I'm here publicly admitting (although with name change) that I'm 27, married and a mother of one and I like to sleep cuddling my jelly cat penguin my hubby bought me when I was 18 Blush

Anyone else a bit random?

can't walk over 3 drains! That was a thing when I was a teenager and I'm the only one still doing it!

Don't worry you're not! But it's ok to walk over them if you have your fingers crossed! It's second nature to me to avoid them or cross fingers if I can't avoid them.

Also salute magpies. One appears outside my (old) office window a certain time every year so i used to be saluting a lot. Colleague thought I was mad. Always hoped it would bring another back with it (for luck!) But it never did. I've moved office now so i dont see him anymore!

RosyPrimroseface · 17/01/2018 21:46

When I'm a passenger in a car, I pick a spot or chip on the windscreen and "drive" it around the sky by moving my head. I try and avoid it touching trees and houses. If it goes through a bridge or electricity line, I blink.

Would really like to know if anyone else does this!!

WhooooAmI24601 · 17/01/2018 21:53

When I use tinned goods like kidney beans or sweetcorn or tinned tomatoes I have to make sure every bit is out of the tin. Not so bad.

Til you hear that I have to make sure every bit is outside the tin because I'm afraid the leftover foods will be lonely if I leave it in there and I'm denying it it's destiny.

Even DH doesn't know that because he'd be certain to question my fitness to operate machinery/raise children.

MelanieSmooter · 17/01/2018 21:53

Um, I have a ribbon called a "La-la" that I rub on my nose when I'm in bed all the time

I have some old bits of pajamas (that are long dead) that live in my bedside cabinet so that I can rub them before I go to sleep. I am nearly 30. Blush

derangedmermaid · 17/01/2018 21:56

Fuckin loads.

I'm scared of non existent things that live under things. Like, terrified.

I won't flush the toilet at night because I will die.

I only wear sturdy boots. Ever. In case there is an emergency where the world ends and I can't go home and suitable footwear is incredibly important.

And some other stuff that just makes people side eye me and say "you're weird".

Steaksauce · 17/01/2018 22:03

I nearly always watch tv with one hand inside my bra holding one of my boobs.
It's really comfy.

I do sometimes find myself starting to do it when round at my mums or a friends or something and have to consciously stop myself.

TroysMammy · 17/01/2018 22:06

I have been collecting postcards since I was 11. I'm now 50. If a work colleague brings me back a postcard from their holidays I place it on my work computer so I can look at it throughout the day.

I then take it home, write who gave it to me and the date of their holiday and display it on my fridge for a few days.

I then put it in a box, in country alphabetical order and never look at it again.

I also wear sturdy boots at all times in case I have to walk 300 miles to the last remaining humans in the safe town surrounded by 30 foot electric fences. I also have the urge to always have a backpack filled with essentials just in case, with me. I feel that one is a bit extreme.

I have an anxiety induced ocd with lip balm. When I feel anxious and stressed, I put my lip balm on and my heart relaxes. I ALWAYS have lip balm on me and even thinking about the lip balm gliding across my lips, I feel calmer already.

I also run my fingers along individual hairs and then find the right one and yank it out and then run it through my fingers. I'm working on breaking that one though as it's an actual illness and I'm practically bald on top 😒

I also count everything when I'm the car. Every fence post is counted in threes. Every lampost. Every front door. I can't not do it.

I also play through scenarios in my head so I'm prepared for them. But they are usually terribly far fetched and depressing and then I get genuinely upset because I feel like it's actually happened.

I think mine have a lot to do with my anxiety though 😂

derangedmermaid · 17/01/2018 22:13

@mamahanji

It's just sensible.

After sex last night I was laid in DPs arms and I sighed and he was like "what are you thinking?"

"Um. That bit in resident evil where the laser goes through the sequence of parrallel lines and diagonal lines and the right at the end does the death net.
Why wouldn't it just go straight to the death net?"

I have no idea why he thinks I'll probably smother him at some point.

mamahanji · 17/01/2018 22:17

Deranged mermaid

I'm genuinely freaking out right now. I had that exact conversation with my dp the other day. It wasn't after sex though. It was over dinner.

iklboo · 17/01/2018 22:20

Clary - don't worry, the monster under your bed won't get you. It's scared of the vampire clown in the wardrobe.

derangedmermaid · 17/01/2018 22:23

@mamahanji SHUT UP.

We should probably stop discussing this. People are watching. (Sorry, I've just binged Dirk Gently, I'm in a weird mood)

I also taste soaps and things.

Ever licked a bath bomb in the middle of a packed Lush shop because you forgot where you were? I have.

iklboo · 17/01/2018 22:24

I absolutely can't look at anyone else in a mirror or speak to them - you know, like at the hairdressers. If I really have to I look at some point behind them, never in the eyes.

Foundwantingalways · 17/01/2018 22:25

Rosyprimroseface I do the same! I also 'bounce' the spot over each of the white lines at the side of the road by tensing and untensing my jaw. Written down, that just seems crazy.

Tisfortired · 17/01/2018 22:26

@disneydatknee I do that too and have never known anybody else to do it! It feels so nice and satisfying like you're giving your throat a nice big itch!

Tisfortired · 17/01/2018 22:29

When I was young, about 10/11, my stepdad would shout at me a lot and I was always quite a nervy kid. When he shouted at me or said something mean, I would mentally count the amount of letters in the words he was saying and then see if it could be divided by three? Really really odd. So if he was to say 'why haven't you washed up?' That's 20 letters and not a multiple of three. No idea why I did it but I still do now.

mamahanji · 17/01/2018 22:31

No...I haven't licked a bath bomb 😂😂

I do get the urge to put things in my mouth a lot though. It's like being a baby. One of my first instincts is to put it in my mouth. It's one I've learned to suppress a lot, especially things that specifically don't go in mouths. Like soap and bath bombs Wink

Sparklesocks · 17/01/2018 22:32

When I’m home alone I interview myself, as both the interviewee and interviewer. Sometimes I’ve won best actress Oscar, other times I’m just doing a YouTube style vlog describing my day Grin

I like to put rain sounds on my iPhone if i can’t sleep.

When I donate stuff to the charity shop i like to imagine who will buy it and the type of person who will buy it, similarly if I buy something from a charity shop I imagine what I think the donor is like..

Valerrie · 17/01/2018 22:32

When I turn my bedside lamp off, if I open my eyes more than three times I have to turn it back on and start over.

If I pass someone on the stairs, I have to turn around three times when I get to the bottom/top.

Left sock and shoe always go on first.

If I bash an elbow, the other one needs to be bashed too.

Got to salute a magpie.

Volume must be on an even number.

Many, many more!

I'm also really particular about certain things. I have to have two pillows, one foam, one feathery. Then a V pillow on top, with a feather cushion on one side, a foamy cushion on the other side and a fleece blanket over my top half, quilt on the bottom.

Snowbelled · 17/01/2018 22:32

I can't tell if a hill is sloping up or down when driving. I have to take my feet off the accelerator to see what happens so I can work it out.

Many years ago I got curious as to whether I had any weird sleep habits, so I set up my laptop next to my bed and recorded myself sleeping. Turns out, several times a night, I stick my arms straight in the air and then spend some time stroking both my forearms. I mentioned this to DP years later, and he said, 'Oh yes, you still do that! If I'm awake I just gently push your arms back down.' Blush
