To think the boots 70% sale is total greed?

Llcoolj33 · 20/01/2018 10:06

My boots had 50% off for 3 weeks.
Nobody touched it hardly, ailes were empty.
Yesterday 8am ..50 people outside waiting to get in.
Then shelves empty by 9.30 am
People grabbing and pushing.
Clearing the shelves with their arms.
Buying 7 of the same thing.
Greed?
You weren’t bothered at 50% !!

**Some lucky people are getting old make up and toiletries for Christmas next year!

A lot of these cheap products really only have an 12-18 month shelf life before they start splitting and deteriorating.**

There was an M&S shop assistant knocked out by frenzied sale shoppers about a year ago. The store has now closed.

tiredbum · 20/01/2018 13:49

You moan, yet you were one of 50 waiting in line because of the extra money off? You just sound cranky because you got nothing.

People do get greedy & buy stuff they don't need when it's such a "bargain" but sadly it's almost human nature now a days.

whichwayisout · 20/01/2018 13:54

Maybe they put these things away for Christmas gifts.

RJnomore1 · 20/01/2018 13:56

This behaviour has gone on for generations. I'm 41 and when I was small (think before starting school) I actually got trampled at the coop sale . My mum was furious but she's taken her eye off me to grab some reduced towels or something and the swell knocked me over! Mostly venerable older ladies in their nice hats but the behaviours I witnessed that day were unreal - pulling fights over items etc.

I mostly shop online 😬

MikeUniformMike · 20/01/2018 13:57

I've seen it at yellow sticker time at the supermarket. People with trolleys piled high with very cheap stuff. I've often wondered what they do with it.

I really don't like receiving gift sets as a present. I would probably not mind a No 7 one or Body Shop one. I did look in Boots if there was anything I fancied when they were half price but nothing took my fancy.

gamerwidow · 20/01/2018 13:59

Lweji well yes but most of us manage to overcome our animal instincts most of the time. I’m assuming you don’t shit on the floor and wander round naked everywhere? Desperate competition for food if you are starving I can understand, desperate competition for crappy toiletries not so much....

woodhill · 20/01/2018 14:01

I remember this used to happen in M&S before online shopping and there were quality clothes

MysteriousSheep · 20/01/2018 14:04

Have never been to one of these frenzied sales, but must admit part of me thinks it sounds quite fun! All normal decency and politeness out of the window! Ditto looting and riots!!!
However I don’t need more stuff..

Jassmells · 20/01/2018 14:06

What town is this? Who on earth queues for a Boots sale? Are there no other shops?!

londonrach · 20/01/2018 14:07

Its over priced in boots even at 70 percent so cant see it being greedy.

Amanduh · 20/01/2018 14:09

I went to the boots 70% yesterday 😂 everyone was very civilised though, it was busy and there was a lot of rushing around but nobody was rude or mental. I got Umberto Giannini hair sets, Real Techniques brushes, a soap and glory set, lovely Sanctuary spa bits, Ted Baker toiletries and makeup bag, and champneys stuff for DH. Two outfits for DS. It isn’t tat, it will last months and will save us money, the bill was £110 and cost me £30 with the discount. I also got extra points so with those I bought a new mascara and swim nappies for DS! All in all it was great.
There’s no need for the pushing and shoving though, no.

Rylanmakesmyheartsmile · 20/01/2018 14:30

I was in my local boots yesterday, although not until the end of the day as I had no idea it was 70% off day and we just noticed it when we were passing through. I've no doubt there was chaos in the morning, but despite the lack of chaos, you could easily have seen me and made assumptions about me based on what I bought:

  • 4 Happy Jackson gift sets
  • 5 journals
  • 5 Paddywax candles.

The gift sets and journals are for my DD & my niece's upcoming birthdays and the other ones will go to friends of DD's for birthday gifts. They all love the Happy Jackson range and so this was a really good way to save money on stuff I would have been buying anyway.

The candles are for 2 for me (I love them but would never pay £22 for a candle) and then the other 3 will do teacher gifts at the end of the year.

Nothing will be sold on and you can say it's thoughtless if you like to stockpile presents like that, but with 4 DC there are a lot of friends birthdays and teacher gifts to buy and these are all things I would have considered anyway so it has been a big help in terms of actual cash spent.

WhyamIBoredathome · 20/01/2018 14:33

I think I've been the recipient of this a few years running. DS several years in a row gave me toiletries gift sets wich were from the previous year's boots Xmas stock. All smelled nasty, all got charity shopped.
After 3 years I suggested we stop adult presents and just get for the kids.

MikeUniformMike · 20/01/2018 14:38

The joys of a post Christmas birthday. A 70% off left-over gift set from the sales.

Bluelady · 20/01/2018 14:41

My stepdaughter loves S&G so gets the big set every Christmas, she'd definitely know if it wasn't the current year's. They were half price before Christmas so I have no idea why people would stockpile them ar 70% off. Or why people would buy them on eBay.

Llcoolj33 · 20/01/2018 14:58

I wasn’t waiting in line....
I work for boots (and Boxing Day and 70% sale are the worst days)

OP posts:
Lweji · 21/01/2018 11:18

I work for boots

YAEMU, then.

kashleesi · 21/01/2018 11:23

Fighting and pushing is obviously out of order, but I do begrudge paying £10 for a gift set on Christmas Eve when I know for a fact that on Boxing Day it will be £5. If I knew they’d have stuff I wanted at 70% and I could get there I’d go and stock up too.

RubyLennoxExists · 21/01/2018 13:24

Does Boots take 70% off their morning after pill as well, or is the price of that still hiked up to discourage "inappropriate" use?

Girlsworld92 · 21/01/2018 13:35

I asked my hubby to get me a soap and glory set as it was down to £18 which is a bargain & he works next to a boots store. He said it was bonkers. He literally got one & left but said there were people just grabbing everything. I love a bargain as much as anyone but they should limit how many people can have. No doubt they are all over eBay now.

DotCottonDotCom · 21/01/2018 13:57

Who would even buy them off eBay and who the heck could make a profit out of them?
I don’t get it

barefoofdoctor · 21/01/2018 13:59

The Tesco bargain section is hilarious viewing, all the gannets hovering ready to pounce and the inevitable tussel over some crap that'll probably end up binned anyway.

cannotmakemymindup · 21/01/2018 14:25

barefoofdoctor I promise that whilst I do wait around for the reductions in Tesco I do not shove etc. I hate when people do. There is plenty to go round. Also happen to do so to save my family a lot of (necessary) money but so that we can still eat as well as possible. It's not funny to need reductions. I always think it must be nice to never need to do that. I'm not starting a (reduced) bun fight. I agree there are people who take so much and shove to get it and that is wrong. But honestly the other week when I managed to get some chicken reduced, the relief I felt, im afraid waiting for items makes it worth it.
I'm not there every night or anything I'm just doing my weekly shop after I finish work. Oh and it doesn't go to waste, it all gets frozen, cooked etc.
