AIBU to be think dogs (and cats) are uncannily perceptive to the point of spookiness. One dog I had used to press himself against my legs whenever I had a few stairs to climb. I used to get ratty and tell him off, until I realised he thought he was helping (I have walking difficulties). Another dog would sit squarely in front of any family member who was ill at the time, whenever someone knocked on the door. Just uncanny and brilliant, love 'em!

I'm fed up of GF's and was simply trying to start a nice thread for stories about
uncanny
dogs. If thread goes wrong, I'll ask for it to be removed.

What does GF mean?

Notevilstepmother · 08/01/2018 20:45

My dog knew if people were ill or upset.

GertrudeCB · 08/01/2018 20:46

I also have mobility problems and my ddog likes to go up the stairs in front of me then stand stock still so I can lean on him if I need to Smile

WhoWants2Know · 08/01/2018 20:47

Dogs are awesome. Some dog owners are jerks, but the dogs themselves are amazeballs.

LolaTheDarkdestroyer · 08/01/2018 20:48

Why mention gf's though you are just encouraging them pretty pointless thread title.

littlepeas · 08/01/2018 20:49

My dog is weird and aloof. I'm not convinced he gives a shit about any of us unless he thinks he might get some of whatever I'm eating! I still love him even though he's a bit of a dick.

SlartyFarkBarstard · 08/01/2018 20:49

When I went in to labour with my first child my two cats followed me all over the house, even in to the bathroom where they sat in the bath and waited for me.
When my mum arrived to take me to the hospital they went out as she came in, it’s like they knew I’d be ok now as an adult had arrived to babysit 🤗

Bubbaleo · 08/01/2018 20:49

In fact, could someone request this thread be removed please, bit naive and was hoping for too much. My report button isn't working for some reason? Thankyou.

what's gf?

GertrudeCB · 08/01/2018 20:51

Why get the thread removed op ? Confused

DenPerry · 08/01/2018 20:53

My cat lost her appetite a few months before my dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer, would only eat a couple of little dreamies biscuits per day.. then suddenly started eating properly again just after we got back from the funeral. She wolfed down two bowls and wanted more. It was like she had been worrying all that time and could finally relax.

TroysMammy · 08/01/2018 20:53

My cat Troy would come downstairs at 9.55pm and sit looking at me. When the News at Ten bongs would sound on the tv I would say "is it time for bed?" He would meow and we'd both go upstairs. He would watch me clean my teeth and then he would snuggle up with me on the bed.

Since he died from Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy at the age of 5 I don't go to bed until much later. I miss my furry alarm clock.

MotherOfDragons22 · 08/01/2018 20:54

Because you lot can be downright rude and mean when you want to be. Op just wanted to share nice stories. Always have to ruin it lately don't you guys?

GertrudeCB · 08/01/2018 20:56

Eh? How have I ruined a thread by adding to it ??

Yettilegs11 · 08/01/2018 20:57

GF = Goady F*ckers I think.

My dog is also a bit of a dick I think she thinks she is a cat and is forever walking in front of me on the stairs r in front of me. Maybe the ex is paying her in Bonio’s.

ColonelJackONeil · 08/01/2018 20:58

Change the thread title? I mentioned on another thread recently that my dog knew I was upset even though I was just sitting there quietly reading. She came and snuggled right up and sat on my lap for ages. She's quite a big dog on your lap about the size of a collie. She also knows if we have ordered a takeaway.

Yettilegs11 · 08/01/2018 20:59

*or walk

WhooooAmI24601 · 08/01/2018 20:59

Our dog is a bit of a fool (spaniel, came to us at 12 months, silly as anything but lovely with us) and I always thought her dog-dar (like radar but for dogs) was broken because she adores everyone.

But there's a relative of DH's who I cannot take to. We see her sometimes, spend time with her when we need to, there's just something about her that gives me an odd feeling in my stomach. Dog was with us on a day out recently and the relative was there, too. Dog will skip about and happily have fuss and curl up at the feet of everyone in the room except this one woman. Dog was sat at my feet and the woman walked past and Dog did the oddest kind of cower; she put her head between my legs, her tail was tucked under and she whimpered like she'd been hurt. She's only ever done it to this one relative and wouldn't let the woman near to her (she's a friendly, happy dog despite the stupidity). There's something about her, definitely, and Dog is either sensing it from the woman or picking up on how I feel, but either way she knows.

MrsMaxwell · 08/01/2018 21:01

My cat “supported” me through an unplanned pregnancy 16 years ago.

She is very old now and her health is failing and the thought of losing her is pretty devastating Sad

Bubbles121 · 08/01/2018 21:01

@TroysMammy I have a cat called Troy too! Currently sprawled over me and bites me if I try to move... He and his brother do wake me up every morning - usually by patting my mouth to make it clear it's food that they want. He doesn't do much to look after me though, but I've woken up more than once with a mouthful of fur as he's flopped down on my face.....

Shockers · 08/01/2018 21:04

Perhaps we could keep the thread, but amend the title?

I almost started a similar one earlier. My cat snuggles against the part of me that hurts. I’m on day 11 of a weird menopausal period and my abdomen is killing me. When I turned over, he went to the other side too. When I have a migraine, he lies around the top of my head, and he’s snuggled against my ear when I’ve had earache.

He’s just the best cat!

shockthemonkey · 08/01/2018 21:07

My late lamented DDog was amazing at this.

  • Stuck to me like glue when I broke my ankle
  • Sat squarely in front of a visitor during a yoga class, put her nose on visitor's nose and her front paw on visitor's shoulder -- visitor went quiet then burst into tears and told us she had just had a cancer diagnosed.
  • Came to me when she was feeling ill and sat in front of me, fixing me with her eyes and making very strange noises and actions to indicate she was unwell. This was such unusual behaviour that I took her to the vets next day to discover she had hepatitis.

Dogs are brilliant and cats too!

TroysMammy · 08/01/2018 21:07

When my DP was working away Troy would sit on my pillow "guarding" me and I would hold his paw as we slept.
