I haven’t been out to a pub in years, am going out to one this weekend. Aibu to ask you what you like to order to drink? I need ideas so that I look like I know what I’m doing when I get there.

If it's a pub that does cocktails (i.e. one actually worth gong to) go for any kind of mojito, caipirinha or a dark and stormy or any combo of these.

ScreamingValenta · 19/01/2018 09:05

If they serve real ale, ask the bar server which one they would recommend - tell them what sort of flavours you like, e.g. sweet, nutty, fruity, spicy - if they know what they're doing they should be able to find something you'd like. If they don't serve real ale ... just find another pub Wink.

Fuzzy navel, Ass, and Wet dream are also unisex.
There's also a couple of cocktails named after balls, a sperm one.

A couple of years ago a group of us from work went to a cocktail place. 2-4-1 deal, one of the guys asked what do you want, so I sent him off to get me a Blow Job. The bar was set and a few of us looked for the dirtiest cocktail available.

Cannot believe I am having a conversation about booze at this time of the morning

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 19/01/2018 09:28

I drink white wine or occasionally a G&T.
My OH drinks a whiskey mac or half a lager.
My Dad always drinks a pint of beer.
My son drinks orange juice or becks blue (if they have it).
My other son drinks coca cola.

You really don't need to be concerned about this - you just go to the bar and order a drink. Loads of people dither when they get to the bar - including me and I go to the pub regularly - so you won't look odd if you are uncertain before choosing a drink - they'll just think you're taking your time making your mind up.

Go for something nice and discrete, like a Flaming Lambourghini...

crunchymint · 19/01/2018 09:37

A nice cup of tea

happymummy12345 · 19/01/2018 09:42

It depends what type of place it is and what you like.

MotherofaSurvivor · 19/01/2018 09:55

Baileys and coke

MotherofaSurvivor · 19/01/2018 09:57

Hedda 🤦🏼‍♀️🙄

latara23 · 19/01/2018 10:06

I don't drink so I always order a Diet Coke, I go to my local after the gym as I don't like to go straight home always.

Cath2907 · 19/01/2018 10:09

We go to a nice pub near us on a Friday early evening sometimes. Open fire, good food, board games to amuse DD. I normally order a glass of white wine, hubby has a pint of local ale (not both together one is always on softs due to driving!)

My sister is a fan of the jaegerbomb - don't go there!
My Dad likes a whisky - single malt no ice.
My mum likes a G&T or a Baileys (she and I argue over whether ice improves things).

When I am working and travelling I celebrate all good business meetings with a margarita no salt.

Order what you like!

ScrommidgeClaryAndSpunt · 19/01/2018 10:36

Guinness.

IHaveACuntingPlan · 19/01/2018 11:11

I like port & lemon but a lot of pubs don't sell it. I sometimes get funny looks from the bar staff and they ask me incredulously what port is. In that case I ask for a red wine and lemonade or just a mixed fruit kopparberg.

Goingalonenow · 19/01/2018 12:25

I serve alcohol to lovely people for a living.

If you're going for something you are not familiar with ask your bar staff. We do 18 varieties of gin and I can tell you what to pair them with. If it's wine ask how long it's been opened. Sample the ales if that's your thing.

You're the customer and we're generally nice people.

Deshasafraisy · 19/01/2018 12:26

I’m really glad I asked! This thread has been educational and very entertaining Grin
I haven’t been out dribking to the pub for years because of young children and lack of babysitters.
Not a fan of sweet drinks and am very fussy with wine.
After reading all your comments I think a pint of ale/lager or a vodka soda and lime are my best options.
motherofasurvivor Baileys and coke? Doesn’t that curdle Envy (not envy)

Real ale, everything else I can drink at home. Just drink what you fancy, seems a bizarre question. It's not about looking appropriate but having a drink you enjoy.

Snowysky20009 · 19/01/2018 17:31

Oooooo Flaming Lambourghini we used to have them every Friday and Saturday night- it was our first drink and last drink each night in the cocktail bar. (Bf's bf was the barman)

LemonysSnicket · 19/01/2018 18:01

Lager, red wine, rum and coke. Just drink your usual tipple !

OakIsBetterTho · 19/01/2018 18:05

I go for a Guinness and port or a gin and juice 🤷🏼‍♀️
