So more of a Was I unreasonable?
I just answered the door, I was expecting someone so I didn't look out to see who it was. And instead of my friend I was greeted by an elderly man who thrust a leaflet at me. I took it and then he started talking about how he was from a local church and talking about Jesus and God. I'm not religious so I started to try and tell him I wasn't interested but he just kept talking over me.
My 2yr old then wondered over and he turned his attention to her telling her about Jesus. I finally said "look we are not religious and I'd rather you didn't talk to my dd" he then looked at my pregnant belly and said "hopefully you will bring both of your children under God's gaze before it's too late"! I slammed the door in his face at that point. He then stood outside for 5 mins until my neighbour pulled up.
So was I unreasonable to react to I did?

goose1964 · 26/01/2018 18:56

I just say religion causes wars and shut the door

Brahumbug · 27/01/2018 11:23

Just point out that as a reasonable moral person who believes in equality and human rights, you couldn't possibly believe in Christianity, Islam or Judaism and that you grew out of your imaginary friends years agoHmm

Twistofanxiety · 27/01/2018 11:37

I would never preach at people but I'm more than happy to share my beliefs with others if they ask. If they've come to my door then they are fair game as far as I'm concerned.

sashh · 27/01/2018 11:47

I'm on the list of people whose door JW's are not allowed to knock on. That is one thing about JW's they are organised and they will give you a miss if you tell them to.

kaitlinktm · 27/01/2018 11:57

I have a notice on my door saying No uninvited traders, charities, canvassers or religious groups thank you. I got it off Ebay and it works a treat. If they do knock before they've seen it they are usually apologetic and slink off asap.

Had them many years ago when DC were v young and we lived on a newish estate. They knocked on the door when DC were napping and asked me "are you worried about the drug situation?" I said "yes, they're so bloody expensive and every dealer I know gets nicked. What have you got?" They couldn't get away fast enough. I was p1ssing myself laughing at them. For the record, I don't take drugs.

Now live in a rural hamlet where they can't be bothered to come...

My ExDH was working on night shifts so was in bed during the day and I was out. He slept in the niff as a lot us do.
Door bell rings persistently and eventually he goes down and answers it. As he's starkers he hides behind the door with just his head poking around. Two female JW,s give all theyv got in the name of all that's mighty. After they ignore 'im not interested' twice he opens the door fully and stands there.. Exit two faced faced middle ladies... Watchtower in hand..

AnneElliott · 27/01/2018 15:13

I've found they go if I tell them were strict Roman Catholics. They know they have no chance of converting them! DH and DS are Catholics but not strict ones.

TooManyPaws · 27/01/2018 15:22

A friend used to reckon that she was being used as a training aid for the local God botherers. She's not at all interested but knows all the contradictions etc in the bible and enjoys a good debate. It was always the same older bloke with a younger person who did all the talking while the older bloke watched the argument and stayed schtum.

Andrewofgg · 27/01/2018 15:23

"I'm a follower of Satan, do you want to come to our next Black Mass?"

I only had to use it once and the two poor silly sods were on their way at a rate of knots.

SilverySurfer · 27/01/2018 15:32

Andrewofgg A friend of mine said something like that to some JW's.
You couldn't see them for dust disappearing down the road and they never returned Grin

ChickenPaws · 27/01/2018 15:50

After trying repeatedly to put a stop to the JWs visiting our house, I telephoned their head office and told the bloke I wouldn’t be responsible for my actions if any of them knocked again. They haven’t returned, but I shouldn’t have to chase them and threaten like that.
