AIBU to take all of my holiday in the 4 months before I start Mat leave?

So my holiday entitlement resets on April 1st. I'm due either late July or early August.
WIBU to use up all 21 days before I start maternity leave?

Just picturing how lovely it'd be to do a few shorter weeks towards the end Grin

WWYD?

I would add my holiday to the start of mat leave, and get a bit longer.

If you can I would carry it over and add it on to end of mat leave, longer at home with baby!

If you're taking a year you also acculmulate annual leave whilst on maternity, yay :) of course YANBU. Its common to put a couple of weeks on to the front of ypur maternity leave.

Maxbenji · 04/01/2018 12:44

yes use it up! I used 2 weeks of annual leave before mat leave, but wish I'd done 4 day weeks instead!

TheNoseyProject · 04/01/2018 12:44

I took it all straight before my mat leave started - was glorious! Did it both times and would very much recommend!

It's fine. Do it however you think it will work best for you. If you want to stay in work in some capacity but on reduced hours for as long as you can, it might suit you better than finishing 3 weeks earlier or whatever and going straight from full hours to nothing.

Only thing is, will work allow? They can't stop you from going off on ML but they can stop you from eg taking every Friday off between now and due date, provided they're not doing that because of your pregnancy.

I went on mat leave at 38 weeks. I did weeks 25 - 35 as 4 day weeks and weeks 35 - 38 as 3 day weeks. It was lovely! But just lucky that I got a new allocation of annual leave just as I found out I was pregnant so I had enough to plan this. And obviously agreement from my manager.

I did 3 day weeks towards the end of my first pregnancy, it was lovely. I also saved some and added it onto the end of my mat leave so I got some full-time pay before I came back part time which helped with the finances.

I would add the holiday to the maternity leave to get more time with DC :)

I booked 4 weeks annual leave before my mat leave meaning I got to leave work at 35+3 and will still get a full year off with the baby (depending on when she arrives obviously!). I felt totally fine up until about 36+3 when I started to get a bit tired so it's worked out perfectly for me.
