To expect Tesco's to question my order?

This may make you laugh .

I started a tesco order online and booked a delivery slot and checked out so as not to lose the slot.
Had just put 2 avacados in the basket and got distracted by the children.
Went back to it later and forgot I had started the other order and proceeded to place another order for a few days time.

A couple of days later saw a Tesco van pull up outside and thought they are delivering the wrong day.
Up the path comes the Tesco man with 2 avacados in his hand for which I was charged £5.99 delivery.

How embarassed I felt,he must have thought she has more money than sense.
I did'nt question it ,just took them from him and quickly shut the door.

I would have thought as I am a regular customer Tesco would have rung me to question this.

Has anyone else done this or is it just me?

Erm, I've done the "expensive bottle of champagne to secure my Ocado order" thing as well - went on and ordered the rest of the stuff but forgot to cancel the champagne.

but

Snowi · 27/04/2007 14:54

That is hilarious!!!
Tesco customer service is apalling though

Cloudhopper · 27/04/2007 14:55

obimomkanobi, that is hilarious.

Job advert for pickers at the Tesco depot:

"Anyone with common sense need not apply"

MrsSpoon · 27/04/2007 15:01

I'm sorry but ...

ROFL!!!

sunflowervalley · 27/04/2007 15:03

Wow ,just came back to this, feel a bit better that I'm not the only one

I never told DH as I'm not sure he would have seen the funny side.

Love the idea of all the champange arriving .
I have done that also, put expensive things in just to secure the delivery slot.
Although remembered that order luckily.

We ordered a 200grm bar of chocolate once - they didn't have one so instead of sending 2x100 bars, they sent 1 100grm bar instead as a 'substitute'.

I'm still trying to work out the logic of that one. Maybe they thought that I was being greedy and they'd better cut me down .

UnquietDad · 27/04/2007 15:05

Our Tesco man was huffing and harrumphing because he had been delivering to students all night. I must say, I had some sympathy. Bloody lazy students who can't be arsed to go to Tesco when it is OVER THE FECKING ROAD from where they live.

maisemor · 27/04/2007 15:14

I am sorry, but thank you so much for the best laugh I have had all day. I don't think I will be able to go to Tesco myself tonight, look at the avocados and not think of you standing with a pussled look on your face and 2 avocados.

A woman in my office has 4 children and she wanted to order 2 kgs of apples, but managed to order 20kgs. However Tesco phoned her up and checked if that was indeed was she wanted. That was when they first started doing deliveries though.

Cloudhopper · 27/04/2007 15:16

One of the great fun things about online delivery is when you get a quantity wrong and end up with a fridge full of carrots. NOt that I have ever done that of course

HonorMatopoeia · 27/04/2007 15:20

Oh, sunflower - my poor pg body can't take the laughing!!! Have to run to the bathroom.......NOW!!!
(Bless you, This will be retold at the mn meet up tonight!)

sunflowervalley · 27/04/2007 15:27

Glad I have made you all laugh

On the positive front for tesco's for a change my niece's friend unpacked her order and reliied it was'nt hers.
She rang them and they said she could keep it and they would deliver her order next day!!

Ocado once delivered 8 packets of fishfingers to me (32 in packet)! Don't know what I did but I had to give them all but 32 away. DH looked at me in dispair..{blush]

MrsSpoon · 27/04/2007 15:59

I have in the past ordered what I thought was six individual apples and ended up with six prepacked bags of apples, we had crumble several times that week.

fizzbuzz · 27/04/2007 16:26

I,ve just received 9 packets of the same biscuit, but have no idea at all how this happened, as there was a BOGOF, and I only ordered 2.

Also colleague at work ordered what she thought was 6 bananas, was delivered 6kgs. She bought the excess into work....there was hundreds of them!

fizzbuzz · 27/04/2007 16:27

There were.....

unknownrebelbang · 27/04/2007 16:28

Two avacados beats my 15 boxes of mincepies.....

DumbledoresGirl · 27/04/2007 16:29

Sorry, I have to laugh at that too.

I hope a certain Mner won't mind me telling you this, but someone I am friends with has twice accidentally over ordered yoghurts, and ended up having something in the region of 40 plus yoghurts sitting in her fridge!

saltire · 27/04/2007 17:20

I once neded up with 70 bananas. I ordered 7 LOOSE bananas, and they sent me 7 bags each containing 10. I called them up and they refunded me the cost, and told me to keep the 'nanas. So I went round all the neighbours handing them out.
Their subsitutions ar ejust daft though. i ordered DH a bottle of red wine, an italian one he likes which costs about £3.50 a bottle. it was out of stock so they sent a bottle of white wine which cost £8.99 instead.

unknownrebelbang · 27/04/2007 18:17

I did once order one apple and one banana too,(not on their own though) using favourites, not realising I had to amend the amount.

Stopped getting substitutions now, I'd rather do without.

NotQuiteCockney · 27/04/2007 18:28

Yes, Ocado often subsitute 2x100g bags of something with 2x400g bags of something completely different.

That being said, I haven't had any substitutions for quite a while now.

stripeymum · 27/04/2007 18:43

Thank you for brightening my day sunflower. Was feeling very fed up, but now You can refuse any food you ordered online, even if it isn't a substitution and they have to take it back and refund you, some catalogue shopping law applies apparently. But guess you'd then have pais £5.99 to see the delivery driver.

LynetteScavo · 27/04/2007 20:31

I've just remembered my friend once had a duplicate order, and two of everything was delivered. Taught her to bash away at the keypad!

GeeGee2 · 27/04/2007 21:08

Still have about 70 tins of beans in my cupboard. My husband didn't realise that the were not individual tins but multipacks of 12.
