To not like it so hard

I'm talking butter.

It pisses me off how hard it is straight out the fridge, but someone I know says that butter dishes are "poncey" and leaving the butter dish out of the fridge to be permanently soft is "minging".

So whats the solution?

I have two butter dishes so one can be washed at a time. Butter out all year here, just put half a block out at a time here when it get very warm.
Nice cow butter dish

NotAChristmasCakePop · 17/01/2018 21:19

butter dish on the side bar the very hottest days.

WheresTheHooferDoofer · 17/01/2018 21:20

If my butter is hard, I give it 10 seconds in the microwave to soften enough to spread. Any longer and it melts.

minipie · 17/01/2018 21:20

I have a butter dish

We keep the butter dish in the fridge Grin

I like my butter very cold and very hard

If I need to spread it on soft bread I get the butterdish out of the fridge 10 minutes in advance and leave it somewhere quite warm

SimultaneousEquation · 17/01/2018 21:21

Butter dish. And even then it’s too hard to spread at the moment (must have a cold house). I can tell when it’s summer as I can spread sandwiches without ripping the bread Smile

dementedma · 17/01/2018 21:21

i didn't know anyone actually had a butter dish and yet you all do!
we just use spreadable.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 17/01/2018 21:21

İ thought you meant something else.
My filthy mind. Tut tut

Fintress · 17/01/2018 21:32

Butter dish here too. Nothing like real butter, none of that spreadable crap Grin

barefoofdoctor · 17/01/2018 21:34

You can still afford butter? Bloody hell you must be loaded!

TheSassyAssassin · 17/01/2018 21:34

Unsalted butter here and doesn't go 'off'.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 17/01/2018 21:40

Hmm

It’s butter, not Moose Cheese.

Hs2Issue · 17/01/2018 21:41

Butter dish here too, though we had to buy the butter dish in a hurry 16 years ago when we got a kitten who we discovered would eat butter if left out uncovered. Both cat and butter dish are still with me.

pinkginanyone · 17/01/2018 21:42

Annie..... butter this Biscuit

Some of us are skint!

BarbaraofSevillle · 17/01/2018 21:45

If you leave the butter out so it spreads easily, you use a lot less. We also have the glass cow butter dish, I think they also sell it in Wilko as well as online.

We use ours the other way up, which I realise is probably wrong, but it probably just means that both DP and I were badly brought up as DM and MIL both use theirs the same - ie the covered tray way not the dish with a lid way IYSWIM.

BarbaraofSevillle · 17/01/2018 21:47

That's lovely HS2. I have learnt that if you have a particularly boisterous and greedy boy cat, their head butts are powerful enough to knock the lid off the dish to release the buttery deliciousness to them.

CaptainHammer · 17/01/2018 21:49

Butter dish and a SpreadTHAT! butter knife which heats up and makes spreading butter so much easier.

iamloading · 17/01/2018 21:49

Butter in fridge, then use a potato peeler as needed to make thin lovely sheets that melt perfectly on post. Trust me it's genius!!

SimonBridges · 17/01/2018 22:11

Butter dish.
I have a glass one for winter and an insulated one for summer.

SimonBridges · 17/01/2018 22:12

Oh and I have two butters. Brittany butter for eating and regular in the fridge for cooking.
Brittney butter is lush.

Lentilbaby · 17/01/2018 22:14

@iamloading
Potato peeler- brilliant idea!

yogaginrepeat · 17/01/2018 22:15

@caoraich , that's fine if that's all that's in it! Just I have a relative who works in the manufacturing of spreadable dairy products and have heard horror stories (plus have witnessed the consequences of skin contact with some of the ingredients.....stopped using spreads years ago as a result). But only two natural ingredients is obviously fine!

Fluffyears · 17/01/2018 22:18

I don’t refrigerate mine. If it gorsbhard(cold weather etc) boil the kettle and fill a glass with boiling water for a few minutes, cut some butter onto a plate, empty water from glass and then put hot glass upended over the hard butter for a minute or so. Voila, soft butter!

PricillaQueenOfTheDesert · 17/01/2018 22:20

Butter dish is always out, we’ve never had butter turn or go off.

isthismummy · 17/01/2018 22:21

Butter dish. Butter straight from the fridge is the work of the devil!

RowenasDiadem · 17/01/2018 22:22

Butter dish!
