So frustrating.

I went to work today and by lunch time I was fatigued. Brain fogged. Sat in my car feeling like I couldn't carry on with the rest of the day. I just have no energy at all and I'm sure it must be my diet?!

By time my shift finished I couldn't stop yawning. I felt absolutely drained. I didn't go to gym as planned and am instead laid on the sofa eating chocolate wanting to go to bed.

My diet for today was:

Breakfast - fuel protein porridge and coffee.
Lunch - bacon and cheese toastie made with 400g (small slices) 50/50 bread. A packet of hula hoops.
Dinner: spaghetti Bol made with 5% fat beef mince, wholewheat spaghetti and dolmio with a sprinkle of cheese.

A) why am I not losing weight?
B) why do I have no energy?
C) why do I feel hungry and weak?
D) why do I look like shit?????

My diet today by comparison (losing 1.5-2 pounds a week)

Loads of tea and sugar free squash.
Half a punnet of grapes.
Large mixed salad, ham, hard boiled eggs and cold boiled potatoes in a fat free dressing.
Beef stew made with carrots, swede, celery and mushrooms eaten with mashed sweet potato and a pack of frozen steam fresh veg
Blueberry Yoghurt and an apple and two small cereal bars.

No problem going to the loo!

Naillig222 · 22/01/2018 21:17

This can’t be serious?

PrimalLass · 22/01/2018 21:17

You feel crap because you are eating crap. But yes, get your thyroid checked.

Subtleconstraints · 22/01/2018 21:17

Broccoli, spinach and asparagus all contain lots of iron.

Eat strips of steak, with a heap of spinach and and red peppers to boost your iron intake (vit c helps with iron absorption).

Google Floradix iron tonic - you can get it from Boots!

And, in the nicest possible way, lose the ready meals and processed foods if you can.

Why no fresh vegetables with the chicken Kiev? It takes 5 mins to steam broccoli for example. Or microwave a pouch of peas, sugar snap peas and broccoli.

SeaToSki · 22/01/2018 21:19

I agreed with all the PP suggesting more veges and fruit. Also get your thyroid levels checked, all your problems are symptoms of low thyroid levels.

NapQueen · 22/01/2018 21:20

Dolmio is full of shit. Buy some pre prepped frozen onions, garlic and peppers if you are short on time and add a tin of chopped toms and a dash of dried herbs and theres a low cal healthy sauce.

Swap out the pasta for loads of broccoli and asparagus and green beans.

Add banana to your porridge.

Lunch of a massive bowl of chopped cucumber, tomatoes, red onion, olives and feta cheese. Keep the crisps if you are still hungry after that.

Ditch coffee altogether. Try decaf while you wean yourself off.

idontlikealdi · 22/01/2018 21:20

No one is going to lose weight eating chicken Kiev and cheese and bacon toasties.

Bluntness100 · 22/01/2018 21:21

The answer to all four is clearly your shite diet. I'm unsure if this is for real too, crisps, chocolate cereal, chips, bacon and cheese toastie.

Cmon, you don't expect to lose weight on that do you? Cut the crap and start to eat vegetables and salads with your meals.

JaneEyre70 · 22/01/2018 21:21

Sounds like a very unhealthy diet, too many processed foods and too high in sugar/fat/salt. You are walking straight into diabetes and heart attack territory. Less processed foods, and try to build up your veg intake especially leafy green ones.

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 22/01/2018 21:22

What everyone else said, but there are far worse things than Dolmio. The jar I have in the cupboard is basically tomatoes and spices, with some maize starch (also found in most mainstream yogurts).

Tinseltower · 22/01/2018 21:22

Your diet sounds quite poor. A normal diet would contain at least 5 fruit/veg portions per day. If you a trying to lose weight you wed to swap carbs for more fruit and veg. 0 fruit and veg and you’ll struggle to have any bowel movements on a low calorie diet.

Ditch the fast food completely - no Kiev’s, ready meals etc.

londonrach · 22/01/2018 21:23

I couldnt eat what you do..i miss the veg. Also l feel sick as your diet is vvv heavy. Keep a food diary for a week as tomorrows food might be better than today

specialsubject · 22/01/2018 21:24

Almost no veg. Expensive crappy ready meals. Expensive crappy ways of wrecking food - make spag bol with a tin of tomatoes, herbs, tomato puree, chopped and fried onion, done.

Low fat food - yuk and full of sugar.

eurochick · 22/01/2018 21:26

It's worth getting your ferritin and b12 levels checked. Or just try some spatone and b12 spray to see if you feel better. When mine are low (even if they are within the ok range but low for me) I can fall into the trap of eating too many carbs to give an energy boost which is a very short term fix and just leads to you feeling more hungry and knackered.

halfwitpicker · 22/01/2018 21:26

I left too late for the train, how come I didn't catch it?

