To not like it so hard

I'm talking butter.

It pisses me off how hard it is straight out the fridge, but someone I know says that butter dishes are "poncey" and leaving the butter dish out of the fridge to be permanently soft is "minging".

So whats the solution?

Lurpak spreadable.

Idontdowindows · 17/01/2018 20:14

Full fat butter in a butter dish that is not in the fridge at any point in time.

kennycat · 17/01/2018 20:14

We have one of those stainless steel insulating butter dishes and it renders the butter rock like in the winter. I don't use butter at all for myself but when I make my husband's sarnies he basically has lumps of butter in it or holes in the bread from attempting to spread it. He's never complained but then he knows it would mean he would have to make his own sandwiches in future!

Insulated butter dish from Lakeland...it’s kind of hideous stainless steel, but very handy.

raymonReddingtonsOtherdaughter · 17/01/2018 20:15

Oops kennycat said the same..

BashStreetKid · 17/01/2018 20:17

Butter dish. Microwave if necessary - 13 seconds for a full block, less once it's smaller. Can you tell I've had to do this rather often?

BlackeyedSusan · 17/01/2018 20:17

my dad used to cut a chunk off and leave in a dish and leave the rest in the fridge. best of both worlds. probably had to use a fecking axe to get any off mind

Chewbecca · 17/01/2018 20:18

I have a lovely purple butter dish & it is fine left out all year round. Blocks of butter are about half the price of spreadable as well as containing less butter!

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 17/01/2018 20:18

First thing I did on leaving home was buy a nice le creuset (tk maxx) butterdish. Hate butter in the fridge. DF insists on it in the fridge. I hate hard butter and rebelled asap Grin

moreismore · 17/01/2018 20:19

Butterdish
I also find kerrygold a bit softer straight from fridge than other brands...

grumpygiraffe · 17/01/2018 20:19

Butter dish. In the airing cupboard.

PocketCoffeeEspresso · 17/01/2018 20:21

Butter dishes are the way forward if your family can be trusted not to make it disgusting. Mine can't so it's spreadable (which isn't entirely butter, but is close enough).

When the kids have grown up a bit I intend to figure out the correct temperature for butter and make some kind of piezo electric heater/cooler pad thing for the butterdish so it's kept the right temperature. It can be done, I'm sure of it.

WineAndTiramisu · 17/01/2018 20:22

Butter dish here as well, unless height of summer. A lovely purple le creuset one I also bought from TK Max!

SavvyFishFinger · 17/01/2018 20:22

Just realised I am a total pervert. This thread has me thinking of Last Tango in Paris Blush

midsomermurderess · 17/01/2018 20:23

Get a butter dish, lose that friend.

ShimmeringBollox · 17/01/2018 20:24

We have a butter dish and a nice butter knife too.
I am quite interested in an insulated butter dish if they're any good....?

MrsKoala · 17/01/2018 20:25

My house must be freezing because even with the butter dish on the surface next to the hob the butter is rock hard. In the summer it's just a puddle of oil. We have spreadable Lurpak, which is the compromise.

honeyroar · 17/01/2018 20:26

Another vote for butter dishes. Although our house is so cold that the butter is still hard in a butter dish in winter! Our butter dish has to move into the utility (where the boiler is) for the winter.

AmethystRaven · 17/01/2018 20:27

DH got a soft block of butter that you can spread cold from Morrisons I think.

mydietstartsmonday Someone recently admired my Le Creuset teapot and I was compelled to yell 'oh, it's just TK Maxx' for some reason!

ShimmeringBollox · 17/01/2018 20:28

I used to have spreadable anchor but it just wasn't the same. I really really enjoy real butter, especially if it has salt crystals in it.

NoParticularPattern · 17/01/2018 20:28

Butter dish. I have two so that I am never without spreadable butter when one is in the dishwasher. Butter straight from the fridge is only ever used for filling the dishes up again or when said dishes have run out when cooking here. I have a special freezer stash of butter for pastry.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 17/01/2018 20:29

I guessed it wouldn’t be as exciting as the title...😂

Butterdish (but kept in the cupboard, I can’t stand clutter on the worktops) I cut off a bit from the main block so it’s not around, unrefrugerated, for too long (day or so).

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 17/01/2018 20:30

Do you have any ramekins? Even the type that you get desserts in would do. Cut enough butter for 2/3 days, leave in ramekin. When you're running low put more butter in another ramekin (to give it a few hours to soften before use) and when the first ramekin is finished stick it in the dishwasher. Not minging at all.

Giggorata · 17/01/2018 20:30

Again, butter dish. And butter knife. Proper.

jemmstar1980 · 17/01/2018 20:31
