It's dds friends birthday tomorrow and she has just decided she wants to take her in some chocolate as a gift, only dd has sen and isn't very observant to what she normally has!

I know you have to stay away from certain foods and about Halal but we aren't sure what is okay and what is not.

Are things like normal dairy milk bar or those boxes of little dairy milk chocolates OK?
Can you suggest anything else please that will be OK that I can buy on a Sunday locally please.

Thank you!

She already mentioned her child had SEN and wasn't observant of what friend normally had or liked

Thequeenisdeadboys · 21/01/2018 22:59

I don't disagree with muslim beliefs at all. You appear to getting a little 'heavy' peabody. I disagree with animal slaughter in all forms. And I'm sure there will be many that agree with that.

Fekko · 21/01/2018 23:01

Oh, do remove that stick from your bahookie. Or at very least read the thread.

Diaryofapeabody · 21/01/2018 23:08

I still think there are issues here regarding deference to Muslim sensibilities.
And I have not yet seen an argument refuting that.
And the arguments around animal suffering are the most specious. I look forward to a Muslim argument deploring non Muslim slaughter practices.

Or dog keeping.

Diaryofapeabody · 21/01/2018 23:12

If your last is for me Fekko, please do explain yourself a bit more.
Otherwise you risk looking like a defensive loon.

The OP sounds very silly.

Weedsnseeds1 · 21/01/2018 23:13

flipflop I completely understand your point of view. Thanks is given to the animal for its "sacrifice" ( albeit involuntary).
You don't eat meat and I respect that, I do, but visit abattoirs several times a year as part of my job and know what I feel comfortable with and what I don't.
Argentinian beef for example ( and I stress I am only speaking about what I have seen, I can't speak for the industry as a whole there), I don't like the stun method and slaughter of pregnant cattle is permitted ( unlike most countries).I don't eat it. UK beef I will eat.

Diaryofapeabody · 21/01/2018 23:20

Weeds seeds . Still no response from a Muslim viewpoint.
Your post didn’t make much sense to be honest,
I think many feel uncomfortable with animal slaughter.

The deference tomyslim belief however is a different argument and one unaddressed on this thread.

Diaryofapeabody · 21/01/2018 23:21

To Muslim belief systems that should have read

Diaryofapeabody · 22/01/2018 00:23

Oh and Fuzzywuzzy

Have you ever considered the possible offence or irony in your choice of user name?

Weedsnseeds1 · 22/01/2018 00:28

I'm a food technologist that visits various food factories, including abattoirs diaryofapeabody. As part of my work I occasionally conduct audits against a halal standard, so despite not being Muslim, I have experience in the industry.
Hope that clarifies my mystifying comments for you?

Diaryofapeabody · 22/01/2018 00:38

It does Weedsnseeds. I’m just querying the lack of clarification / justification from the Muslim / halal stance.
I don’t say I agree with yours bye the way.
I’m just here waving my arms in a kind of helpless stance saying things don’t smell right, but enough people don’t seem to mind a whole load of suffering do they.
Until it gets too close for comfort.

And some stances smack a lot of apoeasement.

And we all know how that went down.

Goodnight to you all.

Beeinthecity · 22/01/2018 10:50

Thanks @Talkingfrog will definitely stock up on some sort of go to item. It's just due to her sen and struggling socially she's never really had friends to buy for so it caught me off guard.

Beeinthecity · 22/01/2018 11:00

Peabody as already mentioned my kid has special needs, she announced she would like to give her friend something at 4.15pm on a Sunday evening after most supermarkets and shops are closed so reliant on local corner shops. Due to her sen she hasn't really had friends properly before. She's couldn't tell me what treats the child normally had due to her sen.

My options of where I could buy something was limited. I wasn't specifically looking for an halal product I was looking for something that I could give a child which she could eat.

Not sure how buying a vegetarian suitable tub of chocolates as suggested above is supporting halal practices. Confused

As I said I would rather look silly on here than give a child something as a treat they cannot eat.

How thoughtful of you OP, as long as the chocolate doesn't have gelatin (usually number e471) then it's mostly fine! A box of cadburys should be OK, Ferrero rocher is pretty lovely and might go down a treat too!! (now I'm going to have to go get some!)

StatelessPrincess · 22/01/2018 11:22

Diaryofapeabody I'm not sure what you're upset about? Assuming you are in the U.K then I believe the majority of halal meat here comes from animals that have been slaughtered in the same way as non halal. Unstunned meat can be tricky to find. And I've no idea why you mentioned dog keeping. You just sound really ignorant.

Weedsnseeds1 · 22/01/2018 14:17

Stateless princess dogs are viewed as an " unclean* animal so some Muslims don't keep them in the house ( OK outside as guard dogs etc.). Not so much in the UK, but in other Muslim countries.
Cats are fine though, Mohammed kept cats!

MrPan · 22/01/2018 14:24

Weeds, you'll probably find Stateless is fully aware of cultural approaches to the keeping of dogs.

Peabody does appear to be upset, as no-one is feeling the need to justify themselvers to her/him. Which appears to be rather annoying to her/him.

StatelessPrincess · 22/01/2018 16:19

I'm Muslim Weeds I was asking the question of peabody because I can't see the relevance of some Muslims views on dogs in relation to halal slaughter. Fwiw I've generally found North and West African Muslims to be much more positive about dogs than others, due to the majority being Maliki followers. It's true that the majority view them as unclean but that still leaves millions of us who don't. I have two dogs and get a lot of grief about it here in the U.K.

Weedsnseeds1 · 22/01/2018 17:20

Sorry stateless princess I thought you were just asking about the dog thing, didn't realise you already knew.
Yes, dogs and slaughter are unrelated!
I did see dogs in Morocco as pets, come to think of it, many more cats thoughSmile
Peabody seems to have a particular agenda, which I dislike as I have friends from many religions. If you want to object to non-stun slaughter, that's fine, but to make out halal slaughter in the UK is any different to conventional ( apart from a few small abattoirs that specialise) is just argument for arguments sake.

misspetite · 22/01/2018 17:30

There is nothing wrong with Muslims keeping dogs- it's just some crazy talk by fanatics.
By the way remember whatever is Kosher to Jews is Halal to Muslims. (food).
