Can you die from a UTI?

I can't get a GP appointment until Friday and ooh can't get me an appointment tonight as they're fully booked.

I've got serious back pain, it burns when I pee, but the last few drops are so so sore and in the loo the last drops are just blood.

I have a temperature of 38.9 after paracetamol, I have a cough now and just generally feel like shite! I'm also starting to feel a bit sick. I'm drinking to try and flush all the crap out but it hurts :(

I know I'm overreacting but I genuinely thought OOH might be able to help.

Go to A&E please. I was in the out of hours because of a UTI last night.

The dr was quite concerned, and I’d only had symptoms for 6-8 hours...

The flank pain, slight temperature and feeling sick are all symptoms which a 111 assessment would rate quite high... I had a disposition that I needed to be seen by a healthcare provider within 6 hours. Please call them back and accept nothing less than this.

My symptoms weren’t as bad as I didn’t have the flank pain, and the Drs told me if I get it I am to get medical attention as quick as possible.

Please don’t leave this,

Feel better soon.... there’s a thread from yesterday the post is named fuck is this hell thrush? .... was me, lots of advice on there though. Someone said pee with the shower on your bits- it truly helps!

Sullabylullaby · 15/01/2018 22:21

Hope you get some relief soon.

toughasnails · 15/01/2018 22:21

25 % of all sepsis cases is from UTIs.
Get yourself seen asap

Elmwood30 · 15/01/2018 22:22

I have had kidney infections twice before, both from trying to self treat a UTI. I was unable to get an appointment with normal doctor. First time I was given an emergency appointment at a doctor near my place of work as I fainted and second time I rang NHS24 who sent me to out of hours clinic. Both times I was at work (ridiculous!) but had been told off by the doctor for leaving it so long! ( didn’t say it was because I couldn’t get an appointment!!)

Shhhhhh2018 · 15/01/2018 22:24

Good luck!

greathat · 15/01/2018 22:26

Hope you get well soon!

ScienceNut · 15/01/2018 22:28

Hospital now,

How you describe feeling is me 1 hour beforebeing blue lighted and in for 4 days.

Hope you get better soon

BakewellTart01 · 15/01/2018 22:29

I agrew with PP. Just a few weeks ago my UTI spread to my kidneys, which spread to my blood. I was very lucky and was in the hospital when my sepsis was picked up.
When i arrived in A&E, i was sent by GP, i had symptoms of a severe kidney infection but not of sepsis. Within 3 hours of being on the ward i rapidly declined and sepsis was picked up.

I too was able to post on MN with a severe infection. In fact i started a thread about being on my 3rd antibiotics and still being ill/in pain and when to go to hospital. Please dont second guess yourself. I have been ill for 6 weeks now, simply as i was too concerned with self treating a UTI which then spread

Dipitydoda · 15/01/2018 22:30

Utis are a common cause of sceptacemia. Also if it’s potentially infected your kidneys it needs treating

JustVent · 15/01/2018 22:34

Good for you OP.

Pissing hedgehogs is the worst.

SimonBridges · 15/01/2018 22:34

I had that once when I was young and stupid.

Almost exactly as you describe. I have got blocked fallopian tubes. I have no idea if the two are related but I do know that I have tested negative for all the STDs that usually cause scars in your tubes and they have no idea what caused it.

CaledonianQueen · 15/01/2018 22:39

I was hospitalised in October/ November last year after a severe UTI travelled to my kidneys, caused a severe kidney infection, which turned into septicemia causing my body to go into septic shock. I am only still here because of the efforts of a fantastic team of Doctors and nurses.

Any infection has the potential to cause septicemia (read the recent thread on septicemia)! My wedding planner died after delaying treatment for tonsillitis, she left an 8-year-old son. Never take infections lightly. Your body most certainly has a raging kidney infection! The symptom that made my DH call out of hours was my body stopped producing urine and hours later my catheter bag filled with thick blood. In my experience if you have septicemia you will know, you will feel that your body is dying. Good luck op, I hope you have caught the infection early enough that you don't need admission to hospital.

Fullerhouse · 15/01/2018 22:41

Glad you’ve got an appointment op Flowers

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 15/01/2018 22:46

I had a kidney infection from a uti and the pain was something else. I was staying with a relative and didn't know the area, she had to bundle me into her car still in my pjs to docs for antibiotics - I hope you get some help soon

CappuccinoCake · 15/01/2018 22:49

Hope you are okay. My mum was hospitalised from sepsis from a UTI.

Skyechasemarshalontheway · 15/01/2018 22:49

I hope you are seen soon.

RidingWindhorses · 15/01/2018 22:52

OP you don't say when this OOH appt is. Is it tonight?

If not I think you should go to A&E tonight, I've had a kidney infection sounds very similar - and as people say it can turn to sepsis very quickly.

SocksRock · 15/01/2018 22:52

My dad spent 16 days on HDU last year and now has a colostomy bag after a UTI spread to his bowel. He would have died had he not been in hospital.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 15/01/2018 22:54

Go to hospital. I had a UTI that spread to my kidneys. Very nasty it was.

nousername123 · 15/01/2018 22:55

You can become delusional and confused from a severe UTI. Go to A&E x

RidingWindhorses · 15/01/2018 22:56

Also is this OOH appt near a hospital - because they may very well send you to A and E with those symptoms. You need to factor that possibilty in.

RidingWindhorses · 15/01/2018 22:56

And don't try to drive get a lift or a cab.

pinkhorse · 15/01/2018 22:57

Good luck op

Frillyhorseyknickers · 15/01/2018 22:57

Hope you manage to get seen. I left mine and it turned into a kidney infection! Painful
