New nanny is 35 minutes late

Got in touch with a new nanny this week through an agency and we arranged to meet today to see if she was suitable for the role.
She is now 35 minutes late and has not been in contact. Obviously I don't want to rant and rage because I don't know her circumstances and I'm trying to be understanding. But 35 minutes late really? Is that acceptable or aibu???
My twins were excited to meet her too. It is snowing but not sticking, has this influenced her decision? But surely she'd contact me???

I think it might be an excuse too. Dont think she wants the job. Shame. Never mind.

I think OP was right to be concerned - although we all thought she was in all liklihood being flaky, you never know.

I would rule her out now and tell her and the agency that you are not impressed by the failure to make contact with yourself or agency - it's really not that difficult and if you really want a job, you manage to make that contact.

Onwards...

Yup, if she's making lame excuses now then she'll let you down for sure in the future.

I’ve had this more than once!! She was probably on a big night out last night. Don’t give her a second chance - it won’t get better - I speak from bitter experience!

In around 1991 I was going by train to a nanny interview. I didn't realise that every train didn't stop at every station so had to get off and walk back. I was half an hour late for the interview. Couldn't let her know as no mobiles then. I later found out that she has booked another nanny to interview half an hour after my time. That nanny hadn't turned up, the mother believed my tale and offered me the job after about half an hour. These days, no excuse to not call with mobiles etc.

You were a bit over invested in her. After an hour I would have thought oh well, Neeext.

Iloveanimals · 20/01/2018 21:46

I just wanted to make sure she hadn't had an accident and was OK

"Over invested"? This is the OP's time that the Nanny is wasting. I'd be more than over- invested, I'd be fuming!

Good luck in your search.

blueshoes · 20/01/2018 22:37

The only reason she called with her bullshit lie excuse is because the agency called her after you did. She realised that the agency would realise her no-show and blacklist her and therefore decided to pick up the phone to you.

I doubt she was ever going to call you otherwise.

All the best in your search. Lucky escape.

Maybe overinvested is too harsh a word. Aeroflot does have a point. There are so many timewasters out there it is best to not get too excited about any candidate until they have actually turned up on time on their first day of work.

I would call her a prospective nanny at this point, not a new nanny.
