He will be 1 on the 27th but still not crawling. I have 2 older children and im not sure if they were crawling yet by now. I wasn't to worried but i took him to a play group today and babies his age were nearly walking and it got me worried.

Is he able to weight bear? Is he able to go on to his hands and knees? Does he spend time on his tummy? Those were the things my child's paed was concerned about at that age

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 10/01/2018 06:49

I’d ask the paediatrician about it but I don’t think I’d be worried enough to book an appointment over it just yet.

AnyFucker · 10/01/2018 06:55

He has a floppy larynx ? Sometimes thst can be associated with low tone skeletal muscles and these babies can be a bit delayed in anti gravity milestones. You may find he doesn't crawl at all but instead commando crawls or bottom shuffles. What age did he sit unaided ?

Mention it to the paeds doctor you are seeing. Has the health visitor done their assessment yet ?

crikeycrumbsblimey · 10/01/2018 07:06

Mine didn’t crawl till 14 months or walk till 17 months.

But he could ride a pedal bike by 4 years and his reading age at 5 and a half was 8 years.

He was just happy sat there!

Get the reassurance you need (especially if there are other things going on) but try not to worry too much yet.

thecatsarecrazy · 10/01/2018 07:07

I've been reading about floppy larynx babies being delayed but he's not flolly or appear to be lacking tone or anything. He's quite strong really he doesn't sit still on lap. He can get on all fours and start to wiggle. He's at the stage now where you put him down and he gets about 4 feet away somehow without crawling if that makes sense. Im off work this week normally my dh watches him during day and im trying to get him more mobile.

Crawling isn't counted as a developmental milestone, because not all babies do it.

If he can move himself around that's absolutely fine and normal. It's 18 months I think they flag up if they aren't walking by then but that's half his life away :)

my2bundles · 10/01/2018 07:20

Don't worry. My eldest crawled at 6 months and walked at 12. My youngest crawled at 12 months and walked at 19 months, by 20 months he was running and jumping and physically more able than the boasters babies who walked at 10 months. Now age 10 it makes no difference to anyone when he crawled, he s the most sporty and active child I know. Don't worry.

alotalotalot · 10/01/2018 07:21

Neither of mine ever crawled. Went straight to walking at the normal time.

LittleBird74 · 10/01/2018 07:21

I’d mention to the doctor maybe, but my son didn’t crawl or pull up until the week he turned 1, he didn’t walk until 19 months.
He seemed to focus all his energy on talking and at 6 that still hasn’t changed!!

DollyTots · 10/01/2018 07:23

My DD only started sitting at 10 months, crawling at 16 months, pulling up at 17 months & only started using her walker now nearing 18 months. There's absolutely nothing wrong with her. As long as you still see your baby progressing that's the main thing, even if it's slow. Otherwise yes, I'd be asking the HV

mnahmnah · 10/01/2018 07:28

My eldest, now 6, never crawled, only bum jumped. He didn’t walk until he was 19 months!!! BUT, absolutely nothing wrong with him.

GrumpyOldBagFace · 10/01/2018 08:07

Bum shufflers often don't crawl and are late walkers.

Non-mobile 12 month olds should be checked out though.

CorbynsBumFlannel · 10/01/2018 09:07

Keep an eye on it and speak to your he. My first didn't crawl at all and walked just after she was 1. The hv didn't seem concerned. My younger child who has additional needs crawled very early but was a later walker. Presumably because he could already get everywhere he wanted to go.

BarbarianMum · 10/01/2018 09:32

Crawling isn't a developmenntal stage precisely because some babies never crawl. Some roll, some bum shuffle and some (like my ds1) sit there like little puddings until they start pulling up and walking. So, not crawling (in isolation) is nothing to be concerned about.

Saladd0dger · 10/01/2018 09:40

My eldest 2 never crawled. They just got up and walked at 15 months. My youngest DD didn’t start crawling till 13 months and she’s literally just started walking at 20 months. My health visitor hasn’t been bothered at all and said it’s normal.

EggsonHeads · 10/01/2018 09:44

Some never crawl. My youngest barely crawled and went from crawling to dragging himself along while half crawling instead because it was quicker. Does he bum shuffle? How is his walking? Can he stand up holding a piece of furniture? What about other movements? Does he put his toes in his mouth or put legs into trousers? Anything like that?

Idontdowindows · 10/01/2018 09:46

My brother went from rolling to walking. He skipped the crawling part :) So no worries.

Mama05070704 · 10/01/2018 09:46

^^This

My eldest crawled at 12 months and walked at 17 months. I spent months worrying about it despite being told not to.

My DC is now 2.5 and is ahead with all milestones. It’s worth mentioning to you doctor or HV but try not to worry.

MsWanaBanana · 10/01/2018 09:49

My dd never showed any interest at all in crawling. She just started walking at 14 months.

ZoeWashburne · 10/01/2018 09:49

My DN never crawled- she just stood up one day and started toddling at just over 1.

If you lightly hold his hands will he bear weight on his legs?

moita · 10/01/2018 09:52

Sorry if I've missed this but has he had his one year check? The HV will hopefully be able to put your mind at rest, or refer him if needs be.

user1471506568 · 10/01/2018 09:58

I understand why you're concerned as crawling is one of the first big milestones and when everyone else's babies seem to have been doing it for ages it can make you worry. I think people's views on if it is something to worry about will be shaped by their own experience. If all your kids crawled at 6 months then a year old still unable to crawl will seem concerning. If however, your baby never crawled or crawled later then it will seem much more normal.

FWIW I have had an early and late crawler and wouldn't be concerned about a baby not crawling at a year if they are getting around and sound like they're very close to mastering it. Obviously mention it in the development checks and any other relevent appointments though just in case.

helpmum2003 · 10/01/2018 10:10

I wouldn't worry about this if it's the only issue.
My dd never crawled and only walked at 16 months - she was too busy absorbing language I think!!! She is physically completely normal - there's a wide range of normal development.
Mention it to the paediatrician when you see them and enjoy the fact that a non mobile child is much easier to manage!!

Soubriquet · 10/01/2018 10:13

My Dd was a bum shuffler...meant she didn't start crawling until she was 13 months.

She was bum shuffling from around 9 months so was quite delayed with that too.

When she finally crawled, she didn't cruise or walk until 18 months. On the day she turned 18 months exactly, she just got up and walked across the room as if she had been doing it forever.

Your little one will get there

user1494409994 · 10/01/2018 10:34

My son didn't crawl at all but got to his feet around his first birthday.
