To feel slightly uncomfortable with this?

I have 2 very reluctant clothes shoppers for sons and so end up doing a lot of their clothes shopping online and then they can say yay or nay at home. Today I have been looking at the Jack Wills site, exclusively at the men's clothing - jeans, shirts, etc, and have put some items in the basket. When I looked at the basket it gave me some suggestions of other things I might like. Based on my browsing history, why on earth would it come up with this other than thinking I'm a randy teenage boy?

Also, while the male models are a healthy 32R sort of size model, these girls are clearly underage/underweight.

These women are not underweight or under age, I'm surprised you think so. In fact they look healthy,

You can see women or men in their underwear on any site that sells underwear, and it was just a random selection. What difference does it make? If they want to see it they can just click.

Honestly you won't hide your kids being able to look at women in their underwear if they chose to look if they have internet access. Confused

peppapigwouldmakelovelyrashers · 05/01/2018 15:52

So you think that having shopped for men's clothes I would then want to see young girls in underwear

The algorithm thinks that. It means that the thing shoppers often look after the mens clothes is women in their underwear. So maybe women buy mens clothes and then buy their own knickers, or men buy their own clothes and then have a look at half naked women.

CorbynsBumFlannel · 05/01/2018 15:53

I think you need to calm yourself down op. You'd have a fit if you saw them suggesting a kids swimsuit to me when I was ordering suncream on the Boots website. The child model must have been about 5!
You could be buying for your dd, yourself or be a man buying for his gf.
And the models look like perfectly healthy 20 yr olds.

Lweji · 05/01/2018 15:54

I don't know, this looks awfully thin to me:

I used to be like this. Well until I got pregnant.

Thanks. Grin

RumTiTum · 05/01/2018 15:54

It says the models are wearing a size 10, my average sized 12 year old is too small for JW size 4, so the models can't be that underweight.

Bluntness100 · 05/01/2018 15:55

Op also if you calm down and think about it logically, the last person to be buying female underwear is usually teenage boys. It's a sales site. So odds are the vast majority of people buying are women. Their mums. Or your browsing history reveals that.

Jack wills goal isn't to tittalate teenage boys. It's to sell goods and they ain't selling female undies to skint teenage boys. I think you can rest assured of that. Boys don't look at those images and think "ooh I shall buy a bra".

Lweji · 05/01/2018 15:57

Based on my browsing history, why on earth would it come up with this other than thinking I'm a randy teenage boy?

If you have a google/chrome account, they will know you're a female, and they may well link your info to the shop.

That's the Virtual Big Brother world we live in. I'd worry more about that than the thought that they were showing young girls in underwear to young boys.

Also, if you bought boys underwear in two different sizes, it's not a stretch to create an algorithm that decides it was a mum buying.

swingofthings · 05/01/2018 15:57

They look about 15 to me, so yes under age.
This is so annoying. DD is 18 and looks about 12 in some pictures. Everyone thinks her 15yo brother is older. Some young people do look younger, I did too (and still do thank you!!).

astoundedgoat · 05/01/2018 15:58

Only slightly related (models in knickers), but I love the Aerie campaigns (American Eagle's underwear collection) - they don't do any airbrushing now and use "normal" young women, with actual breasts, bums and tummies:

ProseccoMamam · 05/01/2018 15:58

The pictures are suggestions. If you are logged into your account the site will know you are a woman as so have given you suggestions from the women's clothing.

Please elaborate on how you came to the conclusion that the models used were starved children?

WorraLiberty · 05/01/2018 16:00

astoundedgoat are you suggesting the Jack Wills models are abnormal?

Elendon · 05/01/2018 16:02

OP they look like healthy late teens to me - 16 plus. I once looked like that.

But I do agree with you in that it should not have been flagged up based on your browsing history.

Creepy and unnecessary.

Elendon · 05/01/2018 16:05

Some adult females don't have bums though. They can also have 34a chests until they are mid thirties and post two children. (I'm not projecting much, honest).

JanetStWalker · 05/01/2018 16:06

The thread isn't about your daughter, or you. Hmm

BitOutOfPractice · 05/01/2018 16:10

FWIW I just clicked onto the JW site for the first time ever and it said "you recently viewed" one of the pictures from your OP!

BitOutOfPractice · 05/01/2018 16:14

I looked at a man's hoodie, and popped a man's t-shirt in my bag, and when I went to check out, guess what I got...see pic

So it's not clever algorithms or your browsing history, everyone gets it!!

Sorry, taking this back and replacing by 'what a stupid comment!'. Is that better for you?

Bluntness100 · 05/01/2018 16:15

Huge lol at some of the comments. I'd put good money those girls are twenty years old plus. I have a twenty year old daughter and her and her friends all look younger than that.

Whatever way you cut it those are adult models all day long.

I'm also curious op why you're sense of body weight is so skewed. There are no bones on display, they are simply healthy weight, fit females, slender yes, but no way under weight.

greenlids · 05/01/2018 16:17

They are not underweight. That's what humans are supposed to look like.

SparklyMagpie · 05/01/2018 16:17

Off point but I wish i had their toned tummies !! Grin

There are bigger things to worry about than this though!

I don't think they look underage or underweight!!

I'm slightly Envy because I wasn't far off looking like them before I had my son...that's the only thing that's gets me pulling my knickers up 😂

TheHolidayArmadillo · 05/01/2018 16:19

They're not underweight. They won't be underage. JW will have chosen those particular models because they'll fit in with their "wholesome/fresh-faced posh kid" aesthetic. A lot of women in their late teens/early 20s look younger when they're not covered in makeup.

BouncingIntoGraceland · 05/01/2018 16:21

My teen dd is much slimmer than those models despite eating anything that isn't nailed down.
I was the same at her age.

Great to know she's abnormal Hmm

MikeUniformMike · 05/01/2018 16:25

Size 4 to 16 (31" to 41" bust, 33" to 42" hips) is a fairly decent size range.

SoupDragon · 05/01/2018 16:26

They are not underweight. That's what humans are supposed to look like.

This.

I bet they are adults too.

irregularegular · 05/01/2018 16:28

Size 4 to 16 (31" to 41" bust, 33" to 42" hips) is a fairly decent size range.

Don't see any pictures of most of those sizes though.
