Ds puking stomach acid. AIBU to cancel his birthday party?

Ds is due to turn one on Saturday and we are having a small gathering at home - just for tea and cake.

This morning he's puked four times - mostly stomach acid.

I have to cancel his birthday party, don't I? There will be a four week old, a four month old and then three other babies from 8-14 months plus their parents.

I would, it’s a shame but I wouldn’t risk it! Hope he feels better soon

SinisterBumFacedCat · 04/01/2018 10:30

Cancel. It won't be much fun for your DS, plus if it's infectious you could come down with it too (sorry)

Prusik · 04/01/2018 10:32

I seriously can't come down with this bug!!! I'm due at the hospital tomorrow for a growth scan to decide whether they are going to induce ds2.

Ah bugger

Yes, I probably would, sorry Prusik. Guidance states to keep children away from others for 48 hours after the last instance of vomiting or diarrhoea. You’re borderline on that for an afternoon party (assuming he isn’t sick again later).

On the plus side, at least he’s only 1 and won’t realise. Could you rearrange for next/another weekend?

ChasedByBees · 04/01/2018 10:46

I would say yes to cancelling.

Prusik · 04/01/2018 10:50

I'm not holding out any hope. He looks grey and was cool to the touch when I went to him this morning.

Good job we'd only planned something low key.

Awww poor ds Flowers Good luck for the scan!

SparkleFizz · 04/01/2018 11:48

Yes, cancel the party. It’s a shame, but he won’t enjoy it when he’s ill, and the other parents won’t want their babies catching it (might be contagious).

Best of luck for your scan tomorrow. Flowers

Party has duly been cancelled. He's had 1.and a half bananas today and a small amount of milk. Constant hiccups though so I wonder if it was some sort of.random acid attack. Can't be sure though so I'd rather cancel. Now to decide what to do with our day (if I don't get induced tomorrow) bet DH will want to spend the day decorating

I had to cancel my sons first birthday party for similar reasons even after spending ages making cars out of cardboard boxes for the kids to play with and homemade chocolates that were to be the party favours.

Prusik · 04/01/2018 17:59

I just bought an Asda cake last night. That was the extent of my prep Wink good news in a way though - my friends baby who I've seen this week also started puking today so I made the right decision

Presumably you aren't taking him to the hospital either.

Prusik · 04/01/2018 19:09

Oh god no sorry to be so reasonable Wink

The plan was to leave him at home anyway. My cousin is having him. He's too much of an active baby pain in the arse to expect him to deal with a waiting room and then a scan situation even when he's well

OP posts:
Prusik · 04/01/2018 19:09

Plus he's just puked his milk up all over me and the sofa

OP posts:
Prusik · 04/01/2018 19:10

I just have to pray that I don't get it

To catch a stomach bug you actually have to ingest some of the puke/poo particles.

Wash your hands a LOT, use antibacterial gel and try not to touch your face at all. Eat far, far away from puke-boy and I hope he feels better soon,

Willswife · 04/01/2018 19:25

We had to cancel a 1st birthday party for exactly the same reason.

Agree with pp, hand wash a lot and personally I always cover my mouth and nose when they're being sick. I feel a bit bad doing so but I am quite phobic about vomit and I take every precaution I can!

I hope that he is recovered by his birthday and that he keeps his germs to himself!

StopTheRoundabout · 04/01/2018 19:26

Without a doubt you should cancel because he is vomiting. He is one and won't notice. Hope he feels better soon

Prusik · 04/01/2018 20:48

Cover my mouth and nose? I covered his mouth and nose Grin bad parenting

sounds like your ds and friends dc may have caught the bug at the same time...for them both to be puking at the same time.

good on you for cancelling the party, he wont mind, and I am sure everyone you invited is glad you cancelled rather than let their dc catch it too.

fingers crossed you dont catch it.... as others have said....wash wash and wash hands again. do you have anti-bac gel? when my dc had D&V other week i would wash and then use gel after. and spray anti bac spray on all the door handles, and taps and toilet....I swear our toilet has never been so clean lol it was cleaned everytime I poured puke down it (we use a sick jug to catch sick so its portable and fits their face in to keep all sick IN the jug!!!

Prusik · 04/01/2018 21:58

It's weird cuz none of us have really had contact with many others due to Christmas period.

Ds so far has really only managed to puke in his cot, on the rug, on me, on himself and on the armchair.

I'll get some antibacterial stuff tomorrow. I don't have any as I don't really believe in overkill with sanitiser on a day to day basis

Ds seems right as rain this morning so far. He slept through (unusual) and only had 1oz of milk for bed but has eaten a whole banana and four raspberries for breakfast plus about 1oz of milk. He's kept it down so far and is playing happily. Tomorrow might not be a complete disaster after all. DH said we'd have our own little party for him tomorrow, just the three of us Star
