Drinking in a pub.

I haven’t been out to a pub in years, am going out to one this weekend. Aibu to ask you what you like to order to drink? I need ideas so that I look like I know what I’m doing when I get there.

@CheapSausagesAndSpam
"I'll have a hairy anus please. And hold the tabasco."

Taffeta · 19/01/2018 07:58

I didn’t go out drinking in pubs for about 10 years when the kids were younger

I did go out - but not in pubs

Easier now they’re older

I remember pre kids when “red wine” in a pub was some god awful vinegar/ 5 yr old Beaujolais cross Grin

OP red wine in most pubs is ace now - esp the restauranty pubs

You choose from a proper list eg Malbec Merlot etc and know what bottle is

But round our way a small glass is £7 minimum so take plenty of cash

Thishatisnotmine · 19/01/2018 08:01

Ginkypig Malibu and milk!?

Wine, beer, or if I was out for real drinks, a negroni. Depending on the pub. (not a traditional old man pub - which I love) there is nothing odd about ordrring a tea or coffee now.

Taffeta · 19/01/2018 08:01

Oh I should add I am still flummoxed at our slightly down at heel local boozer if I ask for a G and T and they ask which gin I want Grin

whoareyoukidding · 19/01/2018 08:04

Last time I went into a pub there were wall-to-wall tvs blaring out sport and it was full of men with VERY LOUD VOICES all talking crap. The drinks were really expensive too. Stay at home instead OP or go out to dinner somewhere.

socksandpants · 19/01/2018 08:05

I seem to be in the minority in that I drink soft drinks. Diet coke or orange juice or sparkling water...

I drink champagne/sparkling wine, but in pubs, if buying buy the glass, it is grim. Bottle opened already usually so flat, and warm. I have been offered ice because of flat lukewarm bubbly before!

So, I'll stick to the soft drinks thank you.

deptfordgirl · 19/01/2018 08:07

Gin and tonic is a good option. I also usually just drink wine with a meal.

Shimmershimmerandshine · 19/01/2018 08:10

I'll have red wine if I'm just out for one or two. If it's a whole night of drinking I stick to halves of lager as that way I don't get too drunk.

Tisfortired · 19/01/2018 08:17

It depends on the occasion for me. G+T in the day time and something like disaronno and come, or spiced rum and coke in the evening.

Also not opposed to a nice pint of cider and black if funds are low... ;)

NataliaOsipova · 19/01/2018 08:17

Why aren't sexually named cocktails ever called after man-parts?

This is a good point. Mind you, I've never recovered from a party in my teenage years when I was tasked with ordering pizza and had to phone and ask for a 12 inch meat feast.....

Tisfortired · 19/01/2018 08:17

*and COKE not come Blush

BarbaraofSevillle · 19/01/2018 08:18

Glad I'm not the only one who drinks wine at home but not in pubs due to the cost. I just can't bring myself to pay more for a glass of crap wine than what the whole bottle costs at the supermarket.

I usually drink pints of lager in pubs, but drink G&T or cava at home. I might have those out if there are reasonably priced, which is rare unfortunately.

Taffeta Even Wetherspoons has a 'Gin Palace' with a selection of naice gins these days.

EggsonHeads · 19/01/2018 08:20

All the cool kids are drinking vermouth. Whatever you do please don't order over complicated fancy gin or prosecco. A classic G&T is acceptable if you are over a certain age.

Theresnonamesleft · 19/01/2018 08:27

Am I the only person who hates Gin?

Depends really. A pint or lager. A cider. Bottle of wine. Vodka and coke. Southern comfort and lemonade. Rum. Chambard Royale.n

Needthesunshine · 19/01/2018 08:32

I quite like Sex on the Beach but you can’t get it in Wetherspoons.

Theresnonamesleft · 19/01/2018 08:33

I get Sex on the beach in spoons.

If your feeling brave, order a Duck Fart

whiskyowl · 19/01/2018 08:34

You'll be fine. Just order what you normally drink. Smile

Jaygee61 · 19/01/2018 08:41

Am I the only person who hates Gin?

Not a big gin drinker. Gin and tonic is a summer drink to me and I'm not that keen even then. I like whisky though.

GlitterRollerSkate · 19/01/2018 08:41

@Theresnonamesleft is it the gin you hate? I always thought I didn't like gin but turns out I can't stand tonic. Blush I always had drank a g and t. Gin and juice is nice.

extinctspecies · 19/01/2018 08:41

If it's a fairly busy pub with a wine list I will have a glass of white wine.

(If it's not, there's a risk that the wine might have been open for days).

If not I have half a dry cider. Or maybe lager if I'm in that kind of mood.

And always a packet of cheese & onion crisps.

whiskyowl · 19/01/2018 08:44

glitter - Of course there are loads of cocktails, but with just a mixer, gin and bitter lemon or gin and club soda (with lime)?

Theresnonamesleft · 19/01/2018 08:45

I love tonic. Sometimes drink it on it's own. It's the Gin, have tried several types because everyone says oh but you must like it, you just haven't found the right brand.

NerrSnerr · 19/01/2018 08:51

@whoareyoukidding that was just one pub though, not representative of all pubs.

Why aren't sexually named cocktails ever called after man-parts?
Slippery nipples are unisex. Men have nipples too.

1ndig0 · 19/01/2018 08:54

Who are you going to this pub with OP?
You can't go wrong with a G&T.

BusterTheBulldog · 19/01/2018 08:59

The pub drinks menu is most likely on line, have a look at that and then you will be prepared!
