1 cup of chai
1 toasted tea cake with marg.
1 cup a soup
4 slices of bread
4 M&S chicken pakora
1 pack of walkers fusions (baked crisps)
1 cup of coffee

How does this compare in quantity to what you eat?

Much less than what if eat in a day, I'm a healthy weight but could do with cleaning up my diet. Eg. Today I'll eat:

Croissant
Coffee

Roasted sweet potato with veg
Coconut chia seed pudding
Chocolate bar

Chicken Kiev
Spinach
Potato wedges
Probably another couple of chocolates

Ollivander84 · 06/01/2018 18:21

Ok I'm overweight but have lost 2st 7lbs and about 1st 7lbs to go

3 cups of tea, and 1.5l v weak sugar free cordial

Breakfast - omelette - 3 eggs, 2 pieces ham, handful grated cheese and a micro tub of beans

Lunch - porridge and banana

Snack - protein shake

Tea - muscle food chicken stir fry plus half a pack micro rice

That's a fairly typical day, if I'm working I don't always have tea and might have a latte instead

Serialweightwatcher · 06/01/2018 18:22

Just worked out the points you've had so far if doing weightwatchers and you're already at 28 without having dinner ... I get 23 per day and an extra 28 per week to use as and when if I want to - your 4 slices of bread are 9pts which is over a third of my daily points. Just to give you an idea that they're not great choices if wanting to lose - chicken breasts are now free foods on weightwatchers, so a chicken salad would be zero points and could possibly more filling than your lunch

Londonlady2015 · 06/01/2018 18:23

It does sound like quite an erratic diet. And if you lined it all up it would look quite beige too.

Soup tonight is a good start, though.

I find that when I feel rubbish I want junky, “comfort” food then feel worse and just kick myself for eating it. Doesn't stop me doing it sometimes though.

I’m not on a mission to lose weight but late last year I realised just how little fruit and veg I ate, so trying to sneak in here and there. I always want my son to eat well so I feel hypocritical if I don’t!

silkyducky · 06/01/2018 18:24

Op I know it must be so difficult but if you do change your diet and really try to add more fruit and veg, you may find you start feeling better in yourself mentally as well as physically. Try and get some fresh air when you can and you really will notice a difference. I found the body coach books amazing. Really easy recipes, packed with nutrients, varying in low/high carb meals. He generally includes good carbs too, not just bread. His books are called lean in 15.
I really hope you start to feel better. Thanks x

ObscuredbyFog · 06/01/2018 18:24

OP, a very easy way to start eating a healthier way is to look at the way you fill your plate or bowl.

Breakfast, try porridge. Not an easy packeted one, just real oats in milk of choice and/or water. Short of time in a morning, soak it the night before. no excuses, it's easy and it fills you up.

Lunch, Take a dinner plate. Add half a plateful of veg, one quarter of the plate protein and the controversy lies in the remaining quarter, some say carbs, others say fat, some say starch, others say grains.

Just for now, choose the half plate veg, quarter protein and make the other quarter something you like to eat.

Dinner, do the same as lunch but with different varieties of veg, protein and the other quarter.

Get at least 30 minutes outside in the fresh air every day.

Do that for a month. Review how you feel. More energy? Feel better in yourself? Less lethargic? Ready to start walking as a gentle form of exercise? Once you've got into eating good food, then you can mess around with the starch/fat/grains and initially gentle exercise.

It's really not difficult, don't put obstacles in your own way. Flowers

Whether under or over calorie wise is v dependent on your build, activity level, if you’re trying to lose weight, put weight on.

It’s certainly not a great day in terms of nutritional value. Those pakoras are lush though...

Darcychu · 06/01/2018 18:26

undereating but nothing valuable as no fruit or veg and no nutrients . enough to stop your metabolism.

wherethevioletsgrow · 06/01/2018 18:28

I would say it's undereating and there is quite little of nutritional value there.

I have had:
Porridge with chopped nuts and raspberries
Large bowl of homemade vegetable and lentil soup, 2 slices of rye bread and carrot sticks
Roasted kale, mushrooms, peppers and onions, tofu, rice, and a cashew dressing

Not sure how many calories are in there, but it has a good balance of carbs, fats and protein.

When I was on ADs, they made me gain weight. I think I gained around 2 stone in total and felt really down about it. It took a long while and a lot of effort to get that weight off.

I hate cooking. If I didn't have to eat, I wouldn't.So here's my current fav no-effort nutritious almost-instant meal.

