... and don't bring tour germs into work. Everyone at my DHs office has caught a cold and are sneezing and coughing. My three month old DS has caught it. :(

Washing hands before anyone picks up baby would help

But I work with the public and they cough without handkerchief to contain there germs, which is both unpleasant and unhygienic- bring back hankies

happystory · 05/01/2018 07:13

I work in a school. It's been a terrible term for bugs. Like the pp said, the school could have barely run if everyone with a cold had stayed off. It's not nice when little babies have colds but they could have caught it anywhere.

dudsville · 05/01/2018 07:14

In an ideal world I'd prefer it if folks stayed in when they weren't well. I say this having caught the cold in time for Christmas break. Having time off meant I luxuriated in being ill guilt free, I. E. Sleeping when I needed to and not worrying about taking meds that would leave me drowsy. It was the best cold I've ever had.

pictish · 05/01/2018 07:17

Happy so do I and of course the colds do the rounds...but if we all stayed at home, the place would cease to function.

BonnesVacances · 05/01/2018 07:19

I know how you feel. I feel murderous towards colleagues who proudly announce how brave and stoic they were coming into work instead of taking a day off sick.

DD has a chronic illness which makes her very vulnerable to colds so I'm more aware of it than most. I have a bottle of anti-bac gel on my desk to protect me from picking up a cold from my colleagues and bringing it home.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 05/01/2018 07:19

I have every sympathy with you, but if everyone stayed at home with a cold, society would collapse for approx 4 months of the year, at least. Flu, or D&V, yes. But colds - it's not called the common cold for nothing.

We need a big public information campaign on handwashing and a rerun of the Coughs and Sneezes Spread Diseases stuff from the war (or the 50s?)

missadasmith · 05/01/2018 07:19

Op, coughs and colds are everywhere. I assume you are leaving the house with DS or are you hiding inside. If you are going outside, how do you know DS got the bug from DH's office Hmm

and a big fat VABU - are you seriously suggesting DHs colleagues should stay at home with colds so DS doesn't get them?

BurnTheBlackSuit · 05/01/2018 07:21

It's horrible when your little baby has a cold and can't breathe and feed properly, so you have my sympathy.

As others have said, people can't stay off work with a cold. But they could practice a lot more hygiene- catch it, bin it, kill it etc. A bit more soap would be a lot less colds...

Llangollen · 05/01/2018 07:22

You are BU about the office.

However, parents should keep their children away from playgroups, soft plays and baby groups when they are unwell! There's no obligation to be there, there are lots of other things to do, imposing your sick child spreading his germs is just not on. Unfortunately, you always find a lazy and/or entitled parent who proudly brings a child because them, the adult, needs a break. Twats.

Cheby · 05/01/2018 07:22

If everyone stayed off when they have a cold during winter the country would grind to a halt! Flu, d&v etc, then yes stay at home. Common cold, woman up and get on with it.

I know it’s horrid when your baby is ill but if they’re going to build up an immune system they are going to have to catch and deal with numerous viruses. Is this your first OP? It does sound slightly PFB. When DD2 was born, DD1 was at pre school (basically a germ factory). DD2 has her first cold at 6 days old. It was horrid but it wasn’t the end of the world.

GTD17 · 05/01/2018 07:23

Wow.

givemesteel · 05/01/2018 07:24

Please try and ignore all the people who have made unpleasant comments OP, it is annoying when your family gets ill, easy to blame who you caught it off.

Unfortunately you can't avoid germs, at work, every time you go out really. When your child starts nursery/school you have to accept that half the kids there have got a runny nose / some sort of bug and that your child will catch it, which means you'll probably catch it too.

I am much more ill than I used to be before kids because of what I pick up from dc, and that was when I worked in an open plan air con office and used the tube.

Cabininthewoods69 · 05/01/2018 07:26

I wish we could stay at home but who would look after the residents or patients who are also poorly.

I feel for you and your poorly baby but at least your at home to look after her and don't have to work, I mean that in a silver lining way as life can feel pretty bleak when children are ill

Branleuse · 05/01/2018 07:27

I hate it when people spread their germs about but its a fact of life. Your husband needs to wash his hands better and take more vitamins in cold season to avoid catching things and passing them on. You cant expect people to stay home all winter. You have to build your own immune system up

AuntLydia · 05/01/2018 07:28

I agree with you there Llangollen. I always stay away from unnecessary stuff like that when the kids have a cold but there's always at least one child there spreading snot all over the toys...

bruffin · 05/01/2018 07:29

My dd was 2 days old when she had her first cold caught from me, as i had a temperature when i went i arrived at the hospital.

dontbesillyhenry · 05/01/2018 07:32

Ffs woman.
I've had a cold that has come and gone since the start of December. I would be on a disciplinary if I stayed at home. Sorry your pfb has caught a cold but that's life and your child may well have caught one just from going to the supermarket

bluetongue · 05/01/2018 07:32

YABU. I don’t take many sick days so will sometimes take the first day or two of a nasty cold off, especially if I have a temperature. I won’t however take every day I am sick with a cold off. My workplace would grind to a halt if everyone did that.

Last cold I had morphed into a nasty post viral cough that latest weeks. Once again, I took a few days off to try and shake it but could hardly stay off work for nearly four weeks waiting for my cough to stop.

Wineasaurous · 05/01/2018 07:32

I have a cough and slightly blocked sinuses. I'm perfectly capable of doing my job. If everyone who has a slightly cold wasn't in my office this week, the office couldn't cope, we'd make a huge loss and potentially jobs would be at risk. There would be about 4 people in an office of 12 who would have to cover the additional workload. Can't you see how unreasonable this would be?
Kids get colds. Just be mindful of your little one, make sure they get plenty of fluids, check temperature etc. The whole world can't stop just in case your baby catches a cold.

bimbimbap · 05/01/2018 07:38

i agree with the few who have pointed out that your baby didn’t catch anything directly from your husband’s colleagues. if you’re really going to try and prevent your child getting sick, the focus is on you and your husband to wash hands/cover up your mouth & nose when infectious.

SporadicSpartacus · 05/01/2018 07:38

I guess I’m one of those malingerers. I will call in sick with a bad cold if I feel too unwell for a 3 hour round trip and a 8 hour workday.

Interestingly, I’m very rarely ill and have an excellent sickness record. Could be something to do with listening to body and not pushing self when genuinely unwell?

dontbesillyhenry · 05/01/2018 07:40

Or perhaps your employers are more reasonable than mine sporadic

Littleraincloud · 05/01/2018 07:41

YABU in wanting people to stay off work, but as previous posters say - its not unreasonable to expect grown adults to take a little responsibility. I've been I'll all Christmas and now my two DC are I'll for the start of term. Bad luck, yes, but I'm pointing the finger squarely at the people at work coughing and sneezing all over the place without a) a tissue or b) washing/ santising their hands. What is it with people just not blowing their noses anymore?! Everyone seems to rather sniffle, cough it back and then complain about the resulting headache than just pick up a tissue and blow it out. Its pretty basic. Also I have a public facing job and people literally cough and sneeze in my face and then fish for sympathy. USE A BASTARD TISSUE!!

PurplePillowCase · 05/01/2018 07:41

hahaha

could you live off ssp?

Littleraincloud · 05/01/2018 07:42

Wow angrier than I intended
