Primark PJs destoyed my sheets!

I don't normally wear pyjamas in bed but I've been plagued by insomnia and having a regular bedtime routine was suggested - a relaxing bath then taking some time to wind down. Not wanting to traumatise DS and his friends with the sight of me in my nightdress, nor for the cat to use my bare legs as a pin cushion, a couple of months ago I decided to buy some PJs in Primark to wear post bath before bed.

They were great. They looked fantastic, a plain black jersey V-neck top with wide leg pants with velvet trim. They were comfy. They washed well, no need to iron them, they came out of the washing machine creaseless. My legs have not been scratched to pieces and no one has been blinded by my white legs. All good.

Until this week... I've spent the week home alone in bed with flu. With no one else to tackle the laundry mountain, after several sleepless, sweaty nights, I was out out of clean nightwear so I resorted to wearing the Primark pyjamas in bed. The next morning, my beautiful white 1200 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets had been turned into a filthy looking, grey stained mess Angry

I've tried washing them with colour run remover but it's done nothing Sad The stained part is still grey. Not just a bit grey, the same colour as DS's actual grey bedsheets.

AIBU to think that pyjamas that you can't actually wear in bed without staining your sheets aren't fit for purpose? Angry Angry Angry

I love Primark pjs, although I could afford a more £££ pair, I can’t get enough of the £5 long nightie tops. I wear with bottoms though, never had a problem.
To a pp who spoke about glitter ones though, yeah I had that with the mermaid leg ones! I washed a couple of times on their own to get rid of the glitter Grin
OP get some Milton or bleach it should get the stain out, also complain to Primark as it sounds like you got a duff pair

TheFairyCaravan · 13/01/2018 20:30

I’ve bought loads of Primark pyjamas and never experienced this.

I iron my pyjamas too. I can’t stand anything creased against my skin, it drives me mad.

Twoo · 13/01/2018 20:37

For those questioning ‘who bleep bleep irons pjs’.

I do. I like the restored smoothness against my skin and crease free look!

Fairylea · 13/01/2018 20:45

How strange! I only ever buy primark pjs as I find them so comfortable and I’ve never, ever had this issue.

TheFirstMrsDV · 13/01/2018 20:56

You may have got some from a dodgy dye batch.
My mate works in the fabric trade and a lot of her work is sorting out dye testing.
Most deep dyed clothing comes with a warning about dye transfer on the label.

It makes me laugh when people get snitty about Primark's quality. Its better than a lot of high street stuff. Top Shop and River Island spring to mind.
Most shops source their gear from all over the place so the quality is hardly ever uniform anymore.
I would rather spend less in a shop with a lower markup than ££££ in s shop making a huge profit on the same level of quality.

newnamenewnamenewname · 13/01/2018 21:18

Who the fuck irons pjs?

Not me! Grin Hence my appreciation of this quality! And awe... Most things come out of my washing machine looking like origami.

I think I have discovered the culprit. It's the velvet trim. I bought the matching all velvet dressing gown to hide my bingo wings from visitors but I haven't worn it yet. There is a warning on the dressing gown label (but NOT the PJs): "Colour may transfer on to other garments and upholstery".

FFS the name of the range is "Love to Lounge". How the hell am I supposed to lounge in my dressing gown if I can't sit down in it without leaving a black smudge Angry. And what the hell is an entire dressing gown of the stuff going to do to my sofa if a tiny bit of trim turned my sheets grey??!

Thanks for the tips. I have already tried Dylon colour run. I am currently soaking the sheets in Milton fluid and the white vinegar is waiting if that doesn't work.

I've also called the store who said to bring them in to show the manager. I can't face Oxford Street at 9pm on a Saturday night though. Nor could Oxford Street face me in my current grumpy, flu ridden, snotty nosed state Grin

however i dont also have fancy sheets

Figrollsnotfatrolls · 13/01/2018 21:24

My Primark sparkly bottoms made our bed a glitter boudoir! Dh had a glow in the dark sparkling penis!!

abbsisspartacus · 13/01/2018 21:25

Dye the sheets

LittleTalks · 13/01/2018 21:29

OP this happened to me with a pyjama top from primark. The dye transferred onto my skin, I got dressed in the dark and when I took off my new nude silk bra it was a horrible blue grey colour! I emailed primark and they sent an envelope to send the products to them. They transferred me money for the bra and a primark voucher for the top and rounded it up to 30 quid. So you don’t have to brave oxford st!!

MsHomeSlice · 13/01/2018 21:33

and this is why I have navy sheets.....not so much for the PPP (Primark Pj Problem) but for the YSH (YellowStainingHusband) issue

That and a large vat of either vinegar spray or "Shout!" to spritz his side of my beautiful toile de jouy duvet cover with pre laundering seems to deal with the worst of it.

I do wonder if I could cut out the middle man and get him to spritz himself with the laundry stuff in the shower, but he is not keen.

LOL Grin Grin Grin my NSTBXH was a YSH Envy

My beautiful, formerly white, fancy schmancy sheets were a joyous gift from my mother after I got rid of him and his filthy sweat stains.

The first sign he was cheating was when I came home to find he had bought new black sheets and made the bed for the first time ever. The second sign was the white stains on the black sheets... Envy Envy Envy Black might have hid his grubby nightsweat marks from the OW but it highlighted the ahem other stains...

OP, if the Milton doesn't sort it try Napisan powder (about £3 from the supermarket). MN tip that I tried for horribly stained whites. They are now gleaming!

newnamenewnamenewname · 13/01/2018 23:08

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh! Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry

The Milton fluid hasn't worked. Even worse, I noticed a mark on the other side, rubbed it, and it turned into a hole. A HUGE MASSIVE HOLE. Then I noticed another tear. Then another tear. There is a whole thin patch on one side.

So if I complain to Primark now, they will probably argue that the sheets were falling apart anyway so the stain is immaterial Hmm

If I complain to John Lewis that the sheets are falling apart already (I have other sets that have lasted decades, this one is barely a year old), they will probably take one look at the stain and assume that I have used and abused them Hmm

I usually shove a cup of bleach in my white bedding wash, seems to keep it bright and I wear primark night shirts.

WelshMoth · 14/01/2018 00:19

Do you moisturise OP? Some body creams have quite a high almond/jojoba oil content which may 'loosen' the dye? Is this a possibility?

gingerclementine · 14/01/2018 00:21

I always buy Primark PJs. And often work in bed in them. And this has never happened. Bit odd.

BlondeB83 · 14/01/2018 00:37

M&S next time! Wink

Lilyhatesjaz · 14/01/2018 00:47

I haven't had any trouble with my primark nightys but my sheets are blue so probably wouldn't show up dye.
I washed all my bath and pedestal mats last week and now they are all a pale pink except the bright pink one from the downstairs loo.

WhyteKnyght · 14/01/2018 00:51

I would try asking JL for an exchange. A dye stain shouldn't make holes or thin patches in a sheet under 12 months old so surely the sheet is faulty. And their customer service is really reasonable, unlike some.

hollowtree · 14/01/2018 00:51

I live in Primark pyjamas, and I'm hugely sweaty and literally never had this problem.

If you can even call it a problem.

Also no one irons pyjamas

hollowtree · 14/01/2018 00:54

Apologies for my previous bitchy comment. Me and the DH have have had a row. It's not you or your pyjamas fault and I am sorry.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 14/01/2018 01:03

Lovingly stroke my 10 year old white with bright pink flower pattern Brentford Nylons charity shop bargain sheet 🌸
