Supermarket bakery aisle

AIBU to say that Tesco's Cheese and Jalepeno bloomer is the top spot in the supermarket baker aisle, followed closely by Sainsbury's sea salt and rosemary focaccia 😍

halfwitpicker · 22/01/2018 21:38

It'll melt off you, dwangela Grin

carringtonm · 22/01/2018 21:41

Budgens French bread for me! Especially when it's warm 😍

LordSugarWillSeeYouNow · 22/01/2018 21:41

I just bought a tiger loaf (sliced) tonight from Tesco and couldn't stop sniffing it when I got it home so I had to eat some.

They were out of my favourite tiger rolls and I needed something "tigery" to satisfy my non pregnancy craving. Yum bloody yum.

SnowGoArea · 22/01/2018 21:41

Doilooklikeatourist Nope, Tesco cornbread is all miiiine Grin

bananagrabber · 22/01/2018 21:42

Just discovered tesco White Chocolate and Honeycomb cookies...

Theapplestretching · 22/01/2018 21:43

Used to work in supermarket bakeries as a student - coop, asda and Tesco.

Sadly I can confirm they all purchase part-frozen goods from the same commercial bakery. But each store has their own methods for baking stuff off. Coop used a more industrial oven with a manual timer and temperature settings whereas the others had auto ovens where you selected the product and it worked it all out for you. I think the Coop products tasted better as a result.

Sounds gorgeous, will never find out, dammit, f*ing hate Tesco, never shop there.
The Sainsbury’s near me sells “well fired bread”. It’s burnt bread. I say “sells”, the majority seems to end up Salvation Army donation box, but they do have it on the shelves.

halesie · 22/01/2018 21:53

So much to try here!

Would like to add the Waitrose cheese boule, amazing toasted with butter Grin

FizzyCherry · 22/01/2018 21:55

That Sainsbury’s focaccia though.......😍😍😍😍😍

Eeeeek2 · 22/01/2018 21:56

Co op beetroot and apple loaf

They also use to do a cranberry baguette at Xmas that was the perfect Brie sandwich bread.

TattyCat · 22/01/2018 21:56

Morrison's make the best bread, by far although I agree with pp that the cheese and jalapeno is better by Co-op than Tesco, although the Tesco one is a very close second.

LemonysSnicket · 22/01/2018 22:06

M&S fog and walnut loaf .

pontiouspilates · 22/01/2018 22:09

Morrison's cheese and jalapeño focaccia - the only reason I ever go to Morrison's. Divine!

BombsAway · 22/01/2018 22:10

If the supermarkets buy pre made stuff then why do they have huge quantities of yeast?

Toddlerteaplease · 22/01/2018 22:18

M&S do a Belgian chocolate loaf around Christmas. It's divine. ASDA once did s toffee apple bread years ago. Omg it was good of the Gods!

Toddlerteaplease · 22/01/2018 22:22

Oo Sainsbury's burnt crusty white loaf. Drool!

Turquoisetamborine · 22/01/2018 22:25

Ooh Waitrose almond croissants. Have to be almond ones.

wowfudge · 22/01/2018 23:43

Do they @BombsAway? I've only ever seen fresh yeast in Morrison's. The supermarkets prove and bake bread and bread rolls I think. It's probably frozen when they get it in, but Theapple can probably confirm. The smell of fresh bread entices customers to buy more food.

Pleased I could tell the Co-op's baking is better!

The bakery stuff is just like ready meals - there are a few suppliers supplying all the major supermarkets. You can which have the same supplier by the lines they stock. The recipes are varied to suit the different supermarkets and the price points they sell stuff at. One big company that supplies pizzas to supermarkets also makes pasta ready meals. Their cannelloni are made by extruding the pasta dough around the filling in one process. Clever, but not very authentic.

bridgetreilly · 22/01/2018 23:54

Tesco cheese and chutney cob. SO GOOD.

Dontknowwherethelineis · 23/01/2018 00:01

No way, they're my exact top two!

AlessandroVasectomi · 23/01/2018 00:12

Surprised that nobody has mentioned Waitrose wild cherry and chocolate boule. OMG - sheer temptation. We can scoff the lot in one sitting - and then feel very guilty🙁

pollywollydoodle · 23/01/2018 00:16

Co-op triangular rolls are the only reason I go there; the one with olives and the whole meal one covered with. seeds are divine 🤤😋

MerryMarigold · 23/01/2018 00:18

Morrisons spelt mix loaf is the best.

BombsAway · 23/01/2018 06:43

Yes, our local tesco has loads of yeast, if you want some you go ask at the bakery and they give you a wodge for free
