1 cup of chai
1 toasted tea cake with marg.
1 cup a soup
4 slices of bread
4 M&S chicken pakora
1 pack of walkers fusions (baked crisps)
1 cup of coffee

How does this compare in quantity to what you eat?

Where's the nutritions for your poor body ? Confused

You've too much stodgy, processed junk and NO veg

Replace some stodge by 5 portions veg and a piece of fruit
Swap pekoras for some decent protein

ManchesterGin · 06/01/2018 17:52

Why 4 slices of bread? Plain? As a sandwich? What else will you have today/tonight? It's not a great deal but unlikely to mean you lose weight in my opinion.

halfwitpicker · 06/01/2018 17:52

You're diet is just basically total junk, sorry.

Here's what I've had:

Two scrambled eggs
Slice toast with peanut butter
Coffee

Huge bowl lentil and veg soup, crackers, couple of slices of cheese and two slices ham

More coffee

Tea will be chicken in a mushroom and bacon sauce probably served with carrots
Cheesecake for dessert as it's Dd's birthday

PurpleDaisies · 06/01/2018 17:52

It sounds like you need to talk to your GP. Have you struggled with depression before? Loss of appetite and enjoyment of things are two ways it can affect you.

Anditstartsagain · 06/01/2018 17:52

It's not much but too much bread and nit enough filling food you should be eating food that will help you feel full for longer.

I tend to do breakfast like a king lunch like a queen and dinner like a popper when i'm dieting if I started the day with a toasted tea cake i'd be starving all day.

IJoinedJustToPostThis · 06/01/2018 17:52

... how do you decide what to eat?
Flavour?
Texture?
Time taken to prepare?
Cost of ingredients?
Kitchen equipment?
Allergies/intolerances?
Anything else?

Just wondering what's driving your decisions here.

To answer your question, that's probably about the same quantity in terms of calories as I've eaten today, but I haven't had dinner yet.

SparkleFizz · 06/01/2018 17:53

If a pakora is the size of a large strawberry I’m leaning towards under eating then. I was imagining something Cornish pasty sized Blush

Itmakesthereaderreadon · 06/01/2018 17:53

I'm tall and seen as slim.
I've had: breakfast muffin, half baton with hummus, 5Xmas chops, Baileys(not back to work yet), will have 1/3 asda big pizza later and wine.

Normal day: English muffin, banana, 5oat cakes and Philadelphia, nuts, possibly salmon/quorn, rice/couscous/spud, broccoli, carrot, peas, peppercorn, cauli for tea.

Jenijena · 06/01/2018 17:56

I’ve had a bowl of fruit and fibre with oat milk. Butternut squash soup and a small piece of bread with a slither of cheese. Stir fry veg (carrots onions mushroom cabbage peppers), noodles and a tiny amount of steak. A few tiny chocolate biscuits.

depthsofdespair · 06/01/2018 17:57

4 slices of bread to dip in the soup Blush

i have a home made vegetable soup for dinner - tomato, celery and onion.

i've seen the gp about depression but it's just a case of take the tablets and go away

Oh OP I'm afraid I am going to echo everyone else in that it's a mess nutritionally speaking. It sounds like you are trying to just starve yourself but of course ending uo just eating the wrong things. Focus on eating unprocessed, healthy foods like vegetables and wholemeal pasta or rice with lean protein. You really don't need to stop eating to lose weight, its unhealthy and unsustainable. Focus on eating nutritionally balanced meals and you will start to notice a difference. It doesnt have to be borings either, you can have really tasty homemade curry and chilli packed out with lentils and lots of veg.

halfwitpicker · 06/01/2018 18:03

Four slices of bread to dip in the soup is unnecessary as I'm sure you know.

Have two bowls of soup and a few crackers and some full fat cheese on the side.

It's hard I know, you automatically think soup = bread, but making small changes adds up.

humblesims · 06/01/2018 18:03

Veg soup sounds like a great idea OP. As others have said the rest is not great. Thing is, a lot of the rubbish in food like that can actually exscerbate depression. A good diet can really really help with that (I'm not saying its a magic wand). Its hard to switch because some of that food contains stuff which is hard to kick but really the veg soup is a great idea and a great start. Try and swap some of the crisps and bread for veg and fruit (and nuts). :)

RavingRoo · 06/01/2018 18:05

It looks like quite a lot of calories for very little nutritional content

lostinspaceyetagain · 06/01/2018 18:07

The cup a soup will have been low in calories but with 4 slices of bread it is more calories than a full meal.

Angelicinnocent · 06/01/2018 18:09

Diet can also have an effect on depression so it is important to make the effort to cook healthy and nutritional meals. You need your bodies basic needs satisfied to focus on improving your mental health.

eddielizzard · 06/01/2018 18:10

where's the fruit and veg? i see carbs (tea cake, bread, crisps), bit of protein.

you need to eat a lot more fruit and veg. a bit of cheese, a few nuts. a nice salad. eggs are great. very filling and low in calories.

lonelymum86 · 06/01/2018 18:13

Hi OP. Could you afford to see a dietician? To set a plan for you?

You really need so much more fruit and veg.

My today.
Sliced ginger and lemon in hot water
AM boiled egg and small slice of ‘so organic’ seeded wholemeal bread

Homemade chicken soup with a small cheese sandwich (the little breads again) and spinach, betroot, red onion , cucumber, tomato salad

Snack - a penguin bar oops!

Tea - homemade carrot and pepper curry with two wholemeal Chappatis - homemade

Snack - orange
I am overweight and exercise. I need to cut down my carbs!!

I’m not an example diet at all but I’m trying hard to get more veg in

YearOfYouRemember · 06/01/2018 18:15

If you're over 45 come and join us on the thread I'm on. All in the same boat and supportive.

I had a terrible breakfast, a croissant, but dinner was tuna steak and broccoli, carrots and cauliflower. Lots of ideas on the thread. The stuff you've eaten will just sit in your stomach, not sustain you and make you feel crap and eat more.

usualGubbins · 06/01/2018 18:16

Think you need more fluids too - try drinking a glass of water every couple of hours. It'll stop a lot of the hunger/thirst pangs and will do wonders for your skin too!

user789653241 · 06/01/2018 18:16

For one day, I think it's fine, if it's what you eat regularly, you are destined suffer illness. It's not about under or over eating, it's about what you are eating.

Serialweightwatcher · 06/01/2018 18:17

You've got a lot of carbs there if you are wanting to lose weight ... I've just started weightwatchers again and had:

Branflakes with skimmed milk
2 healthy living cumberland sausages & cauliflower (I know it's odd but needed to eat the cauliflower or throw it), one tablespoon of cottage cheese
Tonight will either have turkey mince balti which I made last night with lots of salad or veg, or piece of salmon with salad/veg
Later on will probably have 2 or 4 crackerbreads with some rollmop herrings

Fairylea · 06/01/2018 18:17

Sounds like just a load of snacks to me.

For comparison today I’ve had-
2 crumpets with clover
1 banana
Lunch was Bella italia pasta with spinach and mushrooms
1 bag of milkybar buttons
Dinner will be fish cakes and salad

ZaraW · 06/01/2018 18:18

As everyone else said your diet is awful.

user789653241 · 06/01/2018 18:19

My FIL suffered irreplaceable nerve damage from lack of vitamines through unhealthy eating habit. It's quite scary. Now he needs injection every 3 months.
