I go round and round and round and round in circles. Then round and round and round some more.

I know the science. Eat less, move more.

I’m lazy. I have little time to do a workout. I love junk food. I am my own worst enemy.

I know where I go wrong. I know my excuses too...

I’m wondering what worked for YOU.

Just clean eating? Slimming world or weight watchers? Going vegan?

No tips, watching hopefully!

Liskee · 24/01/2018 21:29

Watching this bigtime as I’m in exactly the same predicament. Toddlers to manage and lack of time are my main issues.

People who do lose weight and keep it off all seem to say being held accountable (ie weigh in of some kind) and counting, calories, points, subs, whatever. Just being aware of what you’re eating.

Is it really that simple?!?!Confused

BadlyParkedRangeRover · 24/01/2018 21:30

Actually that's a lie! I've been doing a lot of research recently. Low carb high fat is where the evidence is (for weight loss, not so much keeping it off!)

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 24/01/2018 21:30

I stopped eating sugar and for once am keeping weight off. Not obsessively no sugar by the way. I just don’t eat cereal bars/biscuits/cereal etc basically anything processed and sweet. I still eat fruit and eat sweet stuff like a pudding on a fri night. I also limit my carb portion at dinner but have a sandwich at lunch and porridge at breakfast. I reckon I was stacking away 300 Calories a day easily with cereal bar s etc I also snack far less as a result. Worth a shot

Moussemoose · 24/01/2018 21:33

I eat less in total. I eat more protein to keep me full longer. I cut down on all sugar, including fruit. I limit carbs.

I do this most of the time. Two weeks in the summer, Christmas I eat how I want.

NeverRed · 24/01/2018 21:33

SlimmingWorld, In the last year I’ve lost 3 stone4lbs. And kept it off.

Whisperingwinds · 24/01/2018 21:34

Calorie counting , logging everything I eat in mfp , weighing myself religiously atleast once a week and most importantly not letting any new weight settle in. If I gain two pounds because I binged over holidays I ensure I knock them off right away. Lost about 35 pounds about 4 years ago and have kept it off. It’s really about making choices that you can adapt as lifestyle changes .

Pidlan · 24/01/2018 21:34

I'd like to know this too. I can lose weight, no worries, but find maintaining the loss so so boring. You don't get the thrill of a changing body shape, because you've already done all that. And you have to switch your mindset from having a goal, to having reached your goal and having to stay there. I tend to reach my target weight, maintain for a few weeks, and then slip back into old bad eating habits.

Pinkbutton85 · 24/01/2018 21:35

I’m such a convenient eater. Breakfast is fine, I can do porridge or fruit and natural yogurt. But I never know what to have for lunch. So it’s usually a sandwich and a couple of bags of crisps Blush

I learned how to eat properly. Don't waste 500 calories on a slice of cake when you could make 5 chicken sausages, 2 eggs & a slice of toast for 420 & it keeps you full longer. Fill yourself up on good food & you won't binge. Eat more good stuff. Stop eating sweet food & you'll eventually stop craving it.

The more you exercise & walk the more it will naturally become part of your life.

Bosabosa · 24/01/2018 21:35

Battled weight issues for 18 years - gave up sugar 9 months ago and I am dropping weight and keeping it off and I eat anything else I want.
David Gillespie’s books are what got me into it.
I still eat white bread/flour etc. I just don’t eat sugar or fructose unless it is in whole fruit.
I will eat glucose or rice malt syrup
(As that has no fructose in it) and cook with that if i fancy something sweet.
If I buy something processed (cereal etc) , I check that the sugar content is no more than 4g per 100g.
It is wonderful to be freed from the dieting cycle.

cunningartificer · 24/01/2018 21:36

More exercise than calories. I found the stepz app really motivating!

BarbaraOcumbungles · 24/01/2018 21:36

LCHF is fantastic for losing weight but completely unsustainable as a way of life for most people. I lost 2 stone low carbing and the put it all back on the second I started eating normal food again.

