How the hell could the Americans make this mistake?!

They announced an incoming missile alert for Hawaii which is in range for North Korean missiles. The mistake wasn't corrected for nearly 20 minutes according to the BBC.

But a nuclear strike is survivable for the majority.

That's quite a sweeping statement with many variables that it's hard to say.

Probably because, ime, quite a lot of American people are very thick. Can’t speak for all of them, just 99% of the ones I have met.

Lots of money, guns, technology but they still fail to get it right and I’m never sure they are the full shilling to be honest.

There I said it.

Idontevencareanymore · 14/01/2018 00:49

How utterly terrified must they have been in that time!
I mean even hints of one of those maniacs pushing a button scares me to read, getting a text telling me missile incoming? That would have left me hysterical.

This isn't a laughing matter all the time it's a very real possibility. Imagine thinking you're going to die, looking at your family and what goes through your mind...... horrifying.

PerkingFaintly · 14/01/2018 00:53

And what a waste of pixels it was, Purple.

Unless you're just here to be a goady fucker. Like a surprising number of people on this thread.Hmm

Lilyhatesjaz · 14/01/2018 00:57

If you think this wouldn't happen in Britain look up nuclear siren Plymouth 19th December. The incident didn't seem to make the national news.

BattleCuntGalactica · 14/01/2018 00:58

America is basically a terrible reality TV show now. Sadly they voted for the marmalade faced wankchariot, so this is the stupidity they got.

Kursk · 14/01/2018 01:01

MarmaladeIsMyJam

I can certainly grasp how scary this must have been.

However I am a Prepper, and I have spent many hours researching this topic. DH works in the nuclear industry and has a in depth knowledge of radiation.

I guess you are attracted to people like you.

Thanks purple I am American I certainly Don’t think I am thick.

Charolais · 14/01/2018 01:11

It wasn’t Americans who made the mistake, it was one person.

Ladybirdbookworm · 14/01/2018 01:16

If I recall didn't something similar happen in Japan a few months ago ?

squoosh · 14/01/2018 01:18

Sadly they voted for the marmalade faced wankchariot, so this is the stupidity they got.

Some of them did. More voted for Hillary 'oh but her emails. Women are too emotional to be Pres' Clinton.

I have nothing but sympathy for those Americans who didn't vote for this racist fucker.

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 14/01/2018 01:21

Of course you’re a prepper.

What would you do if you were away from home?

Skowvegas · 14/01/2018 01:24

I have nothing but sympathy for those Americans who didn't vote for this racist fucker.

Thank you. Some of us worked really hard to try not to let him get into power. It's been a shitty year and three more to go.

vwlphb · 14/01/2018 01:28

Yes, @kursk I am fascinated to know what advice you’d give my friends who were enjoying their summer holidays overseas when they received notice that they possibly had a few minutes left to live. Confused

Charolais · 14/01/2018 01:31

@doris talking of mistakes, which country elected Trump? Britain didn't do a great job at times but at least our PM isn't a senile, misogynistic moron who is showing signs of dementia according to some

You seem the type of person who spends too much believing unfounded bullshit and disregarding facts.

Trump is not a moron, senile, misogynistic and neither does he have dementia. Even before he was our president, he was a billionaire who creates thousands of jobs and puts women in top jobs.

He refused to what the locals tried to make him do at his Florida golf course and ban Jews and blacks. He told them he would not build there if he was going to be forced to ban jews and blacks. They never told you that did they?

Since he become our president he has brought American companies back to these shores to once again manufacture in America. His tax cuts are creating new jobs and major companies are giving their employees, even the lower level ones, thousands of $ in bonuses. Dem leader Nancy Pelosi called these bonuses “crumbs”. Also we have record highs on Wall Street.

We finally have a president to wants to follow the law as far as our borders go. Things are going to get even better for us in the next three years. Hopefully Trump will get re-elected in 2020.

squoosh · 14/01/2018 01:33

Keep sippin' the crazy Kool Aid Charolais, ya kook.

Pawpainting · 14/01/2018 01:43

This has nothing to do with Trump though does it? But hey, a great excuse to bash him and the stupid Americans eh?

Not a fan of trump myself but the fact that many on here can't muster some empathy for the million+ people who thought they were about to die and even make jokes about it is disturbing to say the least. Lots of these people are going to be severely traumatised ffs

brizzledrizzle · 14/01/2018 01:46

You seem the type of person who spends too much believing unfounded bullshit and disregarding facts.

Hahaha, love it. Just the kind of thing I'd expect a Trump supporter to say. Have you got any more gems like that for us? Grin

If I am away from home or if you are out in the open get away from buildings to avoid flying glass. Find a ditch or depression to lie in a ditch, cover exposed skin in light coloured clothing or dive into a river or lake to try and minimize you skin exposure to the blast.

After the detonation put distance between yourself and ground zero. Wash yourself to remove radiation try to stay clean. Only eat from sealed food containers.

I am not saying that you are garenteed to survive but there are things you can do to improve your chances. One of the Hiroshima survivors was in the building directly under the detonation.

squoosh · 14/01/2018 02:02

It's been a shitty year and three more to go.

Do you think he will last until the end of his term? Either Mueller will catch up with him or the giant man child will try and walk away from the job.

BitterLittlePoster · 14/01/2018 02:04

They never told me Trump is the heroic champion of "The Jews and The Blacks" either, Charolais and I'm American. You've probably got some links for that, I'm sure. And links for which companies are now manufacturing in America again. Please do share.

I don't buy that someone pressed the wrong button either. It would happen way more often if it was that easy.

Purple567895678956789 · 14/01/2018 02:09

Have seen a lot on social media from liberal Americans getting behind Oprah for 2020 as the best person available out of many to challenge Trump. As in Oprah the chat show host.

No comment except: god bless america.

Marmite17 · 14/01/2018 02:20

I wonder if there is any point in mass e mails if there is no shelter anyway. From what I've read Finland and Switzerland are the only countries with nuclear shelters. The same thing did happen fairly recently in Japan and they have drills.
Would it be economically viable to have effective shelters? Plus, without meaning to sound cold, there are many more likely causes of death eg cancer, traffic accident.
Can't imagine how these people felt. I was traumatised just watching When the Wind Blows. Plus the pictures of Nagasaki; present day bombs could be 8 times as powerful.
Just horrible; hope the people in Hawaii get over this.

Marmite17 · 14/01/2018 03:01

A nuclear strike is not survivable for the majority! Look at the stats for Nagasaki and Hiroshoma. It may be better with community drills but you couldn't live your life waiting for an imminent disaster which may or may not happen; agree with Marmalade. Even after the bomb a massive radius would remain radio active; water, food, air. Plus there would be fall out from dust.
It would be game over for most apart from some on the out skirts.
