To not use the little fruit and veg bags

...at the super market that they provide at the end of the aisle?

DP has only just noticed I don't use them which he thinks is really weird.
I just think it's a waste of plastic if you wash your fruit and veg anyway.

Am I the only one?

Or take the paper bags near the mushrooms and put other fruit/veg in.

ArbitraryName · 16/01/2018 18:47

I don’t think I’ve ever used one in all my years shopping at supermarkets.

Whisky2014 · 16/01/2018 18:47

fuzzy ok very imaginative...but that's never happened to Me!

SuburbanRhonda · 16/01/2018 18:48

Thank you, leslie.

I’m more excited than you’ll ever know!

Trashboat · 16/01/2018 18:58

Net bags look brill. I will be buying some of them for sure.

Paper bags should be the standard.

I also don't like it when then put cauli's and cabbages in their own plastic bag, with the name of what it is, printed on the front of a bag. What a bloody waste of resources!

treeofhearts · 16/01/2018 19:01

People put their children in the trolley with shoes on or their dogs or their Sholley things with dirty wheels. Rats crawl all over them. It's disgusting to put food in them without any packaging.

DeStijl · 16/01/2018 19:02

Nope never use them. Have been tutted a few times by checkout people though Confused It doesn't need to be "kept together" in the trolley and I'm yet to dump a strange squash vegetable puree on the conveyor belt..

BusyBeez99 · 16/01/2018 19:03

I don't use either. Only use the paper bags for the mushrooms.

TheUglyFive · 16/01/2018 19:04

I use muslin cloth bags when I need to use them (mushrooms, sprouts), otherwise no bags.

BusyBeez99 · 16/01/2018 19:05

Same with the bread rolls - wish they had paper bags by there not the plastic ones :-(

mellongoose · 16/01/2018 19:07

Haven't used them in about 10 years.

One of my New Years resolutions is to cut down on as much single use plastic as possible. Am currently looking into finding a milkman, am washing body and hair in soap (but still use conditioner), use a proper mug when all others are using disposables. It's hard, but not impossible to make changes.

Those little bags are a bloody waste.

Elphame · 16/01/2018 19:07

I take my own cotton bags - I have one I keep for rolls etc, the rest get used for fruit and veg. I fail to understand why they don't provide paper ones nowadays

claraschu · 16/01/2018 19:08

I never use them if i can avoid it. I am so glad that other people are making an effort to cut down on wasted plastic.

scaryteacher · 16/01/2018 19:09

They've started introducing the biodegradable plastic bags in my local Carrefour, which means the bags can go in the recycling or veg/fruit waste bin.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 16/01/2018 19:10

People put their dogs in shopping trolleys?! I've genuinely never seen that. Are they even allowed in supermarkets?

Given that the food comes out of the soil, which is full of bacteria, and then is stored in warehouses where rats probably run all over the place, I really cannot get worked up about it. I wash my fruit and vegetables thoroughly before I use them.

I personally think it is more disgusting that we waste so much plastic.

BigBaboonBum · 16/01/2018 19:10

I bring my own net bags! Plastic ones just frustrate me

babymouse · 16/01/2018 19:10

I don't use them either

Aridane · 16/01/2018 19:10

Hey, treeofhearts, I use them too!

EatTheChocolateTeapot · 16/01/2018 19:11

Reusable shopping bags are dirty, they contain E. Coli and loads of other bacterias. I use the plastic bags and then reuse them as dog poo bags.
Paper or fabric is not necessarily more environmentally friendly than plastic. Cotton for example takes a lots of water and pesticides to grow, making cotton fabric bags not so environmentally friendly.

RaininSummer · 16/01/2018 19:12

Rarely use them. Far too much worry about possible dirt and germs as most fruit and veg is either peeled, washed or boiled.

MikeUniformMike · 16/01/2018 19:12

I use them for sprouts. Mushrooms keep better in a paper bag.
Otherwise it just goes in the basket.

ArcheryAnnie · 16/01/2018 19:13

I don't use them either - they are just a waste, especially for things like baking potatoes or apples. They are fine in the basket or trolley by themselves!

treeofhearts · 16/01/2018 19:14

No they are not allowed in but people still bring them in and sit them in the trolleys. They just whinge oh he's only little, he'll sit in there, if challenged.

starfishmummy · 16/01/2018 19:15

I have my own onya mesh bags. For small items but mostly I don't bother. On the very rare occasion I do have to use one of the plastic ones, I keep it to reuse

ArcheryAnnie · 16/01/2018 19:16

Reusable shopping bags are dirty, they contain E. Coli and loads of other bacterias.

Eh? I wash mine - they are the nylon ones which stuff into a little pouch, and they wash and dry in a trice.
