I know this isn’t an AIBU but I thought I would get more responses here.
I had 4 hours last night and feel absolutely awful today. On average i’d say I get about 6 hours but would love 8

About 9, sometimes 7/8 if it’s the weekend and I go to bed late. I have a 13 mo DS so I count myself very lucky!

hmmwhatatodo · 21/01/2018 08:12

I usually wake up with a sore head and often a sore neck (plus all the other aches and pains). I think I wake at least twice a night either due to myself or a neighbour. Sometimes I am properly awake and can take around 3 hours to get back to sleep, meaning I might have an hour till my alarm goes off. My dream would be to sleep at 10.45 and wake at 7 on a week day. I hate dragging myself out of bed.

MargaretCavendish · 21/01/2018 08:16

According to my Fitbit I averaged 5.5 hours this week, although I slept for a lovely 7.5 last night. I don't have children, so although I find that work/commute makes it hard to get enough sleep in the week, I can have make up for it with longer sleeps at the weekend.

Salene · 21/01/2018 08:22

For last 4 years about 3-4 hours a night broken thanks to a non sleeping toddler

WhooooAmI24601 · 21/01/2018 08:25

Generally I get about 6 or 7 and can cope fine on that.

At the minute I'm getting at least 10 hours a night and am still bone tired. I went to bed at 9pm last night, have just got up and could easily do another few hours but DS2 has football (in the snow). I think I need my vitamin levels checked as it's unusual for me to sleep so much.

Oddsocksforeveryone · 21/01/2018 08:25

2-4 hrs broken sleep a night since dc4 was born 3 months ago. 4-6 broken hours for the 8 previous years.
I can count on my hands the number of times I've slept 4hr straight since 2009.
I would love more sleep, physically and mentally I'm almost at breaking point.
Strangely though most of the time if I do manage to fall into a deep sleep I have nightmares.
I often daydream about travelling back to my early 20's and spending all my wasted pub hours sleeping.

confusedandemployed · 21/01/2018 08:26

8-9 hours but never straight through, I wake several times. DD never wakes though so I can't blame her.

stickytoffeevodka · 21/01/2018 08:27

8 hours on average.

Not much last night though - was up at half five with horrific period pain that only decided to ease off when it was time to get up for work Hmm

iatethepies · 21/01/2018 08:30

I am in bed for around 6 hours. Ds is 6 month and wakes 2 or 3 times per night and wants to be up the day 5/6am. I'm knackered and could easily sleep 12 hours if ds would allow dp to settle him.

Fatbergs · 21/01/2018 08:40

Just want to say to you knackered mums......I had 2 terrible sleepers, my eldest never slept through EVER til he was 3. We were so sleep deprived for about 7 years. We now get up at 8am on a weekend but are still in the habit of going to bed earlier so are clocking up loads of sleep (still look haggard mind you!). At 7 and 4 my kids are able to entertain themselves quietly - IT DOES GET BETTER. You don't think it ever will when you're in the fog though....

Tmgc123 · 21/01/2018 08:42

Probably about 4 atm for the last few weeks, broken up into 40minutes segments. Sleep regression yay!

donajimena · 21/01/2018 08:42

Between 5 - 6 usually nearer 6. I don't drink alcohol anymore so I thought I would be getting more. Around 7 would do me

Taffeta · 21/01/2018 08:44

I have a FitBit that tracks my sleep, I love it! So interesting.

My average is around 7 hrs 15 mins. Less than 7 hours I feel shit.

bananamonkey · 21/01/2018 08:46

7 hours of broken sleep, my 16 month old finally started sleeping just before Christmas but I’m so used to constantly waking I’m up 2-3 times a night

MissCalamity · 21/01/2018 08:48

Between 6-8 hours, normally disturbed though, if it's not needing the loo it's the kids playing up.
DC2 has developed a bad cough overnight so that was fun. I need a nap, bit then would really struggle to drift off later on tonight.
I always remember the time pre DC, I was quite poorly & had 14 hours uninterrupted sleep my bladder was strong then! That will never ever happen again! Grin

Jenala · 21/01/2018 08:49

I don't think I've slept more than 4 hours in a row for 3 years. I've had a few nights away but still always wake up.

I always find these threads interesting though as people talk about getting what seems a lovely amount of sleep to me but feeling dreadful. I think I feel fine but maybe I'd suddenly feel amazing if I slept more.

I go to bed early to maximise sleep though. So I'm probably actually in bed 9.30pm - 6.30am and asleep for around 6 hours total with several wake ups. I think it averages about 1.5 - 2 hour blocks.

INeedToEat · 21/01/2018 08:58

On a good night 9 hours. I tend to go to bed at 10pm and I'm up at 7am, same for weekend. Occasionally I have trouble sleeping (like last night when I couldn't sleep till 2am) but will still get up at 7am and not sleep in as I wouldn't be able to sleep by 10pm tonight.

Kids are adult and late teen.

Purplerain101 · 21/01/2018 09:01

For those having less than 6 hours, what are the reasons for it? Choice? Insomnia? Kids? Being disturbed by partner? Shift work? Illness? Menopause? Pregnancy? Anxiety?
I think mine is more to do with anxiety and also suffering badly with Chronic IBS which can make me feel very unwell

OP posts:
BitOfFun · 21/01/2018 09:09

Choice? Hahahaaa. No.

swingofthings · 21/01/2018 09:12

Fitbit wearer too. I average between 7 and 8h but get very little deep sleep 30 minutes in the last two nights am lucky to get one hour once every couple of weeks. I wake every morning feeling like I've had no sleep!

howthelightgetsin · 21/01/2018 09:14

I’m probably in bed sleeping for about 9 hours a night but my son (co-sleeps) wakes up about 5-10x a night so it is very disturbed, hard to know how much sleep I actually get. Maybe 7 hours out of the 9 I’m asleep. Not really ever more than 2 hours in a row though.

KateTheShrew · 21/01/2018 09:15

I average between 5 and 7 hours a night, always interrupted (thanks, 10 month old DS Hmm) Getting more sleep has become something of an obsession...

Purplerain101 · 21/01/2018 09:18

@bitoffun haha my dad chooses to have 5 hours sleep a night as he likes to go to bed late and wake up really early. Clearly insane!

Taffeta · 21/01/2018 09:20

The FitBit tracks the type of sleep you have too - broken down by awake (average 20 times a night Shock ) , R.E.M., light sleep and deep sleep. It says decent chunks of deep sleep ( ie say an hour chunk at the same time ) make you feel extra refreshed when you wake.

My deep sleep is usually less than 2 hours, but when I’ve had say at least 45 min chunk together I do wake feeling more refreshed.

So can have overall say 30 mins less sleep but if had a decent chunk of deep sleep still feel more refreshed.

So it’s quality of sleep too that’s good for me.

GinUnicorn · 21/01/2018 09:25

Between 2-5 hours at the moment broken sleep due to a baby. Tired and grumpy today
