He was fixing the window and asked if I wanted hooks for net curtains. Was he taking the piss/being sarcastic?

They are very old fashioned imo.

Why is a rod superior to a wire? Surely they don’t work on a bay anyway

It's not the rod that's superior. Old fashioned nets (the ones like doilies, IYKWIM) tend to use wire as they have a very narrow gap.

Voiles are just plain panels, not netting, and can go on a rod.

Though rods don't require holes in the window frame, so are superior that way.

We use them in a bay. We have 3 defined windows with a rod / voile on each.

I have a 5 windowed curved bay. It would look ridiculous :)

I am worried now! I have just put up new net curtains. Granted they do match but are my neighbours now talking about me? Will my children be mocked in school?

What are the alternatives? We have large plinths in our recesses and blinds will not hold.
