I know MN isn't a doctors and all that jazz . I'm more curious if I should be worried...

I was fine yesterday morning but then all of a sudden I started feeling unwell - shaky , lethargic and just out of sorts.

I then developed a dry cough in a few hours.

I have periods of feeling really cold to the bone but my skin is hot to touch .

I didn't sleep well last night .

I have a raw feeling in my chest and my throat feels very "airy" but not sore .

My whole body is aching but mainly my neck . My neck feels stiff to the point I want to cry - but I can move it , it's just the constant achy pain .

I have a dull but not horrific headache.

If I breathe in too much or too fast , I get a sharp pain under my boob .

My kidneys are giving me stabbing pains but I'm wondering if this is because I haven't been drinking enough water .

I have felt very sick but have been able to do some work today (I work from home).

The moment I stand I feel lightheaded and nauseous .

I've taken to my bed but I can still eat , move around etc . Albeit I'm not eating as much as I usually do that will do me some good

Anyone else had this virus ?

My laryngitis started off like that. Took about 3 days until I felt like I wanted to die. Then I spent a week in bed. Still don't feel great 3 weeks on.

MagicWillHappen · 18/01/2018 12:45

Different for different people, depending on your usual body temp - but 37.7 wouldn't be considered 'a temperature' by anyone.

wifeyhun · 18/01/2018 12:47

Sounds like what me and dd have had this past couple of weeks,

nasty nasty bug it is.

EllenRipley · 18/01/2018 12:51

Same as @gingerbreadmam here - the past couple of weeks I've had shivers, aching shoulders/neck and a throat that feels like someone's got their hands around it. It comes and goes. I'm in Scotland and there's loads of horrible viruses going round that are flooring folk and I don't even think Aussie flu has properly hit yet. Flu or not, I'd treat it as such OP and get some rest! If you're getting pain on breathing I would visit GP, just to be safe.

Ask for a telephone appointment.

BrownBrown · 18/01/2018 12:56

That sounds like a virus - potentially 'flu

RoseWhiteTips · 18/01/2018 12:58

Sounds like textbook Aussie flu.

BarbarianMum · 18/01/2018 13:01

The one and only time I had flu I went into college, sat through 3 hours of lectures, then went into a physiology practical which was (ironically enough) an exploration of human body temperature, where we discovered that my temperature was 102. I didn't feel ill, just very odd and "disconnected". They sent me home by taxi where i sat around a bit then wrote up my lecture notes. The next day I collapsed and couldn't get out of bed for days. So i wouldn't discount flu just because you can function after a fashion.

ForgivenessIsDivine · 18/01/2018 13:06

A study during swine flu was aiming to determine how extensively the virus was circulating and they tested a whole range of people and found the virus in people who's symptoms ranged from nothing, mild runny nose to being completely bed ridden. The MN mantra that it can't be flu unless you cannot move is completely and utterly false.

SalsaCado · 18/01/2018 13:14

I've just looked up the symptoms for Aussie flu and I have almost every one .

Maybe it is flu Confused

Sounds like textbook Aussie flu

and every other kind of flu, and about a thousand other things as well.

Inthedeepdarkwinter · 18/01/2018 13:24

forgiveness I was coming on to say that- it is unlikely you'd be bedridden for a week with an ordinary cold, but it doesn't follow that you must be bedridden to have flu! It doesn't work like that, viruses are most effective when their hosts are out and about spreading it, and so some people who are mildly or hardly affected are ideal. If everyone dropped to the floor and crawled to bed and stayed there, the virus would find it hard to replicate- so actually, a period of 'going downhill' or even just having a milder version is possible.

It's like chicken pox- many people get that or the herpes virus and don't even realise, others are covered in spots and ill for three weeks.

Flu is dangerous especially because of the temp and the potential to affect your lungs/allow pneumonia/other bacterial infections.

DixieFlatline · 18/01/2018 13:29

37.7 wouldn't be considered 'a temperature' by anyone.

Though I wouldn’t consider a temperature reading taken in the armpit as remotely useful. Unless the thermometer is calibrated specifically for the armpit - and even then...

SalsaCado · 18/01/2018 13:37

I'm slightly concerned as I have a strange burning sensation in my chest when I'm lying down as well as well as generalised rib pain.

I don't want to waste anyone's time though as I'm forever at my doctor's for a chronic health condition (not life threatening ).

It's unlikely I'll get an appointment this late in the day.

OP posts:
SalsaCado · 18/01/2018 13:40

I'm bored and checking my temperature intermittently Grin

It's now 38 and that's after a dose of paracetamol. Confused

OP posts:
goose1964 · 18/01/2018 13:46

Please don't go to the doctor's,If it is the flu you'll just passing it on. There's a huge advertisement In our local rag saying that people with the flu and other viruses are taking up appointments which genuinely ill people need

SalsaCado · 18/01/2018 13:46

I didn't mean go to the Drs surgery ,I meant a telephone appointment

ExConstance · 18/01/2018 13:49

A GP on breakfast TV last week was saying that the Japanese strain of the flu doesn't have the runny nose and sore throat symptoms. If you are hot and have aching muscles sounds like the flu.

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 18/01/2018 13:49

I had this last weekend (actually thought it was an rather unwarranted but extreme hangover given the extreme nausea, inability to move and lack of sniffles etc) even down to the kidney pains and neck ache. It lasted 2 days and then I felt much better on the third if tha gives you hope!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 18/01/2018 13:50

Flu.

SalsaCado · 18/01/2018 13:57

Yes that does make me feel better ! I'm on day 1.5 now - shall I hold out hope to feel better tomorrow ?

OP posts:
GetDownDog · 18/01/2018 14:07

I'm day 8 here, much better than I was but still vaguely headachy and breathing/burning chest sensation still there.

Yes, I am aware of that. However, Aussie flu is the one causing issues at the moment.
