He will be 1 on the 27th but still not crawling. I have 2 older children and im not sure if they were crawling yet by now. I wasn't to worried but i took him to a play group today and babies his age were nearly walking and it got me worried.

I would try to encourage but to not be worried.

My friends little girl didnt crawl until 14 months and a week later started walking.

He's able to get himseld around but shuffling, rolling?

Do his siblings pass him things rather than him having to reach them?

ThisLittleKitty · 10/01/2018 00:18

Yes this would worry me. My 8 month old was crawling at 5 months.

kaytee87 · 10/01/2018 00:21

Does he bum shuffle? I would maybe be concerned enough to bring it up with my HV but wouldn't start to panic just yet.

thecatsarecrazy · 10/01/2018 00:22

He can get about. If i put him in one spot hes able to get to something that interests him. E.g he got under our coffee table the other day to try and get something from under it.

My youngest didn't crawl until a week after her 1st birthday but she was walking before she was 14 months.

She had two older siblings but was happy to just be cuddled and be near to her milk supply. I was quite glad to have her close with her being the youngest and she's a very energetic child now.

thecatsarecrazy · 10/01/2018 00:23

Im seeing a pediatric doc on Thursday. She sees him from time to time because he had a floppy larynx. I imagine it will come up then

I wouldn't worry too much then mine were early walkers (one 10 months and one 8 months) so 12 months to not even be crawling seems late to me but babies develope at their own pace but maybe mention it to the Hv if your really worried.

mmzz · 10/01/2018 00:24

Some babies never crawl. I didn't. (But I can walk, run , jump, hop etc.)

You could try crawling. She might try to copy you.

LouHotel · 10/01/2018 00:26

I honestly wouldnt worry about it. If he's alert and able to get around then he's developing.

You might find he'll start sofa surfin and go straight to walking. My DD2 never crawled where as DD1 did at bang on 6 months.

Graphista · 10/01/2018 00:27

Some never do, I rolled, bro bum shuffled, sis commando crawled but didn't baby crawl - we all developed fine after that.

I've also nannied/childminded babies that never/crawled late - again all fine.

thecatsarecrazy · 10/01/2018 00:28

Sorry meant she the doc sees him my son. Wrote that a bit strange. My eldest whos 10 now was walking at 15 months. I only remember because we had just moved house. Im not sure how long he had been crawling

Heartoffire · 10/01/2018 00:30

Of course it’s ok if he can actuality move around.

We had 3 crawlers all normal and around 6 months and then along came dc4! Sat about like a pudding until 11 months snd then literally jumped around. Sort of a bum shuffle but more a yogi fly. Immense. Didn’t walk until 2. Was county champion runner at 14. Her twin crawled.

Don’t worry

thecatsarecrazy · 10/01/2018 00:31

Thank you for reassurance. Its almost like being a first time mum again having a big gap. I worry about everything. Hes mod deaf and a teacher of the deaf visits him. She's happy with him and doesn't have any concerns.

Facelikeaslappedarse · 10/01/2018 00:33

Is he meeting his other milestones ok? I wouldn’t worry really.

ClaudiaD13 · 10/01/2018 00:34

I would mention it to his paediatrician. My son crawled at around 11 months and walked at 21 months. They are all different.

Heartoffire · 10/01/2018 00:39

Op my second sons best mate is moderately deaf. He is a registrar doing his training for consultant paediatrician. Just saying Wink

Italiangreyhound · 10/01/2018 00:59

@thecatsarecrazy it could be no real issue or it could indicate something.

I would speak to the doctor. Before the appointment I'd probably try putting a few things out of baby's reach and film any efforts to get to the items etc.

All best wishes, Thanks

OkPedro · 10/01/2018 01:07

From what I've seen and heard crawling is very important. I wouldn't dismiss ops worries because you didn't crawl or your aunties half cousin didn't crawl.

thecats Its definitely worth mentioning to the doctor and see what their opinion is..

BentleyBelly · 10/01/2018 01:09

No...my dd crawled at 13 months and walked at 19 months. Some just take a little longer to get there. I worried too and now regret not enjoying her staying put for longer!!

Plumsofwrath · 10/01/2018 01:12

My DD never crawled. She had suspected hip dysplasia and received PT for that (I don’t think it helped). She rolled around for a couple of weeks, cruised for a couple of weeks, then walked with a walker as though she had both legs in plaster casts.

Fast forward 5 years, she’s just received a commendation for her first ever dance recital.

I would get your DC checked out for any physical anomalies (although I imagine you would have noticed anything by now). If you get the all-clear, relax. It’ll happen.

DeadMorose · 10/01/2018 02:26

My DD didn’t show any signs of being interested in crawling even though we used to put her on all four and rock her. She just lied down on her tummy as soon as we let her legs go. And then at 11,5 months she suddenly got on her knees and hands and crawled really well. It’s like she didn’t want to try without being 100 per cent sure that she can do it.
Although tbf she used to roll over herself to get to the other side of the roomGrin

The same was with walking. She just stood up and walked one day.

Anyway, I wouldn’t be worried just yet. Some babies are just comfortable the way they are.

WilyMinx · 10/01/2018 02:40

My son didn't crawl before learning to walk at 14 months. Before, he would bum/belly shuffle and cruise.

notangelinajolie · 10/01/2018 02:50

Yes, I would be concerned. Speak to your health visitor or go and see your GP.

WeeM · 10/01/2018 02:58

Mine never crawled, just bum shuffled and then didn’t walk until she was 17 months so I wouldn’t worry if she is getting around.

WeeM · 10/01/2018 02:58

He sorry