Livinthedream1 · 24/01/2018 21:36

The only way is to create a calorie deficit to lose the fat and then eat at “maintenance” and you will stay the same. It’s energy balance in versus out. Any “fad” diet may work if it’s causkng a calorie deficit. You need to count calories. Try listening to a guy named James Smith PT. he’s close to the bone but straight talking. HTH

user1466690252 · 24/01/2018 21:36

my fitness pal. logging everything. sticking to the calories and making sure I always hit my protien target so the bulk of my calorie comes from protein

Smurfy23 · 24/01/2018 21:37

Slimming world.

Ive never lasted more than a week or two on a diet- ive been going for nearly 4 months now and am painfully close to target.

I like the weekly weigh ins- i know i will be held to account. The plan itself doesnt feel like a diet and I can eat tons on it and still lose weight.

user1466690252 · 24/01/2018 21:37

James smith PT on fb is who i listened to and it has been life changing.

Mycatisahacker · 24/01/2018 21:37

You know op you just don’t want to Grin

Eat less move more for life! Cut the carbs and choose the salad option. Wink

BIWI · 24/01/2018 21:38

I lost 2 stone low carbing and the put it all back on the second I started eating normal food again.

But 'normal food' is what made you gain weight! So of course you would put it all back on if you went back to eating that once you'd lost the weight.

WonderLime · 24/01/2018 21:39

Calorie counting. I counted everything for over a year - after that I kept a passing note of what I was eating. I lost 3 and a half stone.

I also exercised a lot - I like food and would often eat/ drink whatever I want (home cooked but full fat dishes), but I would do an hour HIIT/Insanity/gym session beforehand.

I only really stopped paying attention just before getting pregnant (not related). I'm now about 10lbs of my goal weight post partum.

If you are prone to wright gain due to poor eating habits it is a struggle, but it does eventually become routine.

NewYearNewMe18 · 24/01/2018 21:40

Slimming world, plus walking for 90 mins a day.

We all know what we have to do - sometime we just need that motivation

5.5 stone, but I admit I'm finding it hard to lose that last half stone. It's plateaued.

SilverdaleGlen · 24/01/2018 21:40

Fuck going vegan I live on dairy! I've lost 4 stone and am still going. I went through the loop of diet (WW/SW/Fitness Pal), break diet, may as well eat as much shit as I want before restarting diet for years!

You need to change mindset, it's a way of eating that is lifelong, not a diet that can be broken and restarted again and again.

It's about balance, it doesn't matter if you have the odd nice treat, the odd snack, because on balance you are eating sensibly.

Also eat the way that suits you, I could never do the 3 meals, no snacking, nothing after 6 rule.

I'm a grazer so I eat little and often, lumps of cheese, glass of milk, toast, pasta, bananas etc. And I'll have a few squares of chocolate, a takeaway when I want, or a meal out which is fine as 80% of the time I don't!

GoldenBlue · 24/01/2018 21:42

Slimming world, mfp and reduced simple carbs. 3 stone 9 lost and kept off for a year.

Stuff my face with veg plus lots of protein

ChesterFuckingDraws · 24/01/2018 21:42

I lost just over 4st with slimming world and taking up running.
Organisation is the key for me, I work shifts so there’s no proper set routine for my meals etc but forward planning really stops me eating rubbish/snacking.
I also cleared the house of crisps, chocolate etc as I’m a bit of an emotional eater so if it’s not there I can’t have it.
Will power is also a big part of it, I kept taking pictures in my underwear (at every 1/2 stone loss) I’m the only one who’s ever seen them but If I was struggling I’d look at the fat pictures and it was enough to spur me on.

InDubiousBattle · 24/01/2018 21:42

I lost 3 stone doing slimming world about a year ago. Took me 7 months and I haven't been back for 9 months or so.
