The writers and actors are at their peak, there’s a balance of freshness and experience and it hasn’t overstayed its welcome.

Eg
Friends
Blackadder
Buffy
24
Fawlty Towers

Not with broadchurch. Or doctor Foster. Or missing.

Whatthefunk · 26/01/2018 20:19

Broadchurch.....?

OwlinaTree · 26/01/2018 20:19

Second to last series of breaking bad is the best, series 4?

FellOutOfBed2wice · 26/01/2018 20:20

I’m very fond of series 2 of Peep Show and The Inbetweeners.

Whatthefunk · 26/01/2018 20:25

Line of duty has got better, with every series

I think series 3/4 are usually the best.

I think of:

Ally Mcbeal
Sex and the City
Friends
Brothers and Sisters
Dexter
Breaking Bad
House of Cards

Whatthefunk · 26/01/2018 20:57

House of cards.....ugh

GreatFuckability · 26/01/2018 20:59

The Walking Dead's first season was far superior (and have got progressively less good over time).
Breaking bad
Game of thrones

LucyAutumn · 26/01/2018 21:09

American Horror Story- Asylum!

eeanne · 26/01/2018 21:11

Friday Night Lights series 2 is a mess!

YouTheCat · 26/01/2018 21:13

With Frasier, it was season 7 that was the best.

ForalltheSaints · 26/01/2018 21:48

OP I think you are largely right for comedies, not so sure for dramas. Most comedy shows ought to be only two series in fact.

ZanyMobster · 26/01/2018 22:16

I disagree with 24, I thought series 1 & 4 were far superior to the others. I don't think Friends S2 was anywhere close to being the best season, probably 6 is IMO.

I definitely think there are many series where series 1 is not as good as the following series, especially dramas, I think the reason for that is that you get to know the characters so it's more meaningful, not many series get past S3 without it tailing off a bit though, there are of course exceptions as with anything.
