Incan fucking descent another product ruined

After chatting about Scotland this morning I've been fancying some Tunnocks tea cakes. Managed to get some at lunch time for a treat.

However they've only gone and fucking added palm oil. I'm sure they never used to do this.

Is there no chocolate product that hasn't been ruined?

Aibu to think palm oil products should have a warning?

Waitrose ow brand is lovely, I wish they'd open a shop near us

FlaviaAlbia · 24/01/2018 21:33

I really don't like Green and Black's. I feel like I should, but someone bought me a selection of small bars last summer and I ended up binning them.

Hepzibar · 24/01/2018 21:33

I don't give a toss about Tunnocks tea cakes, but OP, the title of this thread is my all time favourite.

Incan fucking descant genius Grin Grin

This is useful too.

Waitrose own brand is surprisingly good and surprisingly cheap, given the quality.

Montezuma and Madecasse are also very good, though sadly not cheap.

StealthPolarBear · 24/01/2018 21:34

Green and black is nasty. Bitter aftertaste

HildaZelda · 24/01/2018 21:34

Aldi or Lidl are my go to now for basic (non fancy) chocolate. Miles better than any of the others. Cadbury is really bad now but the worst ever has to be Quality Street. Tasted a few at Xmas. Absolutely disgusting.

StealthPolarBear · 24/01/2018 21:36

I have to say I still love cadbury caramel. But the normal milk choc tastes odd

Flopjustwantscoffee · 24/01/2018 21:42

Tony chocoloney or whatever it's called is palm oil free. The milk one is the closest thing I've found to how I remember cadburys dairy milk tasting (although weirdly the milk is packaged in red and the dark chocolate in blue which seems wrong to me). Also no child slaves so that's a plus. Sorry - I know it doesn't solve your tunnock tea cakes problem tho.

crumbsinthecutlerydrawer · 24/01/2018 21:49

Oops, yes the Irish Dairy Milk does have palm oil in. It must’ve changed since I last bought any, it was a while ago.

raymonReddingtonsOtherdaughter · 24/01/2018 21:53

Isn’t hotel chocolate nice ? Oh somoen told me that is the only nice chocolate, and as everything else is now awful, I was going to buy some ...oh
My mother had no like chocolate for chocolatiers as a present, and they had lovely flavours, it was dark chocolate though ( all that was left) and I prefer milk, but I don’t know what they tasted like..

dementedma · 24/01/2018 21:56

the only chocolate bars I really like now are Ripples. They still taste of chocolate.
Aldi stuff is ok and M&S chocolate peanuts are good.

SharonMott · 24/01/2018 21:58

Ha ha. I came on here thinking you had traced your family tree back to the Incan empire OP

BakedBeans47 · 24/01/2018 22:01

Oh I had a tea cake recently and thought it didn’t taste right. Now I know why x

iskegness · 24/01/2018 22:05

How can green and blacks taste any different? No palm oil.

Why did they all start adding palm oil at once?

Its fine Ray but its not old recipe dairy milk. I wouldn't rave about it thats for sure.

I think the fact that we have four enormous boxes here has left us a little sick of it. It seems to be the go to gift this year and DH had four boxes from clients!

BelleandBeast · 24/01/2018 22:08

SAINSBURYS own brand, bot regular and basics, soya but no palm oil

I think co-op too are ok

I don't buy Cadbury now, they are a byword for shite.

LapdanceShoeshine · 24/01/2018 22:13

Agree on Aldi, Lidl & Divine

The other thing about palm oil (as well is being nasty & taking forest from wildlife) is that it keeps washing up on UK beaches, & is attractive to but toxic for dogs Sad

LapdanceShoeshine · 24/01/2018 22:16

the ship was wrecked 26 years ago but the palm oil is just coming out now

It's washing up on NW & N Wales coasts

GrouchyKiwi · 24/01/2018 22:16

Rebeccaslicker Whittaker's doesn't have palm oil (according to the packet I have in my hand). What part of the country are you in that Tesco has NZ/Aussie Cadbury? That would probably be cheaper for me than getting stuff from Kiwi/Oz shops here!

GrouchyKiwi · 24/01/2018 22:17

Also: I don't know what the title of the thread is about. Sad

Emily7708 · 24/01/2018 22:19

Oh no, is nothing sacred?! Another old favourite ruined.

Rednailsandnaeknickers · 24/01/2018 22:20

Mookatron what's the basis of the grades on that list please? I'd be interested to know how they have rated them.

I see Nestle is in green but I boycott them for their practice of flogging formula and buying up water resources in the developing world.
Also there are several lawsuits pending in the US against Johnson & Johnson for carcinogenic baby products.

Rebeccaslicker · 24/01/2018 22:22

Grouchy - London but the Tesco up in Cheshire also has them. You need a big Tesco and you need to look for the imports section - amongst all the shit American cereal and cheetos you'll find the antipodean dairy milks. £5 a bar though!

Tesco doesn't have whittakers but you can get that online.

MyNameIsInigoMantoya · 24/01/2018 22:23

Singing

They must be losing millions surely.

They ARE losing millions, as chocolate sales are down in a big way. They're blaming it on consumers turning against sugar (i.e. those responsible for changing the products are covering their own arses).
