I go round and round and round and round in circles. Then round and round and round some more.

I know the science. Eat less, move more.

I’m lazy. I have little time to do a workout. I love junk food. I am my own worst enemy.

I know where I go wrong. I know my excuses too...

I’m wondering what worked for YOU.

Just clean eating? Slimming world or weight watchers? Going vegan?

Slimming world for me. Once I got over the initial cravings it was easy and I lost a stone. Some of the recipes are really good too.

Ginger1982 · 24/01/2018 21:44

Slimming World rocks! If you do it properly you will lose weight. I've lost over a stone so far.

ToothyMcPuthy · 24/01/2018 21:44

I use My Fitness Pal and I cut out crisps. I used to have a bag every day but now have one bag per week. If I fancy something crunchy I have a small bag of mini breadsticks with some humous.

I also tend to have one day per week where I don't really watch what I'm eating but make sure I get back on it the next day.

I lost 3 stone in total over a period of about a year and a half. If I can do it OP then so can you!

Good luck.

SoleBizzz · 24/01/2018 21:45

Kept off six stones since 2010. Cambridge diet.

SoleBizzz · 24/01/2018 21:45

Not six. Eight stones.

Annabelle4 · 24/01/2018 21:46

I don't even need to count or think about it anymore as it's just the way I eat now, but Monday - Friday I eat around 1,400 calories, maybe even less.
I eat more at weekends (e.g. Have a pizza and bottle of wine every Saturday night)
I used Myfitnesspal in the beginning - 4 years ago now. I lost 4 stone and have maintained since.

Pinkbutton85 · 24/01/2018 21:46

I did try slimming world for a while, but got very bored very quickly.

Do you not think their recipes all taste the same? E.g the spaghetti and the chilli tasted the same and very bland. That was when I followed their exact recipe.

When I tweaked it it was okay. But got told off for doing so! Grin

I never "diet". Generally healthy food but I don't deny myself treats when I want them. No fads! Rarely drive, so walk a lot. I've got 2 preschoolers so lots of parks and pushing buggies. A non-office job and I run to work (shower facilities available).

I'm by no means skinny but I have a normal BMI and am a size 10 in most shops. For me it's about setting up good habits and lifestyle so I rarely think about weight.

I'm also lucky to have a healthy relationship with food. I really enjoy it but I don't comfort eat. Although I'm currently lying with my 15month old craving a cuppa and a chocolate biscuit so maybe I do a bit in the evenings.

Strokethefurrywall · 24/01/2018 21:47

I don't have weight to lose, but I intermittent fast and don't eat sugar or processed carbs. Which basically means I don't each much carbohydrate and go into ketosis within 2 days.

I can drop a lot of weight in the week and feel great on it and I relax it slightly at the weekend, indulging if I'm at a party, or having drinks etc. I think the secret is the zero sugar as I have absolutely no cravings whatsoever. Once the sugar is out of my system I get "hungry" for food but never that intense "I've got to have a muffin" craving. It's genuine hunger and it feels far different to the highs and lows that I had before when I ate sugar.

For me, cutting out processed sugar has absolutely changed my life.

Helspopje · 24/01/2018 21:48

Increased protein
Increased calories
Weight lifting

Toffeelatteplease · 24/01/2018 21:48

My fitness pal logged everything. Ate less moved more.

I put a bit back on every now and then but it's back to logging everything again for a while.

JumpingintoLCHF · 24/01/2018 21:49

I've said this on several posts like this now but LCHF has been the key for me. It's not a diet but a way of eating so as far as I'm concerned I won't go back to eating lots of carbs. I've lost 2 and a half stone since July with low effort.

I found that I was eating non stop. Then I read about how carbs give you a sugar spike which your body craves once your Bs drops again. So i cut back massively on carbs and stopped wanting to graze constantly. I don't miss the carbs and have replaced them with veg and protein. I don't calorie count or anything, I just choose low carb options.

GammaDelta · 24/01/2018 21:49

Placemarking

Chelsea26 · 24/01/2018 21:49

I think as PP have alluded to it’s understanding that to maintain your target weight you will always be on a maintenance plan. For me it’s just keeping track e.g I had cheese for lunch so no cheese with dinner, or I’m not going to have this slice of cake for colleagues birthday today because I want to drink all the wine on Friday.

So you can have treats but you do need to still be mindful of how many.

Also, again as said above, it helps me to have my ideal weight and then a weight that triggers you to get back on track (mine is 3lb above) so you don’t suddenly find yourself with a stone to lose which feels too hard.

usernameunavailable · 24/01/2018 21:50

I count calories

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 24/01/2018 21:50

Well... there are two answers to that really.

Answer 1 is low carb and lots of exercise, including lifting heavy.

But answer 2 is the real answer: i joined a martial arts gym where everyone was fitter and more committed than me and i wanted to keep up with them. Also the coaches were really positive (to an irritating extent)Grin

I think finding a good peer pressure thing is really the key.

Bluntness100 · 24/01/2018 21:50

I lost 2 stone low carbing and the put it all back on the second I started eating normal food again

Sounds like you didn't read up on how to introduce carbs back in and maintain, like any diet, if you go back to eating as you were, of course you will put weight back on, eating as you were is what made you overweight in thr first place.

Low carb works for me. It kills appetite and is easy to maintain. Yes if you go back to stuffing yourself with crap you'll put weight back on.

JumpingintoLCHF · 24/01/2018 21:51

I get "hungry" for food but never that intense "I've got to have a muffin" craving. It's genuine hunger and it feels far different to the highs and lows that I had before when I ate sugar.

This describes it well.

bridgetreilly · 24/01/2018 21:51

Blood sugar diet. Literally everything I'm eating is food that I really like. I'm not hungry. I feel better. Rapid weight loss is so motivating. I never want to eat carb-heavy meals again.

Carolwithane · 24/01/2018 21:51

5:2 diet for me, logging on MFP and drinking lots of water plus exercise (walking and swimming initially then spin and pump classes)

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 24/01/2018 21:52

There’s no secret to weight loss, it’s clean and healthy eating and keeping yourself active and fit.

Fad diets aren’t going to work, and you can have junk food, but it’s got to be in moderation not routine.

Poshsausage · 24/01/2018 21:52

I’ve been fasting for 16 hours every day if not more then sticking to under 1400 calories tracked on mfp but I’m in the early stages of a five stone loss needed . It’s taken away my sugar cravings and reduced my portion sizes and therefore stomach am really impressed with how much better I feel
Didn’t gel with Slimming world

Maverick66 · 24/01/2018 21:53

WW No Count plan.
Stick to it work days and relax at weekends.
4stone in 12 months.

specialsubject · 24/01/2018 21:55

If the faddy eating didn't keep the weight off then it is a failure. Hardly suprising really.

Tmgc123 · 24/01/2018 21:55

The theory is simple, putting t into practice is harder.

Any “diet” means you be calorie cutting and therefore losing weight.

As far as I’m concerned the best way is to make slow and steady changes.

Cut out a sugar in your tea, a biscuit, replace items. Don’t buy things... if you buy junk you are intending to eat it! If you don’t want to eat it, it shouldn’t be in the house for kids.

Slow and steady, sustainable changes. We know what’s bad for us, gradually get rid until it becomes your normality.

If you can exercise, do so. Do anything. T25, a walk, a jog, one class a week. Anything will help.

That’s what worked for me!