In big bowl, lob several chunks of frozen spinach. zap for 3 minutes in microwave. Meanwhile, fry some cherry tomatoes, crack in a couple of eggs. Get the spinach out of the microwave, pour on a bit of olive oil and season (I put loads of chill salt on), then put the fried eggs/tomatoes ontop.

3 minutes start to finish. I don't actually like spinach otherwise, but like this it's really delicious.

If you eat loads of carbs and/or processed food, you will feel starving.

That 3 minutes meal could keep me going all day. And it's got protein, vitamins, good fats, iron etc etc. really nutritious, filling, quick and easy, and cheap.

Food aside, where/how else can you get help with mental health? Do you try to walk outside as much as possible? If GP is not helpful, can you switch, or can anyone else help?

Sammy900 · 06/01/2018 18:28

if you take out the drinking sounds like you've had a toasted tea cake for breakfast...cup o soup +bread for lunch and pakoras and crisps for tea

I'd say it was under eating because there's no main meal, pakoras and crisps might be a snack but if you stuck two main meals in there as well I reckon that would be over eating

Darcychu · 06/01/2018 18:29

heres what i ate today:

Breakfast - 2x Boiled eggs - 1 slice of bread - Orange Juice
Lunch - Fruit and natural Yogurt
dinner - Chicken and Veg

If i feel snackish ill either eat fruit or Vegetable batons with Humous/Coleslaw

JustDanceAddict · 06/01/2018 18:29

Where's the fruit and veg and decent protein? Seriously. If you are trying to diet this isn’t great. You need complex carbs, healthy fats and lean protein.

Missingstreetlife · 06/01/2018 18:31

You need protein, cheese egg meat fish beans (hummus). Put some chickpeas in your soup

Rubies12345 · 06/01/2018 18:31

Where's your five a day? You'll get scurvy

Vitalogy · 06/01/2018 18:34

Basically, your diet today has been bread/wheat.
If you've not much of an appetite I'd get a check up at GP's.
I've just been looking at this vitamin liquid for my son, his diet isn't great and he gets tired.

is this over or under eating?
JustDanceAddict · 06/01/2018 18:35

Hidingalion · 06/01/2018 18:37

I know it's a typo but "dinner like a popper" made me unwittingly LOL

CotswoldStrife · 06/01/2018 18:38

OP, I think you'd find it easier to follow a diet plan as it would be both low-calorie and filling, which is where yours falls down - you are focusing on low calorie but because it's not very filling you are eating extras. Good luck with the diet, you sound determined to do something which is a good start.

WazFlimFlam · 06/01/2018 18:38

OP, there is nothing in that that says you want to look after yourself. I hate the 'what did I eat today' threads, but here goes, just for you:

Poached egg and avocado on pumpernickel

Smoked mackerel and watercress with some ryvita and cottage cheese

Morocan pumpkin vegan tart with tzatziki

(and a beer I have been saving to celebrate filing and paying my tax return!!!)

You need some veg and protein.

streetlife70s · 06/01/2018 18:39

It’s a whole lot of nothing. In other words, it’s a lot of stuff that will make you gain weight and feel crap but will leave you feeling starving. You could eat less but feel much fuller and loose weight by getting rid of those carbs and filling up on the protein and veg / fruit.

specialsubject · 06/01/2018 18:39

Not good with that username... Are you OK?

Llangollen · 06/01/2018 18:44

you would be better off eating a kilo of grated carrots and a piece of chicken!

Blackteadrinker77 · 06/01/2018 18:45

Without your height/weight/sex/activity level and without the packaging from each item we can't know.

Nutritionally it is almost void of macros and micros.

tailsandscales · 06/01/2018 18:49

It’s not great but not that terrible either. depending on how big your soup was for dinner you could have had 3 of your 5 a day. Have a big fruit salad for pudding and you’ve had your 5 😀

Today I’ve had:
Morning: banana + handful of nuts
Lunch: 1/2 a sweet potato, 2 veg sausages and broccoli
1 apple
Dinner: small bowl of veg and lentil soup

Tbh that’s probably less than 1000 calories but I’m not hungry or underweight so I’m not worrying about it. You can’t judge a diet on a single day.
Occasionally I can’t be bothered either and just eat crisps or sweets for a whole day. When that happens I eat lots of fruit and veg the next day to balance it out. Maybe you could do that tomorrow?
