... to feel disgusted at fox-chasing toff-twits!

On my way to a local town for lunch today, we had to slow down and stop as a horse came galloping up towards us in the middle of the road. On his back sat a dandified twit who was looking for his hounds. In the nearby field some 100 (I kid you not) other starched twits sat on brainwashed horses with hungry hounds running amok. Traffic swayed and stopped as these twits had clearly lost the little sense they had and were dispersing all over the highway, horses looking dazed at being led among cars at great speed on slippery tarmac. Hounds confusedly sniffing all over the road and verges. How much had these twit-toffs drunk? It was not yet noon!

My friends in our car tried to calm me down saying it must be a drag when all of a sudden a poor defenseless fox jumped on the dry-stone wall looking wild-eyed as it tried to determine whether he was safer making a run for it across a busy road or turn back into a field of crazed, uncontrolled hounds and drunken (British?) twits. The fox froze and the driver of my car sped on as I screamed with panic for the predictable fate of the fox.

Why the f*ck is a supposedly civilized country allowing this kind of savagery to continue?

"but hunts rarely catch foxes "

That's the lie.

Is there an anti Sab group one can donate to?

VivaLeBeaver · 14/01/2018 13:57

www.huntsabs.org.uk

They take donations.

BertrandRussell · 14/01/2018 13:57

It’s not a class war thing for me. I belong to the class traditionally on the horses- occasionally even in scarlet.

BertrandRussell · 14/01/2018 13:59

“Anti hunt people. I challenge you to make an order of types of animal killing from the worst to the least worst, with reasons based on animal welfare.”

Why?

DullAndOld · 14/01/2018 13:59

she said 'anti sab'..:)

bestthings · 14/01/2018 14:00

If fox hunting was a sport for the working classes we can be assured it would have been banned years ago. That other barbaric sport, cock fighting was outlawed years ago, both equally vile, but that was a sport for the peasants. One law for them.... always been the same.

UrsulaPandress · 14/01/2018 14:02

Hare coursing. Still goes on. And Lamping.

DullAndOld · 14/01/2018 14:02

I don't agree bestthings. I think that fox hunting was "banned" by the Blair administration in order to curry the votes of 'the working class' and to divert attention from foreign policy. Just a thought.

VivaLeBeaver · 14/01/2018 14:04

Police round here throw a lot of resources at catching hare coursers. There are often arrests reported. They have quad bikes and now use drones as well.

But with hunting they come out to make sure the hunters and sabs don’t fight but turn a blind eye to any illegal fox killing. When told about it by the sabs they shrug and say it was an accident.

VivaLeBeaver · 14/01/2018 14:05

I don’t see the police using their drones to follow a hunt and gather evidence for a prosecution. Hunters would probably complain that the horses might be scared and police will say ok, we won’t do it. Can you imagine if a hare courser said don’t use the drone, it might scare my dog!

DullAndOld · 14/01/2018 14:07

ye but viva a scared horse is a bit more serious than a scared dog tbh, in terms of safety.

VivaLeBeaver · 14/01/2018 14:08

I guess. But you’d have thought they could have the drones high enough up to not be an issue. The ones they use on Hunted tv show are fairly quiet as well.

Rebeccaslicker · 14/01/2018 14:09

Sittin - um, if you knew my background, you'd definitely describe me as "posh".

The only one of my close friends who used to be very keen on hunting was a girl I worked with who was from a very working class council estate. She got into it because she had a weekend job working in a stables. She's since changed her mind and thinks it's cruel as hell.

DullAndOld · 14/01/2018 14:11

no, viva , it would be an issue..

mustbemad17 · 14/01/2018 14:14

Even when proof is provided the police are wary of getting involved. Personally i am hoping that what has happened at the CHAT will set a precedent for out of control hounds, but we shall see

Rebeccaslicker · 14/01/2018 14:17

What a delightful tradition it is:

derxa · 14/01/2018 14:27

Why does there have to be such cruelty? What a drama queen!
I'm rural and don't like hunting. We don't have a hunt here anyway. OP I think it's best that you and your monied friends stay in town. The country is not for you with its horrid beastliness.

VivaLeBeaver · 14/01/2018 14:34

derxa’s post nicely demonstrates why early on I talked about my background and growing up in a hunting community. Otherwise if you disagree with hunting many Hunt supporters will just sneer at you for being a townie and not understanding country ways. Hmm

crazycatgal · 14/01/2018 14:41

How is describing a fox being ripped to shreds as cruel make someone a drama queen? It is cruel. Hmm

BertrandRussell · 14/01/2018 14:41

It’s bizarre how some people just can’t get their heads round country people-particularly “posh” country people being anti hunting......

mustbemad17 · 14/01/2018 14:43

There must be a fair chunk of country folk against hunting, judging by the whinging i've seen about them witholding permission to hunt on private land 😆

derxa · 14/01/2018 14:44

I don't agree with hunting. But nature is red in tooth and claw. I always laugh at how much people want to murder rats and other 'undesirable' creatures on here.

derxa · 14/01/2018 14:45

Foxes rip lambs to shreds. I bet that's fucking fun for them.

BertrandRussell · 14/01/2018 14:47

Derxa- I don’t think anyone is saying foxes shouldn’t be controlled.

BigBaboonBum · 14/01/2018 14:49

It’s a regular thing around here for red coats and their dogs to come out, usually about 50 at a time and about 20 dogs at a guess. They all tip their hats and thank you for slowing for them to pass, very polite always... until you realise what they’re actually doing and it makes you feel sick.

However the whole horse riding thing somebody mentioned, horse riding isn’t cruel. Horses that don’t like being ridden are simply just not ridden because it’s unsafe, there’s lots of them
