A young black boy wearing a jumper that says -

“Coolest monkey in the jungle”

I genuinely can’t understand how anyone thought that was acceptable.

And yes, where are Mumsnet HQ? I guess a thread with all these silly people being all pearl clutchy about racism isn’t as worthy of their attention as threads with parking diagrams.

NotACleverName · 09/01/2018 21:05

This is the kind of post(er) I was referring to: shouty, self-righteous, unable to distinguish between racial insensitivity and deliberate racism

If you're not a PoC then you've got no right what-so-fucking-ever to tell someone who is, who has experienced racism, that they're being shouty and self-righteous.

Zarathrustra · 09/01/2018 21:06

I’ve experienced plenty racism ta

Coconutspongexo · 09/01/2018 21:07

Well stop telling others how they should feel then!!

Zarathrustra · 09/01/2018 21:07

Are we allowed to disagree any more?

Or just say yes to those who shout the loudest?

Zarathrustra · 09/01/2018 21:07

Where have I told anyone how to feel?

NotACleverName · 09/01/2018 21:07

Oh, and what's the difference between racial insensitivity and deliberate racism? Once again I am sure that some posters think you can only be racist if you're donning a white hood, burning crosses and lynching black people. Jesus fucking Christ.

Coconutspongexo · 09/01/2018 21:09

Read your posts.

Zarathrustra · 09/01/2018 21:09

Well i suppose if you don’t know what the word ‘deliberate’ means...

Coconutspongexo · 09/01/2018 21:09

Ah we’ve got ourselves a GF.

Zarathrustra · 09/01/2018 21:10

Dippingmytoesin

Read your posts.

Er. In none of them have I told anyone how to feel.

Please don’t make stuff up about me. Ta :)

burblish · 09/01/2018 21:11

Zarathustra: “This is the kind of post(er) I was referring to: shouty, self-righteous, unable to distinguish between racial insensitivity and deliberate racism”

Did you actually read the bit in my post where I said the ad was racially insensitive, Zarathustra? I didn’t say it was deliberately racist. In any event, is it only permissible to be offended by deliberate racism rather than “mere” racial insensitivity?

As for your question as to who says I’m wrong to be offended, please go ahead and RTFT - you will find plenty of examples of people who think this is basically just P(o)C gorn wrong.

PonderWoman · 09/01/2018 21:12

Racial insensitivity IS racism!

Coconutspongexo · 09/01/2018 21:13

You called a poster self righteous for posting about their experience you goady fucker.

Read it back TAR

Zarathrustra · 09/01/2018 21:14

I’d agree Burblish that the slogan/ad were astonishingly poorly chosen (I said that upthread), I’m not sure where I’ve said anything to suggest that anyone shouldn’t be offended about it (it’s not really my place to say what others should or should not feel)

PonderWoman · 09/01/2018 21:15

Judging by this thread, it is not surprising that far right is on the rise in the UK.

CherryMaDeara · 09/01/2018 21:17

Zarathrustra

Burblish clearly said the ad 'racially insensitive'. She didn't say it was deliberately racist.

The irony of you reprimanding burblish for her supposed inability to distinguish when you are clearly haven't read her post properly. Or you're deliberately mis-representing what she said.

PonderWoman · 09/01/2018 21:17

Was supposed to say..

Judging by this thread, it is not surprising that far right is on the rise in the UK. You can see them in action on this thread.

How so?

Zarathrustra · 09/01/2018 21:19

Yeah it’s things like accusing people of being ‘far right’ that make you seem shouty (and quite silly)

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 09/01/2018 21:19

I left this thread last night as some of the comments really offended me, I can't believe there are still people on here who don't get it....or maybe just purposefully using this thread to get their real feelings out.

quencher · 09/01/2018 21:21

Plenty of the determinedly dim on this thread will probably say it's just a loving fan who wants to ensure he reaches his 5 fruit and veg a day. Seriously! I am done. I can't take it. Best comment. Which means I can now bugger off. 😂 thanks.

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 09/01/2018 21:21

Zara You need to just stop now

downthestrada · 09/01/2018 21:22

MrsDoyles I suspect you might be right re. Getting their real feelings out.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 09/01/2018 21:23

How is an online post shouty?

She isnt even using caps

And ponder hasn't accused anyone of being far right...except the far right kne imagines
