To ask for vacuum cleaner recommendations

Posting for traffic. I desperately need a new vacuum, currently using a Gtech multi to clean my whole house which is 1) killing the poor thing 2) killing me bending over 😂

I have about £200-250 to spend. What should I get? I just can’t decide!
Have carpet throughout the house apart from kitchen and bathroom. No pets at present but do have 2 DC so fair amount of debris created day to day

i have a dyson have liked them since they came out this is my third one, easy to use being an upright easy to empty but they are a bit on the heavy side to operate, but my carpets look ace when im done, other people will have other preferences, the best thing to do is look up different makes and look at the reviews on each one

Undisputed56 · 07/01/2018 12:02

What sort of Dyson do you have? I’ve been looking at the light ball upright as one of my options

Dyson is the rolls royce of hoovers

Anything else simply isnt as good

Jaffacakesinmypocket · 07/01/2018 12:07

A Shark, we bought one just before Christmas to replace the antique Dyson. It's amazing! Easy to do the stairs with the 'lift off' function.
I also bought a cheap handheld cordless which I use for whipping round when toddler DC is creating chaos and crumbs

FlexTimeCheekyFucker · 07/01/2018 12:08

Shark

haya130 · 07/01/2018 12:09

We have a shark lift away - have to say it's been amazing & much lighter than the Dysons I've had previously.
It's easy to do the stairs etc coz you are only holding a small portion of the hoover & it comes with a load of different attachments for other stuff like laminate floors, sofa's etc

jaseyraex · 07/01/2018 12:10

Shark. Absolutely better than any Dyson.

LotsOfLoveAndSarcasm · 07/01/2018 12:12

I have a Miele and it's absolutely great.

tava63 · 07/01/2018 12:14

Henry is great - long cord - and does a great job.

Fosterdog123 · 07/01/2018 12:16

Dyson are shit. Miele or shark.

HuckfromScandal · 07/01/2018 12:20

Shark
I would never have another dye on - they are the rolls Royce - in that they are big, clunky and show offy....
Sharks rule

SusannahD · 07/01/2018 12:20

I have just bought a shark to replace a old dyson. It’s really powerful much better than the dyson. I got the NV800uk model.

parklives · 07/01/2018 17:27

Another longtime user of Dysons who has moved to a Shark. I wanted something lighter weight and it's great, I much prefer it to the Dysons I've had.

Praisebe · 07/01/2018 17:29

The Shark Liftaway Duoclean NV800UKT
I have one and its a powerhouse the spinning brush at the front fluffs all the carpet up and dusts the hard floors

FlyingElbows · 07/01/2018 17:40

My Dyson is great for the 0.2% of the time that it's not clogged! Whoever designed a flat section where the hose meets the machine itself needs sacking. We have that and a handheld and I'd advise everyone to get one of those for quick everyday whizz rounds, they're brilliant. It's not a Dyson though!

CaptainHammer · 07/01/2018 17:43

I have a Shark too, far better than Dyson.

Tara336 · 07/01/2018 17:44

We have a cordless Dyson, never again! It drives us nuts with its constant problems

Willswife · 07/01/2018 17:50

If you want corded then a Sebo felix, if battery then a Shark.

I have had several Dyson's and after having both the above would never buy another one again. They're rubbish in comparison.

restingbemusedface · 07/01/2018 17:51

I hate my Dyson. I’ve just replaced it with a Vax (not suggesting that you get one as it’s well below your price bracket - but it is good) and definitely prefer it to the clunky heavy Dyson.

Coastalcommand · 07/01/2018 17:57

Shark here. Given away the dyson. It was rubbish by comparison.

londonrach · 07/01/2018 18:01

Can i give you one piece of advice....what ever you do dont buy a rubblish useless dyson! They not fit for purpose. My kind mil bought us a new one. Its been back and replaced once and still useless. I cant wait till it dies...

Xanadu46 · 07/01/2018 18:01

Just bought a shark cordless, brilliant, can't recommend it enough

WeAllHaveWings · 07/01/2018 18:11

I had a dyson for over 14 years, brilliant, but it passed away a couple of months ago. Naturally I went dyson again. Sent dh out and he came back with a light ball and tried it out. Previous dyson was very sturdy with metal tubes, good tools, the new one is like a child’s toy. If I had seen it in the shop I wouldn’t have bought it. Narrow Plastic tubes, thin plastic dirt container which is already cracked after just 2 months, and is so small we need to empty it everytime we use it. It does pick up well on the carpet, but the tools are flimsy and useless. I can’t even buy a motorised head for the stairs. I hate it.

It’s likely I’ll be looking for another vacuum this year as I don’t see it lasting and unfortunately it won’t be dyson.

JT05 · 07/01/2018 18:19

After years of a Mele, I bought a Henry. It’s every bit as good, except cheaper.
I have a cordless Dyson for a quick tidy up, it’s flimsy and I know it won’t last as long as Henry.

Undisputed56 · 07/01/2018 21:58

Right so have struck Dyson off the list! Will look at sharks as they seem to be recommended the most
Thanks everyone
