I just love going away and have really loved most places. One place in particular really Underwhelmed me...Gibraltar...just like Britain in the sun! I'm sure it has so much to offer, but I couldn't wait to cross the border back to Spain!

Amazed at Milan and Rome and Florence being mentioned so much - they are all stunning, so much to do. I don't speak a word of Italian but everyone is so friendly but in a much more honest way than many places as in, if they see you looking lost, they'll always come over to help.

I adore Paris but agree it does feel unsafe - still willing to trade that for what you get though!

Amsterdam is vile - there's not much to do anyway, but the stag dos and 'hilarious' sex industry tourists make it hideous.

MsHarry · 21/01/2018 10:03

having a complete turnaround and thinking Tokyo / Japan instead!

Lots of negatives for Japan on here too.

MsHarry · 21/01/2018 10:04

I enjoyed the Eden Project domes(was a cool damp day in Cornwall and the heat inside them was welcome) but everything else there is a bit dull and v expensive.

AHungryMum · 21/01/2018 10:04

Stunned to see Barcelona on here so much (all the Gaudi stuff! How could you not love it?!), and Rome, and Budapest. Budapest is beautiful and has a fascinating history! There's loads of interesting buildings and the ruin bars are cool...

Paris - I loved it personally. I get that some people find Parisiennes rude, and speaking their language doesn't actually help that much, when I went I was visiting my best mate who lived there at the time. She always spoke French but because she had a slight English accent they'd immediately speak English to her, even when their English was worse than her French. It annoyed her considerably!

Iceland I loved, but I get why it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. There was snow on a lot of the ground when we went there which made it beautiful, but the endless lava fields without snow on could seem a bit bleak. We kind of liked the wildness of it though, and if you kept driving as far as Skaftafell National Park the scenery became stunning (and apparently it's very green there in summer!)

LA what a dump.

CTC6664 · 21/01/2018 10:07

Cairo- shithole

LaurieMarlow · 21/01/2018 10:10

New York. Didn’t find any nice places for food (and we trip advisor checked before we ate)

Really? Confused. What were you looking for? Because NY is just chock full of great places to eat.

MsHarry · 21/01/2018 10:10

Had a lovely day cycling through the New Forest with our DC on the back, weaving though ponies and stopping for a cream tea along the way.

Yvest · 21/01/2018 10:11

How on earth can there be nowhere good for food in New York? Just not possible. There are thousands of amazing places from cheap to need. Second mortgage.

Taffeta · 21/01/2018 10:15

Cairo is probably my favourite place in the world!

Been there 8 times, mix of work and leisure

littlebillie · 21/01/2018 10:15

There is always something amazing to see in a big city and I've been to many as discussed her. They all have their dark dirty places and most have a gem of beauty.

The only cities I felt fear were LA (all the time) and Prague (but this was in the wee hours in the morning) I believe LA now has over 10k living in shanty towns in the middle of the city. It it was bad 20 years ago I can't imagine what it is like now.

JustDanceAddict · 21/01/2018 10:15

I’m
Wondering if I’ve been to the same places as some of you lot! It has been a while since I went to SF - 25 years - but I loved it!
I love Paris, Barca was cool - we went in Dec and had great weather, Berlin was fascinating (even though it rained for 3 days solid!). Of course these are all cities and they have their bad areas and are a bit gritty but that’s what city life is.
Dublin - expensive but great city too. Get out of the main tourist bits!
In UK I agree with the person who said Great Yarmouth was ashithole - I went 16 yrs ago and thought it would be a quaint seaside place (ha!).
Also went to Stonehenge 40 years ago when you went right up to the stones. No desire to fall in a tourist trap.

LizzieSiddal · 21/01/2018 10:16

The New Forest does indeed have trees Grin. Lots of them! They also have wild horses, sheep, cattle, pigs and lots of deer. It’s a beautiful place.

Tapandgo · 21/01/2018 10:17

had no idea Franco was buried there and was horrified I was there. Shame on Madrid.

MsHarry · 21/01/2018 10:18

I think we are spoilt on the British Isles as there is so much beauty and culture here. Some people have been around the world before exploring Britain. I get the weather issues but when it's good, it fabulous.

Loved sitting on the grass with a picnic in the sun amongst the ruins of Urquhart Castle by Loch Ness in October. It was WARM!

Shell Bay/Studland beach on a good day rivals The Caribbean.

Enjoying a fresh crab from Port Isaac on a quiet day(before Doc Martin). Stunning.

Love North Cornwall, Dorset, Scottish Highlands.

MsHarry · 21/01/2018 10:19

Forget Stonehenge, they have many standing stones in Brittany near Carnac and gorgeous coves and empty beaches too with free parking!

GlitterUnicornsAndAllThatJazz · 21/01/2018 10:22

Another vote for Dublin - pretty staid for a capital, shocking transport, thought I might as well have saved 50% on my holiday and just gone to Liverpool.

Lyon - apparently France's 2nd or 3rd biggest city - but a part from one tiny area, the place seemed soulless and really quiet at night.

PippaSqueaks · 21/01/2018 10:24

If you go to Ireland then don't go for Dublin as you'll be doing yourself and the country a huge disservice. Go do the amazingly beautiful Wild Atlantic Way drive instead and spend a few days in Galway city. It's small but there's so much more character and charm there.

Ireland has come along in leaps and bounds trying to cater to tourists in the last few years and even the food is pretty good now. The west coast is truly beautiful and there is soooo much to see.

marmiteandcheeseoncrumpetspls · 21/01/2018 10:25

Salcombe. Very disappointed, thought we must be in the wrong place!

KimchiLaLa · 21/01/2018 10:26

Oman

toriatoriatoria · 21/01/2018 10:27

Vienna.

TakeMeToTheUSA · 21/01/2018 10:28

LA - I was expecting glamour, prestine beaches, sunshine streets and beautiful people. Instead we found ourselves trying to avoid drug dealers, prostitues and homeless people. The highlight for me was going to south central to see Watts towers and the black art gallery. Everyone told us to stay away from south central as we wouldn't make it out alive but it was the one bit of culture I saw in LA and the people were lovely.

Also, Stonehenge. I mean, the history is interesting but the site itself ... not really worth more than a 10 minute look.

myusernamewastaken · 21/01/2018 10:29

London and Budapest....

MsHarry · 21/01/2018 10:30

Don't know what people expect from Stonehenge. No excuses with google. do people expect a theme park?
