So today went swimming for first time in a couple of months.

I go say twice a month but want to make it twice weekly. .
I wear a t shirt in pool. I am a good swimmer but rather cover up.
I was only person in pool when person on duty stopped me from swimming and said it was policy that you must not wear a t shirt in the pool.

We discussed it and I explained well I wear it all the time and have done in every pool in the county and never had an issue.

Person said he would let me swim today but I wouldn’t be allowed to in future as it’s considered dangerous if weak swimmers wear them.

To which I replied am I a weak swimmer. He said well no defiantly not. You’re a good swimmer.

I continued to swim alsongside a swimming instructor swimming Lengths in a t shirt.
Due to being annoyed still After getting changed I asked to see policy and was told it wasn’t available.

My question what would you do? Would you leave it at this?

I can understand why just swimming wear should be worn in a swimming pool tbh.

If people wear outdoor clothes they could have a lot of dirt on them. Their colours might bleed in the pool etc. I’d rather people just wore swimwear.

Yes there would be no check on how filthy people's clothes might be.

Why do you want to cover up?

I'm sorry but it is dangerous for weak swimmers to wear outdoor clothing in the pool and if you are wearing it then others may start too.
Just wear swimwear when swimming.

Why don’t you buy a long sleeved dash vest instead?

To be fair it’s more I wasn’t able to see policy more than anything else.
We have to wear t shirts when we go in pool for work. Instructors have to wear them too.

Have you looked into something like this?

My local pool has a poster up with what is considered appropriate swimwear.

A t-shirt would not be it.

A skintight t-shirt shaped top made of swimwear-type material would be.

I wear a rash vest, much better than a t-shirt as there's no drag or no chance of tangling up in a t-shirt. They can't object to a rash vest.

I've seen only swim wear in the pool rules at other places. I guess without that rule people could turn up wearing anything to swim in ie jeans etc which might not be safe or clean.
Is the tshirt because you prefer more coverage than a normal swimsuit? Would something like this work for you?

It’s more to be honest about the policy and not being able to see it on request.

I didn’t know you could get tops like that for adults.

Poster in changing room only says about children. That babies must wear swimming nappies.

It probably doesn’t mention t shirts in the policy, which is why it was unavailable.
I bet they wouldnt argue with you wearing a burkini swimsuit like this one...

What would I do? I wouldn't wear a T shirt in the pool. I would rather people wore dedicated swim wear in the pool, i.e. a swimsuit. You may wear a freshly laundered T shirt only in the pool and be a strong swimmer but others may not.

Playing devils advocate here I remember about 10 years ago when most women in my city would always wear a t-shirt over their costumes. It almost became a culture when women wanting to show off their bodies would only wear a costume. I hated it as I started wearing one just to fit in with others in the pool and it was totally unpractical.

You can buy costumes now that look like t-shirts but are actually designed for swimming. Maybe google modest swim wear as there's a fair demand for it with women who are religious or wanting more of a cover up.

I would also be annoyed if they couldn't provide evidence for this policy- maybe you could email the management as maybe they have a case where out door clothing caused injury. In the US it's custom for kids to wear tshirts when they're on camp or on a school swimming trip so I can't imagine it for health and safety imo.
