It’s getting this ridiculous. Jess Phillips, a Labour MP (and others) is being harassed by well known writers and activists. Why do I keep thinking of Big Brother and the McCarthy hearings?

I’ve always been left leaning - I’m really struggling with the bullying and intolerance which seems endemic these days. WTF is going on?

To think we will soon be required to make this pledge ir face re education?

"ir face re education?" ???

Thanks for today's trans thread though. I'm definitely all peaked and shit!

bambambini · 16/01/2018 15:23

Me too. Glad you agree.

Great and ir face re education you too.

It’s outrageous isnt it. I wonder if Phillips will reply and if she gets any support.

Haven't a clue what your thread title is supposed to mean

TeenTimesTwo · 16/01/2018 15:38

Title is presumably meant to say or face re-education like in the days of the revolution in China or in 1984 where if you didn't 'conform' in your thinking you needed re-education.

Sorry, i thought the attached pic would explain. Jess Phillips is being targetted and pressured to make a statement on the validity of “Transwomen being women”. It’s a smaller point in a current push from some activists/labour members for labour members to be expelled from the party if they don’t accept that “transwomen are women”. Originally it was worded as those members “who are found to be transphobic” (which is pretty wide reaching) - to an MP (Phillips) being targetted to actually now make a specified statement to prove she isn’t a bigot.

I find this development quite worrying but unfortunately not surprising.

It seems a little like Labour's race to be unoffensive and inclusive at all costs is biting them on the arse.

The political right would happily tell the tweeter to get to fuck.

It's harder for die-hard liberals to manage this through mouthfuls of the Guardian and tofu.

You might want to ask HQ to amend the title OP as i think it's an interesting and important link, and more people might click on it that way? Thanks for highlighting it.

bambambini · 16/01/2018 16:08

That "suggested template" is bloody ridiculous. Trans women are trans women, they are not women, just like trans men are trans men and not men.

It's interesting to me that there is a huge amount of demanding access to women only spaces and calling women cis-women from trans women, but not a peep from trans men demanding access to men only spaces or calling men cis-men.
