To expect Tesco's to question my order?

This may make you laugh .

I started a tesco order online and booked a delivery slot and checked out so as not to lose the slot.
Had just put 2 avacados in the basket and got distracted by the children.
Went back to it later and forgot I had started the other order and proceeded to place another order for a few days time.

A couple of days later saw a Tesco van pull up outside and thought they are delivering the wrong day.
Up the path comes the Tesco man with 2 avacados in his hand for which I was charged £5.99 delivery.

How embarassed I felt,he must have thought she has more money than sense.
I did'nt question it ,just took them from him and quickly shut the door.

I would have thought as I am a regular customer Tesco would have rung me to question this.

Has anyone else done this or is it just me?

I think that I have done something similar deliberately (though admittedly it might have been for something more "essential" such as bread, milk or nappies).

LynetteScavo · 27/04/2007 14:16

Sainsbury's don't deliver orders under £25, so I'm really suprised at this but, I can't help laughing!

ekra · 27/04/2007 14:21

Sorry - that is funny.

SoupDragon · 27/04/2007 14:22

Who was it ordered 6 bottles of expensive wine to reserve their Ocado slot and forgot to replace them with their proper list?

Tutter · 27/04/2007 14:22

i did the same thing on wednesday

but instead of 2 avocados it was 2 bottles of champagne (waitrose need you to spend min £40)

harrrumph - not ideal when you've just come back from holiday and your fridge is empty

(and you're pg so can't drink it anyway)

Tutter · 27/04/2007 14:23

er, soupy, you may be thinking of me

(see below)

this is the second time i've done it too

DaisyMOO · 27/04/2007 14:24

Oh no! Thing is though that some people do just have tiny orders - I was chatting to our delivery man and he said some people literally do just order a couple of things because they can't be bothered to go to the shops

I wonder if you'd refused to accept the order whether they'd have refunded you?

LazyLineThreadKiller · 27/04/2007 14:25

I would have tried to keep a straight face and pretend that I hadn't ordered them.

Cloudhopper · 27/04/2007 14:25

sunflowervalley, I just have to thank you for sharing this. I haven't laughed so much in years.

The vision of the Tesco man coming up your driveway with two avocados to ring on the doorbell.

The person at the depot who packed the order.

THe idea that someone would be so desperate for two avocados that they would pay 5.99 delivery charge.

You just couldn't make it up

Last year when I was really ill I placed a smaller than usual order, and when the man (colin) delivered it he said "It's a lot less bags than you usually get Mrs Saltire, have we left some on the van, or has some been missed out". So sometimes they do notice, but that is funny, sorry

tortoiseSHELL · 27/04/2007 14:27

Oh I really am laughing my head off! That is a priceless thing to happen - can just imagine the Tesco man ringing the doorbell and handing you 2 avocados!

saltire · 27/04/2007 14:27

However I don't think Tesco give a hoot about their customers, otherwise they would give us online shoppers more offers, they would send me extra points codes I could use online, rather than vouchers I need to go into a store to use.

JonesTheSteam · 27/04/2007 14:27

Hilarious!!!

Cloudhopper · 27/04/2007 14:29

On a serious note, I would phone them and explain the error. You never know, they might knock something off the delivery charge.

southeastastra · 27/04/2007 14:29

hahah! thanks for the laugh! poor you paying that much for two avocados though

Lucycat · 27/04/2007 14:29

saltire - I thought all their vouchers could be used online? or is that just the 'money' ones.
I seem to remember opting for onlne vouchers though, can you go online and change your options?

lemonaid · 27/04/2007 14:31
heiferCROCloather · 27/04/2007 14:31

done that before myself, with 1 load of bread..

Most expensive load I have ever bought...

saltire · 27/04/2007 14:31

Lucy, the points one (that we can use for off our shopping or for deals) can be used online, but last time round I got 2 double points vouchers, plus 4 with extra points for buying yoghurts or whatever. I could only use them instore though

powder28 · 27/04/2007 14:40

Ha ha

That's the kind of thing I would do

Lucycat · 27/04/2007 14:42

buggers

phone 'em and shout.

slowreader · 27/04/2007 14:45

I did exactly the same last week, only it was bread, notavocardos. So two orders arrived + two delivery fees. I rang Tescos and pointed out the daftness of this and had one fee credited back as a 'good will gesture'.

katzg · 27/04/2007 14:49

glad there is no one else in my office!! rofl

obimomkanobi · 27/04/2007 14:50

I'm sorry, but I am sniggering here too.

The only Tesco problem that I have ever had was with potatoes. I ordered what I thought was 1kg of new potatoes. When I unpacked my shopping I pulled out a bag with one tiny little new potato in it.

I mean, what could anyone do with one tiny potato?
