credit card.
A trip to Brazil.

Not the lottery though...

Notinmybackyard · 27/01/2018 00:03

I won an Evening Standard competition for my 15 year old son to go to the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He was well chuffed, my other 2 children not so much. How can you replicate that. I’ve also won a weekend break in a spa hotel, including all meals and a massage. I had to write a review for a broadsheet newspaper. I’ve also won lots of tickets for concerts in draws at the Roundhouse on the internet. Last year I won a ferry crossing to the Isles of Scilly on fb. Also 2 VIP tickets for the Henley Festival to meet Goldie, again on fb. Included champagne, wine and a massive pizza. Guess I’ve been pretty lucky as I don’t enter that many completions really these days.

Saracen · 27/01/2018 00:03

Probably not what you meant but...

In a charity shop where dd was great friends with the staff, I let dd enter a "guess the bunny's name" competition. For a pound you could write your guess as to what the giant stuffed rabbit's name was. If you were right, you'd win it. No way did we have space in our house for a rabbit bigger than dd, but hundreds of people had entered already so it was safe; there was no way we'd win. Just a bit of fun for dd, and I was happy to donate a pound to the charity.

A week later they phoned and left a message with dh to say that "Mr BoingBoing Bunnypants" was indeed the correct name and we could collect our prize. If I'd received the call myself I could've told them to give it to the next person but no, dh announced it to dd the moment we walked in the door, so there was no getting out of it.

Dd was a great favourite with the staff and I strongly suspect the contest was rigged. For seven years we were stuck with the massive bloody creature, which dd hardly ever played with.

FlawlessFuckup · 27/01/2018 00:06

I won an apple I watch! Was gobsmacked when it turned up

CointreauVersial · 27/01/2018 00:07

When I was 8 months pregnant I won a really posh buggy with all the accessories.

DH won an iPad last Christmas

I also won a week in a holiday cottage in Devon, on MN!

Yorkshire340 · 27/01/2018 00:39

Once. An all paid trip to the US Grand Prix.
Had to do a tiebreaker and that's wot won it me.

Chouetted · 27/01/2018 02:08

I won £100 once as a teenager from entering a crossword competition. The joke was that I'd only entered because she insisted no-one ever won those sorts of competitions!

Chouetted · 27/01/2018 02:09

Sorry, "she" being my mother, whose magazine the competition was in.

Auntieaunt · 27/01/2018 02:47

I won a nando's chicken for filling out a survey at my old university.

The only thing was that I didn't know what to do with it. I guess I could of taken some friends and bought a few sides but we didn't have that kind of money come end of third year.

I've never paid to enter a competition except the lottery but that's probably the reason I've never won anything.
