Posting for traffic. I desperately need a new vacuum, currently using a Gtech multi to clean my whole house which is 1) killing the poor thing 2) killing me bending over 😂

I have about £200-250 to spend. What should I get? I just can’t decide!
Have carpet throughout the house apart from kitchen and bathroom. No pets at present but do have 2 DC so fair amount of debris created day to day

Miele - took a bit if getting usdd to a cylibder after an upright dyson, and returning to bags, but it's really good.

makingmiracles · 07/01/2018 22:03

SHArk here also, have had mine 6m and I lovvvvve it!
Sometimes I hoover just for the sheer hell of it even though the carpets don’t like remotely dirty because it’s suction is bloody amazing and it’s astounding on a seemlingly clean carpet how much it will pick up!!

They also offer it on 6 payments(costs no more than outright) and you pay the first instalment, set a direct debit mandate and the hoover arrives quickly after ordering(in my case the very next day!) and then you just carrying on paying it off by direct debit for 5 more months, such an invaluable service.

WAs £179 btw for the liftaway, same model as mentioned upthread

Mrsmadevans · 07/01/2018 22:06

Miele cat and dog with turbo Amazing !

csigeek · 07/01/2018 22:07

Miele all the way.
Dyson are shit IMO and have had a few. Also auto corrects to stain so even Apple know they're cak 😂

IrkThePurist · 07/01/2018 22:11

If you have a lot of hoovering to do, consider a cylinder; you wont have to push around the whole weight of the motor. I've been happiest with my red Henry, and my old Morphy Richards cylinder vac. This one is on offer;

Had a dyson dc24 (rollerball)for 8 years and swore by them. Went to a friends house and her carpets were immaculate I asked her what brand she had it was a Miele. I changed 2 years ago (bought the Miele cat and dog) it is much better than dyson. Lightweight, easy to to stairs. Picks up everything. It is hard work doing carpets on the full power (you can adjust)- I do it on full power as I feel it's much cleaner- on the plus side I get a real work out x I also have a wet and dry George (Henrys brother!) this is also good but a faff to store

Advice79 · 07/01/2018 22:12

😂

Gran22 · 07/01/2018 22:17

We're on our second Miele, excellent quality. I wouldn't go back to a Dyson.

minicheddars90 · 07/01/2018 22:18

Had a Shark Liftaway for almost a year and it's a lot more powerful than the Dyson I had previously in my opinion, and it was half the price!

Brilliant on carpets, the suction is amazing for pet hair etc, picks up tonnes of dust etc that you can't even see.

Doesn't block every 5 mins like my old Dyson either, really easy to manoeuvre and take apart to clean. It just works!

MoKnickers · 07/01/2018 22:19

Shark pisses all over the Dyson.

DoubleAces · 07/01/2018 22:23

Shark Duoclean all the way!

Dogsmom · 07/01/2018 22:27

I've had Dysons for 20 years but next time will try something else, they say they don't lose suction but they do, when mine was new it lifted the carpet it was so powerful but now I have to go over the same spot a few times.

WeAllHaveWings · 07/01/2018 23:26

I’ve never like cylinders as I always find I’m bending over (I’m tall) and as the brush is so light I always feel the need to press down on it and it hurts my back, whereas with an upright I’m upright too and the weight of the vacuum means it’s less physical. Am I doing it wrong?

mrsharrison · 07/01/2018 23:33

I love my miele.

SandAndSea · 07/01/2018 23:37

Have a look at Argos. I recently bought an unbranded, white one from there (saw it recommended on here) and it was only £50. It's good!

MorningCuppa · 07/01/2018 23:38

Shark much better than dyson I love mine

theoldtrout01876 · 08/01/2018 02:03

I have a shark, it sucks like a slut Grin. Best vacuum Ive ever used. I LOVE it

BendyBusBuggy · 08/01/2018 02:19

I've had the same Miele for over 10 years. Would recommend it

hatty44 · 08/01/2018 02:21

Does the shark work well on hard floors? I’m currently sweeping our laminate floors daily and I would love a cordless vacuum that did a good job....

Praisebe · 08/01/2018 04:42

Hatty the duoclean has a special soft brush on the front which is great for dust and debris on hard floors mine brings it up shiny it has a buffing effect on it Grin just noticed if you buy via the shark website they are giving away a free coffee maker or blender with every duoclean Envy wish I'd put off buying ours so early

Owl1011 · 08/01/2018 04:48

Have sworn by by Dyson the last few years but it's recently started causing me quite a few issues so likely go for s shark next time

He11y · 08/01/2018 20:33

I’m a cleaner and I wouldn’t give you tuppence for a Henry, they are top heavy, not at all easy to store and the suction is rubbish. The only good thing about them is they are little work horses and will pick up anything.

If you get a Dyson then go for a ball one as they are considerably lighter and easier to manoeuvre - I have an animal one at home and wouldn’t swap it for anything. All Dysons can appear flimsy when you first start using them but they are sturdier than they seem.

The mini balls are good for portability, I use one every day for work, getting it in and out of my car and into different houses and on different floors and it’s fab. They don’t have quite as much suction as their big brother and the bin is a lot smaller but I don’t find it a problem.

I don’t think the rechargeable Dysons are any good unless for extremely light use and they are overpriced in my opinion.

Never tried a Shark but I’ve heard good things about the suction. I don’t see the point of the removable section but that might just be me.

If you get a Miele then make sure you get one with a wheeled head on it - without it they are very hard to push on some floors. They are quiet vacuums but I don’t find them easy to use.

Personally I love Dysons and wouldn’t consider anything else, I’d definitely never get a cylinder vacuum if you have a back problem as they’re far harder on your back in my experience. Try as many different ones as you can - ask anyone who will let you try their vacuum! lol

coconutpie · 08/01/2018 21:11

Henry. I've gone through 2 Dyson handhelds over the last few years - they cost a lot and just break down. The Henry was a fraction of the price and is amazing! I'm interested in the Shark ones now though after reading all the reviews here. I've heard the Miele cat and dog one is good too.

christmaspudding1 · 08/01/2018 21:31

hate my henry now due to this thread looking at a Shark, but a few to choose from, confusing
