I know MN isn't a doctors and all that jazz . I'm more curious if I should be worried...

I was fine yesterday morning but then all of a sudden I started feeling unwell - shaky , lethargic and just out of sorts.

I then developed a dry cough in a few hours.

I have periods of feeling really cold to the bone but my skin is hot to touch .

I didn't sleep well last night .

I have a raw feeling in my chest and my throat feels very "airy" but not sore .

My whole body is aching but mainly my neck . My neck feels stiff to the point I want to cry - but I can move it , it's just the constant achy pain .

I have a dull but not horrific headache.

If I breathe in too much or too fast , I get a sharp pain under my boob .

My kidneys are giving me stabbing pains but I'm wondering if this is because I haven't been drinking enough water .

I have felt very sick but have been able to do some work today (I work from home).

The moment I stand I feel lightheaded and nauseous .

I've taken to my bed but I can still eat , move around etc . Albeit I'm not eating as much as I usually do that will do me some good

Anyone else had this virus ?

The flu perhaps?

SalsaCado · 18/01/2018 12:13

Oh and my shoulders and back are achy too.

Sounds just like a nasty virus, especially if it’s only been a day or so. Lots of painkillers and fluids and rest and hopefully you should feel better soon. Flowers

GlitterUnicornsAndAllThatJazz · 18/01/2018 12:18

It sounds like really bad flu

DixieFlatline · 18/01/2018 12:20

Try a hot bath/shower or a heat pad for your neck. I once got scared I had meningitis but the pain and stiffness went away for a while with each time I did that.

Obviously if your neck stiffness remains very bad and you are worried, contact your GP for advice.

Purringkittenmama · 18/01/2018 12:22

Hope you feel better soon. My advice is based on having flu which became pneumonia a couple of years ago.
If you have a really high temperature, see a doctor/ ring 111.
If you have a slight temperature give it a couple of days.
I now have a thermometer at home which is really useful- even when I've felt really bad as long as I've not had a fever I've been reassured that I'm probably OK.
But I'm not a dcotor/HCP so my advice may be wrong- just based on experience.
Really hope it goes away quickly.

slookiroo · 18/01/2018 12:23

Aussie flu I'd say. It's not fun of it is, rest rest and more rest!

TeeBee · 18/01/2018 12:23

Probably flu.

Slanetylor · 18/01/2018 12:23

Flu? Are you very young? Don't rule out meningitis if you are! Also don't ask the internet to diagnose you if you don't want the bejasus scared out of you ;-)

SalsaCado · 18/01/2018 12:25

I'm not sure if I fit the bill for flu as I can still function .

Although the symptoms do match flu - weirdly I don't have a runny nose or stuffy nose at all Confused

OP posts:
GetDownDog · 18/01/2018 12:26

We've all had this over the last week or so.
We decided it couldn't be flu as dh managed to keep working (although he shouldn't have as he was a comple wreck), but whatever it was was bloody awful and we're still only just starting to feel a bit better.

GetDownDog · 18/01/2018 12:27

Xpost OP, yeah, we could all kind of function. Flu is meant to be completely debilitating isn't it? Although some people I know have had the luxury of staying in bed throughout with the same symptoms.

cantucciniamaretto · 18/01/2018 12:28

OP, don't take medical advice from aibu.
MN'ers, don't diagnose people on aibu.

Both are idiotic.

SalsaCado · 18/01/2018 12:32

cantucinni rest assured I'm not an idiot and will base my decisions on actual medical advice Smile

Mrsdraper1 · 18/01/2018 12:32

If you had flu you wouldn't be able to get out of bed. I had it and it felt like death. I couldn't hold a conversation or even sit up when it was bad. It sounds strange. See your GP if you are worried.

gingerbreadmam · 18/01/2018 12:33

Urgh I've got similar and people keep saying Aussie flu but I don't feel ill enough.

I've got the dull headache. Stiff and achey neck and shoulders. Sore, itchy throat. Ears playing up a bit and randomly light headed / dizzy at times. Don't fancy anything to eat or drink but doing so because I know I should.

Someone came into work really I'll Monday and sneezed all over so I'm guessing that's where it came from but like you I don't have a runny nose either.

Felt like someone had their hands round my neck last night. Awful sleep.

DixieFlatline · 18/01/2018 12:39

You can have flu that feels milder than a cold. Besides which, it's irrelevant which it is, if it's one of the two. Course of action would be the same.

SalsaCado · 18/01/2018 12:39

My armpit temperature is 37.7.

OP posts:
MagicWillHappen · 18/01/2018 12:39

If you have a really high temperature, see a doctor/ ring 111.
If you have a slight temperature give it a couple of days.

Sorry but this is totally wrong.

If you have a dangerously high temperature (over 41 I think?) you need to be seen as the temperature itself is the 'danger'.

In terms of general illness though the level of high temperature is largely unimportant - just the fact you have one is the only relevant thing to the possible level of illness.

You could easily spike 40 degree temps with a mild, one day virus. Or you could have a temp of 38.4 and it's meningitis.

Telling someone to pretty much only worry if their temperature is sky high is not only inaccurate but really dangerous.

TeeBee · 18/01/2018 12:40

I started off like this, within days I couldn't actually get out of bed. I didn't have a sniffle either. The respiratory component is the primary one with this flu. Its a corker.

IcySlippy · 18/01/2018 12:40

You can have all sorts that make you feel awful and you can have various levels of flu. I have had confirmed flu before (via) a swab and still been watching tv and posting on mn to pass the time. And other hours of that day was zonked out for hours at a time and felt awful.

ZoopDragon · 18/01/2018 12:41

Unlikely to be flu without a high temp.

Probably a virus. Take paracetamol/ibruprofen and see if symptoms improve.

SalsaCado · 18/01/2018 12:42

What is classed as a high temperature ?

Dr Google says different things !

OP posts:
MagicWillHappen · 18/01/2018 12:44

The cough, raw feeling in your chest and sharp pain under your boob - this would be enough for me to go to the GP tbh.

Anything viral making you feel that poorly usually comes with a temperature.

I would go today to get checked.

ZoopDragon · 18/01/2018 12:44

Normal body temp is around 37.5 but it can vary a bit, depending what's normal for you. I'd class anything over 38.5 as a high temp/mild fever. 39-40 a high fever.