ConfusedHmm

chockaholic72 · 22/01/2018 21:27

My diet went completely to pot since September so my NY resolution was to eat healthier. So far so good - this is what I had today:
Breakfast - two boiled eggs, one slice toast in soldiers and glass of orange juice with bits in, watered down a bit
Mid-morning - banana
Lunch - felafel, salad, flatbread and hummus.
Afternoon - red grapes and a cereal bar
Tea - roasted cod, big pile of roasted carrots and some asparagus.

I feel full and don't want a chocolate hit, unlike yesterday when I didn't eat properly, the weather got me down, and I ate a massive bar of Toblerone. I try to eat more veg than fruit - it's not that I don't like fruit but it just doesn't taste of much these days because it's so intensively farmed. Hummus is also one of your five a day. I've been way more regular since I started eating more veg too.

Nquartz · 22/01/2018 21:27

NotAnotherJaffaCake dolmio is incredibly high in salt though. Making sauce from scratch is much healthier

peachypetite · 22/01/2018 21:28

Pretty obvious. Too many white carbs, not enough fruit and veg or protein.

londonrach · 22/01/2018 21:28

Today ive had

Breakfast...toast with honey and orange juice
Lunch...cheese sandwich with kiwi for afterwards
Tea....fresh cod baked in foil in the oven, boiled. potatoes, broccci, sugar snap peas and carrots followed by yogurt

Its not the best diet but i need my veg!!!

Ive drank water all day. I also had two chocolate cookies as they were offer in sainsburys.

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 22/01/2018 21:31

Rather than all pile in to the op - too beige, too processed, no fruit or veg!!! (Which I agree with), maybe we should be saying well done to the op for recognizing she has a problem and wanting to do something about it.

She isn’t snacking, she’s eating 3 meals a day and not drinking alcohol.

What about keeping with the porridge for breakfast, but maybe swap your lunch for a bacon and tomato sandwich, a salad and a yogurt? Or some carrot and coriander soup and a cheese sandwich. Small changes at first, then build on it.

OrangeCatnip · 22/01/2018 21:33

If you are fatigued i would recommend trying to quit the coffee. that stuff messes with your day/nigh rhythms. it isnt just free energy/wakefullness you know! other then that i would suggest you read up on sugar/starch (yes carbs are a sugar) and what they do to your body and insulin. you seem to think that cutting fat out equals weight loss and this wont be the case if you are living entirely off carbs instead. fatphobia is utterly misguided our bodies NEED fat far more then they need carbs. you cannot even use more then about 50g of carbs in a hour as that is the extent that your liver can store. the rest will be stored as fat.

As pp have suggested swap out your mountains of carbs for veggies and fruit, the vitamins will do you a lot of good' and you will cut out alot of the empty carbs. Use fat to make things taste good, fat makes us feel satiated and activates the taste buds in the tongue (which is why low fat stuff tastes awful and makes you hungry) the fat doesnt have to be bacon/butter. you can go along way with some good quality oils, eggs, avocado etc if you are skeptical. sesame oil was a big revelation for me, makes bog standard veggies in a stirfry taste amazing!!

fastfrank · 22/01/2018 21:34

Your diet lacks so many nutrients. Get some fruit and veg down you and you'll definitely make friends with the loo.

Ribrabrob · 22/01/2018 21:35

I don't mean to be rude, but surely you know that your diet isn't healthy? I'd be very surprised if anybody felt good and lost weight eating what you say you do.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 22/01/2018 21:36

OP, your diet can certainly be improved, but have you considered getting your Thyroid levels checked ? I think you should, just to be on the safe side.😀

becotide · 22/01/2018 21:38

So ... to compare, I'm sticking to a 1400 calorie a day diet

Breakfast was 100g smoked salmon on a small white roll

Lunch was chicken breast with lettuce

Dinner was pasta, prawns, carrots, mange tout, broccoli and cauliflower.

I always put 300g of veg on my dinner plate. This is about 3 cups, maybe 4.
Snacks were 5 cups of tea with sugar, a 30g bag of doritos, and a 20g piece of cheese.

yesterday I ate 45g of bblueberry wheats with milk for breakfast. lunch was a ham salad sandwich with 2 plums, and dinner was gammon, new potatoes, carrots, cabbage and leeks.

This isn't vegetable nightmare, this is normal food.

Your diet is truly dreadful. Drop the idea that baked beans are a vegetable. They really aren't. Go to Iceland and fill your freezer with frozen veg - peas, green beans, leeks, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, ready chopped peppers, cabbage, baby carrots. buy some fresh lettuce and cucumber. Buy a food scale.

Every single day, have salad in your sandwich for lunch and then for dinner, have 300g of vegetables. It's genuinely not excessive. Pick 4 out of the list and have 75g of each.
