Felt like having a lazy dinner tonight so brought an ASDA chicken and chirzo Alfredo pasta.. the temp was correct and yet after only 20mins the plastic was stating to melt!! AIBU to expect packaging to withstand cooking if that's what it's supposed to be used for!?

Is it a fan oven?

MrsHathaway · 09/01/2018 19:40

The instructions usually warn that the container will deform when hot but go solid again afterwards. That is why they have to go on a baking tray.

Nope

YANBU. I found this with my previous oven, and had to decant anything in plastic containers into ovenproof dishes. It doesn't happen with the oven I have now so I don't know whether the old one had developed an uneven temperature or 'hotspot' which was causing this. Have you tried using a different shelf?

Fekko · 09/01/2018 19:43

Yes it’s probably the heat of the food bending the plastic. I can’t get my head around shoving plastic containers into the oven!

It sounds nice, but can't say I fancy it right now
