Emma McVey - 28lbs Weight loss 10 days after giving birth

Just been reading about Emma McVey in the paper - she has managed to lose 28lbs just 10 days after giving birth & is back to the weight she was before being pregnant! Shock

Now I don't really care about celebrities & the stories printed about them. I always think each to their own & whatever makes you happy, but this has really got my goat!

AIBU to think that this is completely ridiculous? Why the hell would you be so concerned with losing weight straight after giving birth? Surely you would have more important things to think about & you'd be enjoying your new baby!

Some women do view getting back to pre birth weight as a competition.

DeleteOrDecay · 26/01/2018 09:27

Some people do genuinely spring back quite quickly after giving birth. I think some of it is down to genetics. I don't know if this is the case with this person. I can't see how it's possible to lose 28lbs in 10 day through diet and exercise.

I am jealous. 5 years since my first was born and I still haven't 'sprung back'Grin

LeCroissant · 26/01/2018 09:29

It is not possible to lose 28lbs in ten days and still be alive.

It's a total fabrication.

Bonesy1 · 26/01/2018 09:30

I was in hospital with someone who left hospital same weight as she was before pregnant, there are huge variations in how a body reacts to pregnancy. Their baby was a healthy weight and they both look well

Yvest · 26/01/2018 09:31

This annoys me so much when people say that surely you should be enjoying your baby. Some people just lose weight. I never put on more than 28lb with any of my pregnancies. Once the weight of the baby comes off, all the placenta etc comes off and you’ve sweated out the rest of the fluids over a week or so you’ve lost the best part of 28lb already. I was back in my jeans 10 days after the birth of all my children with no effort other than making sure I didn’t gain too much in the pregnancy

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 26/01/2018 09:32

LeCroissant it is if most of that weight is baby plus fluid. Some people retain a huge amount of fluid during pregnancy so lose tons of weight in the week after birth. I was back to pre-pregnancy weight in a week (not deliberately, it just worked out that way).

RadioGaGoo · 26/01/2018 09:33

I didn't even think that I would still look pregnant after giving birth! It was a bit of a shock to still see a bump there.

ArbitraryName · 26/01/2018 09:33

I had DS1 at 19 and I left the hospital after 3 days in size 8 trousers. I didn’t need to make any effort whatsoever. With DS2 (at 28) the weight hung round longer.

BadlyParkedRangeRover · 26/01/2018 09:33

You lose a lot of water in the days after giving birth - your blood volume increases by a third to a half when pregnant.
I didn't gain any weight when pregnant (big to start with) and 5 days post birth was 26lbs under my booking weight. It isn't fat loss it's fluid loss.

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/01/2018 09:33

Apparently she’s been relying on “fat loss” shakes, which she and her partner are now peddling.

I think she is naturally a very tiny, slim woman. I find it hard to believe she put on 28lbs looking at photo’s of her full term pregnant, she probably put on far less. However she got a lot of stick for remaining small throughout her pregnancy (her bump was astoningly dainty) and perhaps feels under pressure to “prove” she put on a more normal amount of weight. Though the healthy weight of the baby should be enough proof, she does have some dodgy shakes to promote...

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/01/2018 09:35

*astonishingly

RitaMills · 26/01/2018 09:36

She seems to be pushing fat burning shakes so I guess there was a financial incentive to it. Plus she is with one of those vapid Geordie Shore guys, any longer with a hint of fat and he’d be off shagging someone else.

MirandaWest · 26/01/2018 09:37

I quite possibly lost 28lb within 10 days of DS being born although that would be from my weight just before he was born rather than just after as there was baby, rather more blood than I'd like to have lost, and about a gallon of retained water that came out on day 3

BinkyandBunty · 26/01/2018 09:39

When I first weighed myself a couple of weeks after DS1's birth and had lost 18kg off my hospital admission weight. Leaving me 2kg lighter than my pre-pregnancy weight.

I had pre eclampsia so had a lot of fluid retention before the birth and pissed like a racehorse in the days after. DS1 also fed like a demon, and left me little time to eat.

It certainly wasn't something I tried to do or was particularly proud of!

PistFump · 26/01/2018 09:39

I was back to normal the week after having ds... don't get me wrong I was fat when I got pregnant but I was back to pre pregnancy fat the week after. I had HG and carried a 10lb baby so I was fortunate that I didn't really put on any 'proper' weight. I put a load more on whilst I was on maternity leave mind. And now I'm pregnant again and even bigger than I was first time around, again have had HG and I'm not piling it on. I anticipate the same happening again but if not then so be it.

Camomila · 26/01/2018 09:39

Is that counting the weight of the baby etc?

I went back to my pre-baby weight about a week after giving birth but that's because I only gained 9k (baby plus fluid plus placenta)...Not because I was trying not to gain weight, I just spent 5/6 months throwing up when I was pregnant! Envy

I can see how it's possible just due to circumstances/genetics but I'm don't think it's very responsible to advertise it as something all women can do...especially if they are recovering from a difficult birth or trying to establish breastfeeding so need to eat enough.

LeCroissant · 26/01/2018 09:40

If some of that is baby and placenta, then that's not 'losing weight' it's called 'giving birth.' If you genuinely lost 28lbs of body weight you'd be dead.

2b1c51 · 26/01/2018 09:41

I weighed less the day after I gave birth to dc1 than I did pre pregnancy. Now 11 months postpartum with dc2 and still 1 stone over!

Cocoloco75 · 26/01/2018 09:41

I got home from hospital weighing less than I did pre pregnancy. The reason for this was being overweight to start with and eating a bit more healthily during pregnancy, that along with no wine for 9 months meant that I actually lost a good bit of weight. It can happen.

Monoblock67 · 26/01/2018 09:42

I finished my pregnancies the same weight as when they began-baby weighs about a stone and a half all in and id lost weight from other areas! No morning sickness but was very off food the whole of both pregnancies, so wasn’t eating very much at all. Both babies were a healthy weight and generally well.

Everybody is different, everyone’s body reacts to pregnancy differently!

WorraLiberty · 26/01/2018 09:43

Some people can lose weight and enjoy their babies.

But I'd be very surprised if she'd gained 2 stone anyway. I expect it was mostly the weight of the baby/placenta/fluid etc.

As long as she's eating healthily, it's her business. Well even if she's not, it's still her business.

Love51 · 26/01/2018 09:44

8lb of baby,7lb of amniotic fluid. Then there's the pints of blood that come out. Plus breastfeeding. I didn't weigh myself as I wasn't overweight before and straight after babies, but once my womb had contracted back I was in my pre preg clothes pretty much immediately both times. tall size 12.
I got fat on my second mat leave, using sugar as a substitute for sleep.if I could have afforded a nanny I probably wouldn't have needed so much cake!

ArbitraryName · 26/01/2018 09:44

Alas I had no magic fat burning shakes to flog after having DS1.

Helllllooooooo · 26/01/2018 09:44

I lost about that 2 years ago.
Baby, blood, fluid, water retention loss, sleep and less appetite.

Queeniebed · 26/01/2018 09:45

Well I lost over a stone almost immediately after giving birth - baby plus placenta plus fluid plus blood (normal bleed) so I really would be impressed
