... to feel disgusted at fox-chasing toff-twits!

On my way to a local town for lunch today, we had to slow down and stop as a horse came galloping up towards us in the middle of the road. On his back sat a dandified twit who was looking for his hounds. In the nearby field some 100 (I kid you not) other starched twits sat on brainwashed horses with hungry hounds running amok. Traffic swayed and stopped as these twits had clearly lost the little sense they had and were dispersing all over the highway, horses looking dazed at being led among cars at great speed on slippery tarmac. Hounds confusedly sniffing all over the road and verges. How much had these twit-toffs drunk? It was not yet noon!

My friends in our car tried to calm me down saying it must be a drag when all of a sudden a poor defenseless fox jumped on the dry-stone wall looking wild-eyed as it tried to determine whether he was safer making a run for it across a busy road or turn back into a field of crazed, uncontrolled hounds and drunken (British?) twits. The fox froze and the driver of my car sped on as I screamed with panic for the predictable fate of the fox.

Why the f*ck is a supposedly civilized country allowing this kind of savagery to continue?

Well the scenery and juvenile comments from some people here just reinforce the popular stereotype of those who hunt, that's for sure. And I haven't seen one person put forward a sensible argument for hunting.

Sittinonthefloor · 14/01/2018 12:41

The thing is that it is pointless debating it. If you've grown up hunting then it's a normal part of your life, you understand it, enjoy it and many people you know are the same. There's no point in me debating with someone who doesn't really understand hunting / the reality of country life and just labels me a psychopath! Added to that from my point of you anyone who owns a cat or isn't a vegan is a massive hypocrite anyway.

mustbemad17 · 14/01/2018 12:43

Just a cat? What about a dog? Or a snake 😃

SavvyFishFinger · 14/01/2018 12:45

Ha Ha OP

I'm calling you out. You made the whole thing up. Was the sun rising as you were driving to lunch, or was hidden behind a veil of mist? How was lunch anyway? Ha Ha.

crazycatgal · 14/01/2018 12:45

@Sittinonthefloor So according to your argument it's ok for someone to be racist or homophobic because they were brought up around it, and people who think that it is wrong just don't understand?

Your argument doesn't work.

SavvyFishFinger · 14/01/2018 12:46

The hunting loonies certainly have the support of a lot of self-righteous, language police....

OMFG.......my sides are splitting, splitting they are as I roll around the floor.

mustbemad17 · 14/01/2018 12:47

crazy careful, you'll be called out for having cat in your name!!

PoisonousSmurf · 14/01/2018 12:48

We have the hunt around here. Loads of cars turn up out of nowhere and park all over the verges, in the middle of the road (country road) and clog up everything, just because they want to catch a glimpse of a fox running for it's life.
Bloodthirsty c*nts!

PoisonousSmurf · 14/01/2018 12:50

Remember...Country folk like the 'Wicker Man'. Hunting is the tame side of it Wink

Sittinonthefloor · 14/01/2018 12:57

Crazycat - that's not the argument I was making. I was making the point that the two sides will never agree because they have a different opinion of what is 'right' and there ISNT a clear moral distinction that allows us as a society to come together in agreement.
E.g. Robbing, murdering, arson etc all clearly wrong.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/01/2018 12:59

I'm afraid you gave it away with the very first post including "dandified twits", "toffs" and so on

I don't like hunting either, but I've often thought the antis' real venom comes from a place of class hatred as much as anything else ... not so much a real sympathy for the dumb creatures as a hatred of "the toffs"

kennyFromTheBlock · 14/01/2018 12:59

"and I haven't seen one person put forward a sensible argument for hunting."

No one cares about the ginger fuckers except people with no understanding of why their population needs to be kept under control.

Virginia Beach (top 10 most dangerous in the world) is ranked so highly because of aggressive wild foxes.

Poisoning and shooting is less effective than hunting.

Sittinonthefloor · 14/01/2018 13:02

Oops posted too soon!
Prejudice / racism - now agreed to be wrong by us as a country.
Animal welfare - much more complex. I disagree with keeping big cats in zoos and much intensive farming- imo much crueler than hunting. And fishing - how is that different to shooting (or is it just that it's a 'working class') thing so therefore ok?
And keeping cats - they have terrible impact on wild birds, but many people keep them and happily let them roam free to, erm, hunt.

BertrandRussell · 14/01/2018 13:02

“Poisoning and shooting is less effective than hunting“

Evidence, please.

Fueledwithfairydustandgin · 14/01/2018 13:04

Sitting on the floor doesn't want to talk about hunting only about writing style Confused Hmm maybe you know it's barbaric and just want to continue to do it anyway? Just because something is traditional doesn't mean it should be allowed to continue. What are your views on badger baiting, dog fighting? What's your views on a group of chavs setting a staffie on a cat? At the end of the day you are breaking the law and why should you get to pick and chose what laws you have to abide by? All criminals could say that

Sittinonthefloor · 14/01/2018 13:06

So how do we sort out which types of animal killing are ok and which aren't? And what about rats and mice - killed in vast numbers but no one minds that because no one wants rats around! And what about shooting pigeons to stop them eating crops - is that ok?

BertrandRussell · 14/01/2018 13:09

I have no problem with culling vermin and controlling foxes. I do have a problem with hunting. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Batfurger · 14/01/2018 13:09

By my reckoning, 50% of MNers are outright liars. And 50% are trolls. Some of them must be the same people?

I’ve rarely read such opinionated, ill-informed and uneducated shite as on this thread. But hey, why would you need to know anything anout a topic to smear your opinion all over the internet.

Sittinonthefloor · 14/01/2018 13:09

Fuelled - I don't actually go hunting btw. But I do find the way people categorise some types of killing as worse than others very interesting. Why is hunting more barbaric than battery farming? Objectively, and without giving animals false human emotions.

kennyFromTheBlock · 14/01/2018 13:10

BertrandRussell

How do you suggest culls or management take place?

BertrandRussell · 14/01/2018 13:12

“How do you suggest culls or management take place?“

What of?

Sittinonthefloor · 14/01/2018 13:23

Animals who's numbers need managing:
Rats, pigeons, mice, deer, foxes, probably badgers, grey squirrels, rabbits. Some of these are introduced and damage native flora / fauna, some need managing because they no longer have natural predators (bears, wolves) and / or their habitat has been vastly reduced.
Many people don't realise that our landscape is almost entirely managed with almost no true 'wild' countryside. The landscape we love is a human construct - and we need to take responsibility for continuing to manage it.

BertrandRussell · 14/01/2018 13:27

Whichever is the most humane, efficient means appropriate to the species. A clue. Not fox hunting.

mustbemad17 · 14/01/2018 13:29

Hang on, so now hunting does control the fox population? Which means that hunts who say they don't or accidentally kill foxes are lying then? So far we have seen that hunting is good vermin control....but hunts rarely catch foxes 🤔

mustbemad17 · 14/01/2018 13:31

We've also had that most hunt masters shoot the foxes first then let the dogs have them...but shooting foxes isn't a reliable method of population control.

I feel like i'm on a roundabout. Why don't people just come out & admit they like watching foxes get ripped apart
