To want to put my velvet sofa outside?

Its my old sofa that I love dearly. Its quite threadbare and cat scratched now. I want to put it outside so i can sit out and smoke and read on it (partner's sofa is admittedly technically bigger and better and theres nowhere else to put it).

How can I protect it from getting all mouldy and gross or won't I be able to?

We have this range with a good quality cover. Im storing the cushions in the shed over winter. I've noticed in heavy wind or rain the cover has shifted. Fine because it's only plastic underneath. Not so fine if it was velvet!

Have you been watching The Wire, OP?

dutysuite · 18/01/2018 09:05

I wouldn't. Mice will just live in it. I saw a rat climb underneath a car and cling on for dear life the other day, they get everywhere! Shock

Battleax · 18/01/2018 09:10

So are you combining households?

Is that why it's cropped up?

@Battleax

Yep, and the really frustrating thing is that factually, his stuff is "better" - bed, dining room table, sofa, etc.

As an example, my bed was a futon. I just like sleeping on the floor. But admittedly, yes, his bed is a proper bed with a nice comfy mattress etc.

But it's just like I feel sad all my stuff is going into the basement.

Same with the sofa, so I have my old faded 3 seater as described in OP, whereas he has a massive pull out thing you can sprawl on etc. I dunno.

@BekoLeGecko
We already have that stuff, thank you for searching though! The problem is more an emotional one if you read my post just above this one

Save yourself the worry and get a green plastic chair, Kath Day Knight style.

Ha. Move to my street. Every other house has a sofa in the garden. Not a good look.

Rebeccaslicker · 18/01/2018 09:25

OP - the only option is to LTB and find yourself a new partner with crap furniture. Problem solved Grin

SequinsOnEverything · 18/01/2018 09:27

Now I really want to watch kath and kim again!

Battleax · 18/01/2018 09:27

Material quality isn't the only measure of "good". Yours is good because it's yours and you're attached to it.

SuperBeagle · 18/01/2018 09:28

Sequins Do it!

Bluntness100 · 18/01/2018 09:30

Why put your stuff in thr basement? Why not sell it and buy something lovely for the house?

JenniferL90 · 18/01/2018 09:46

Mmm, smoking fags on your velvet sofa in the garden.......

BulletFox · 18/01/2018 09:52

Jonsey I've never had a rat sneak up and bite my bottom Grin

Perhaps they just like yours.

It sounds quite idyllic in theory reclining on the sofa outside with a book, drink and having a cigarette but don't know if you could protect it from damp enough

picklemepopcorn · 18/01/2018 09:52

Is there someone you could give it to, so you would feel it was going on to have a good life elsewhere? My old sofa went to a young woman who was just setting up her first home, in difficult circumstances.

picklemepopcorn · 18/01/2018 09:58

My son had a rat sneak up and bite his bottom! It was our rat though. She'd made a nest in the sofa, and he was sat in her doorway when she wanted to get out.

AgathaRaisonDetra · 18/01/2018 16:24

Do it!! Don't forget to report back with photos.
