To ask you to analyse my diet and tell me why I lack energy, motivation and bowel movements?

So frustrating.

I went to work today and by lunch time I was fatigued. Brain fogged. Sat in my car feeling like I couldn't carry on with the rest of the day. I just have no energy at all and I'm sure it must be my diet?!

By time my shift finished I couldn't stop yawning. I felt absolutely drained. I didn't go to gym as planned and am instead laid on the sofa eating chocolate wanting to go to bed.

My diet for today was:

Breakfast - fuel protein porridge and coffee.
Lunch - bacon and cheese toastie made with 400g (small slices) 50/50 bread. A packet of hula hoops.
Dinner: spaghetti Bol made with 5% fat beef mince, wholewheat spaghetti and dolmio with a sprinkle of cheese.

A) why am I not losing weight?
B) why do I have no energy?
C) why do I feel hungry and weak?
D) why do I look like shit?????

Another saying not enough fruit and veg. In your spag bol you could add mushrooms, onions and peppers- I always have done

Subtleconstraints · 22/01/2018 21:06

No veg! And no fruit!

Substitute home made veg soup or salad for toastie at lunch time.

Substitute pear for hula hoops.

Make home made tom sauce for pasta instead of jar.

Also, the bacon, cheese X2, the hula hoops and I imagine the Dolmio sauce will contain lots of salt. And all the carbs contain sugars. Are you drinking enough water?

losingmymindiam · 22/01/2018 21:07

Your plate should be at least a third fruit and veg if not more. Try and have at least 5 portions of veg per day. Fruit not necessary if you don’t like it. Eat whole meal carbs and drink lots of water.

Mcakes · 22/01/2018 21:07

If you can't take Ferratin supplements then I echo other posters. You need a ton more fresh veggies, esp green leafy stuff!

Calvinlookingforhobbs · 22/01/2018 21:08

Your diet is far far from good, OP and your body is telling you via your brain fog and general feelings of being unwell.

You say you only like grapes but I’m sorry to say that you don’t have to enjoy everything you eat. There are things your body needs to work well. Look up a calculator and work out your macro intake. Meal plan. There are easy ways to add veg, for example within your pasta sauce cutting up spinach into tiny bits is an easy and unnoticeable way. Change your chips to sweet potato chips. PM me if you’d like help.

ThisLittleKitty · 22/01/2018 21:08

I'm surprised you expect to lose weight by eating crisps and bacon??

Eliza9917 · 22/01/2018 21:08

Carbs probably don't agree with you. They don't me. It messes with your ghrelin & leptin receptors so you don't feel full plus can give you insulin resistance that makes your body hold on to fat.

You need to drink 2-3l water a day, have eggs for breakfast and protein & salad or veg for lunch & dinner and loads of good fats.

travailtotravel · 22/01/2018 21:08

Veggies, gallons of water and start a multi vit to give a vitamin boost while you start upping the veggies. Less carbs, the only while carbs I have are rice as that doesn't give a sugar rush.

AppleAndBlackberry · 22/01/2018 21:09

Personally I would wonder about gluten intolerance although I know other people will say that's a fad. I also think it would be good to aim for 5 a day and fewer carbs and take a multivitamin. I can't tell if you're eating enough, that could also be making you tired.

LizzieSiddal · 22/01/2018 21:09

Are you being serious OP? Sad

Eliza9917 · 22/01/2018 21:09

Don't eat grapes either, they produce a huge glucose spike after eating, have blueberries & strawberries. That's a good breakfast with fage total yoghurt as well.

Google the GI diet too.

Sure, your diet is pretty stodgy and a recipe for weight-gain and constipation, but you still need to go to your GP to rule out other causes of your health issues.

And it’s time to try all those fruits again that you don’t like. Of course we’d all rather eat sweet or salty carbs instead, but we keep trying healthy foods until we find ones we can bear. So we can live longer, and get the fibre we need to poo regularly!

SingaSong12 · 22/01/2018 21:10

Try a diet sheet for a few days including a work and non working day. Write down everything you eat and drink- try not to change what you normally eat or the picture will not be accurate to your real life.

Have a look at the food groups, calories (if you want) and portion sizes. Also have a look at the amount of exercise you do.

If you feel weak and have no energy, especially if it's new it is worth getting checked out by the GP, it could be iron deficiency. It might also flag any other deficiencies such as vitamin D and you can address these. (I don't mean instead of improving your diet.)

losingmymindiam · 22/01/2018 21:10

Also your diet is very high in salt.

YorkieDorkie · 22/01/2018 21:10

When you should be having at least 5 a day, and you're getting 0 you can't seriously be wondering what's wrong with your diet??!

PurpleTraitor · 22/01/2018 21:11

I don’t eat much fruit either. I have maybe an apple a week, some grapes, the occasional grapefruit. I like it, but think of it as pudding really, except in soft fruit season when I eat lots of strawberries and raspberries.

I really think you need to eat more vegetables, though. And nuts, seeds, pulses, legumes. In a take out at least half of what you listed above eat and replace with vegetable side dishes, mixed salads, and general tasty plant based items.

EggysMom · 22/01/2018 21:12

As well as looking at your diet (sounds similar to DH's diet, he doesn't do fruit or vegetables either!) go to your GP and ask for blood tests for iron and for thyroid activity.

Dermymc · 22/01/2018 21:13

Your diet is awful.

There barely any fresh food. It's all ready meals, breaded freezer stuff or bread itself.

You need more vegetables, fewer cars and ditch the high sugar breakfast.

If you are serious that is...

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 22/01/2018 21:13

So the only fruit you like are grapes? Have you tried every other fruit in the shop? Is it a taste thing or a texture?

Can you list all the veg you will eat? What about fish?

I think we need to look at what you do or will eat and drink, and try to build on those.

SaucyJack · 22/01/2018 21:14

Sprinkle a handful of rocket over your spaghetti instead of cheese.

Tasty, good for you, and goes wonderfully with tomato sauce.

EilaLila · 22/01/2018 21:14

I mean this kindly but no wonder you’re constipated on that diet. Also, have you tried floradix or spatone? It’s much more gentle on the GI tract. Being anaemic will make you feel totally wiped out, sadly.

Sheeeesh · 22/01/2018 21:14

You've just posted about wanting a colon cleanse too Hmm

Just eat fruit, veg, salad, water and hey presto!

Your diet is stodgy shite at present. Anyone would feel dreadful on that.

EatTheChocolateTeapot · 22/01/2018 21:15

Yes diet not ideal but I think you need to go the GP, it could be hypothyroidism which causes tiredness, constipation and weight gain (although it could be something else and anemia also causes tiredness).

Kitsharrington · 22/01/2018 21:16

All looks very beige. You need more greens, seeds, nuts, and fruit and veg of every colour. Like, loads and loads more.
