I realise this isn't and AIBU but I have four kids and a dog, DH is away and my bloody washing machine has broken down!

Can anyone recommend a large (at least 10kg) machine with a quick wash? I have to order ASAP, my wash basket is exploding.
To top it off the dog just rolled in fox poo, days like his make me want to go back to workConfused

Bosch Exxcel 8 VarioPerfect WAQ28461GB, it was a Which? Best Buy a few years ago and not particularly expensive. It has a 15 minute fast wash and a 1400rpm max spin. My previous machine had also been a Bosch which lasted for 17 years

IJustLostIt · 22/01/2018 18:06

Avoid BEKO and LG. I've had both and numerous visits from repair people.

They all told me that Bosch and Samsung are the best brands, though Samsung more expensive because they're usually 'prettier'.

CottonSock · 22/01/2018 18:07

Zanussi

trixymalixy · 22/01/2018 19:56

I couldn't get a repair man to come out to my LG. None would touch it with a barge pole. I had to get LG out at great expense.

ToadOfSadness · 22/01/2018 20:20

bosch brands are reliable, and their engineers are pleasant.. (don't blame the machine, it was user error)

Not any more. First two were good, reliable, mostly, aside from a leak in the last one. The one we have now didn't last 3 years before it stopped heating the water and now the drum is on the way out too.It is a Bosch Vario Perfect, handy features but not much use if it won't wash.

I am looking at Beko for the next one, if it isn't going to last long it would prefer it to be a cheaper one. Indesit also only lasted about 3 years.

ArkAtEee · 22/01/2018 20:27

I too have a Hotpoint Aquarius washer dryer and it's rubbish. It broke down one day (one day!!!) out of warranty and Hotpoint refused to help. AO intervened and they sent an engineer out, who fixed it for free. I will never buy another Hotpoint though. Thumbs up to AO customer service.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/01/2018 20:28

We have an Aqualtis and it's been fine; no issues and it's almost 3.

I think all brands probably have some 'Friday afternoon' machines go on sale, but that doesn't mean they're all bad!

We had a BEKO before this one which was OK, but I prefer the extra 2kg capacity in this one! (9 vs 11.)

BrimFire · 22/01/2018 20:29

I just wrote in Chat about my Bosch dying after 14 years. Looking to replace it.
Co op are doing free installation and removal of your old model on Bosch at moment and prices look good.

Surprised at these comments..Appliance engineer told me to get an LG Direct Drive as it has no belt so more reliable and easier /cheaper to repair?! Had mine for a year and it's got loads of programme options including turbo wash and very quiet, no issues so far. Got cheapest price and a 3 year warranty with John Lewis.

eddielizzard · 22/01/2018 20:46

love my miele. still going strong after 10 years and no problems at all.

derenstar · 22/01/2018 20:50

I read somewhere ages ago that Bosch machines are no longer made in Germany and therefore not as reliable as they used to be. Something about the Bosch-Siemens group wanting to compete on price with the cheaper brands. Have no idea whether this is true or even matters. To be on the safe side, we went with a Siemens model, figured it was midway in terms of price to the Miele and good reputation for build quality. Ours has given us zero trouble over the past 8 years.

I seriously believe that appliances these days have built in obsolescence, my parents used to swear by Hotpoint; I remember growing up with the ugly brown monstrosity still going strong long after I’d finished University. So when it finally gave out (after 23 years), they replaced it with another Hotpoint. It gave out just shy of 4 years I believe. They now have one of those Samsung eco bubble thingies, very flashy looking, no idea of its any good but my mum loves it.

GameChanger01 · 22/01/2018 20:51

Second Miele inherited one from previous owner and still going strong it's at least 10 years old and been through family with kids too!
If it does I'm buying a new one

Bubblysqueak · 22/01/2018 20:52

My Bosch washer drier is amazing. Dirty washing in clean dry washing out.
It also has a quick 1 hour wash and dry cycle which is useful.

kinkajoukid · 22/01/2018 21:03

Bit late to this, but just had to say that we bought a Zanussi ZWF01487W 10kg last August and think it is awesome!

So easy to use, flexible programs but not complicated at all.

Loads of temps at all wash sizes, and quick and intensive washes. It adjusts for smaller loads so not just for bedding etc. 20 min refresh, 30 min@30 degrees or pretty much 40@40 for small loads and will do med cotton washes in not much over an hour depending on the weight. I really can't rate it highly enough! And it is quiet.

Cost around £300 from the Co-op. Zanussi do have some similar models with slight differences at different manufacturers, but you can download the manuals or go to the Zanussi website to compare the differences.

Coop also have a good 5 yr extended warranty for about £65 that we bought because we will proably move a few times in the next years and I was concerned about it being lugged around, but it was still excellent value overall.

Oldraver · 22/01/2018 21:11

Miele..but get someone to fit it. It's an easy job I can and have done but they weigh (95kg) so much it took two of us to shift it and I damaged my arm trying to push it into place

AustrianSnow · 22/01/2018 21:16

Our LG has been good and takes loads...

gemtheboats · 22/01/2018 21:22

Another vote for Miele here. Not a flash one, and it's very, um, retro looking, but it's fantastic.

Bingbongband · 22/01/2018 21:23

Samsung eco bubble. Not sure about the bubbles being more than a marketing gimmick but it's a solid machine.
Second the AO recommendation. We've used them lots and are always very happy with the service and when needed, dealing with issues.

Bunnyjo · 22/01/2018 21:26

Another vote for Miele, well worth the money.

Doublechocolatetiffin · 22/01/2018 21:29

Going against the grain here, but don’t like my Miele much - it always knots things up! I bet it’ll last forever which means I’ll have to wait forever to replace it with something that doesn’t!

SaltySeaBird · 22/01/2018 21:31

DO NOT BUY LG IF YOU HAVE YOUNG CHILDREN!!!!

I brought a very expensive washer dryer and it plays a tune when it finishes. It is a toddler magnet. However the child lock is not fit for purpose as he can just turn it off and on again. This cancels the cycle at whatever point it’s at and you have to restart it. It caused problems with an unbalanced drum when it was full of water. I contacted LG and they said keep the child away from the machine - I have an open plan kitchen / diner / family room. They then said try taping something over the power button. On an expensive machine chosen because it had a child lock.

Apparently it’s a safety issue for it to lock everything including the power button. It wasn’t on my old Hotpoint.

I can only do washing when he is in bed, which means I can’t do it in the morning and hang it out (there may be a timer function I’ve yet to discover so I can set it early hours ready for when I get up but I just want to be able to put washing on when I want to).

bumpertobumper · 22/01/2018 21:31

If you haven't ordered one already, when in a hurry local independent retailers are best.
Mine did same day delivery and install, at a time that suited me! And price matched ao once fitting etc accounted for.
I went into the shop at 10am, had a load on by 3 Grin
Also they do repairs and know which ones break most... Steer clear of new zanussi.
I like my Samsung.

Luckymummy22 · 22/01/2018 21:34

Mmmmmmm has a Bosch machine for 5 years or so. Would have expected it to last longer.
Got another one and had 2 engineer visits within a few weeks. Can’t say I was impressed with Bosch customer service at all!!
So probably will stay away from Bosch the next time.

Proseccoagain · 22/01/2018 21:37

Have had my Zanussi for years.
