AIBU to smash up his camcorder

My DH gave me a fake lottery scratch card and videoed me secretly whilst I jumped around thinking that I had won 50 grand.

Whilst I'm not usually that gullible, It did not occur to me that he would do something so totally disrespectful to his own wife.

This really upset me when he took great joy in showing the footage to my grown up children and laughing out loud at me.

AIU to be so upset and smash his camcorder into tiny bits. He doesn't know yet what I've done!!

Why would anyone think that was funny? That’s really horrible. Smash it to pieces.

chickenowner · 03/01/2018 11:40

I think that's a really nasty thing to do.

I'm not sure I would want to live with a man like that.

BitOutOfPractice · 03/01/2018 11:41

I hate using the "if this were a man..." card but really? Smashing up is not on. Neither is the prank. But smashing someone's things up is not on

Pfftkids · 03/01/2018 11:41

I can't believe the amount of people that are agreeing and saying it's acceptable to smash his video camera up because of a prank.
I hope you're going to replace it. If a guy done that to a woman everyone on here would be crying "leave the bastard!!"

Oldraver · 03/01/2018 11:42

I hate pranks like this, they are not funny at all.

Does anyone remember that lad that spent a whole year filming his Mum while he threw eggs at her ? So disrespectful

acornsandnuts · 03/01/2018 11:43

My MIL did the same thing to me and DH just after we told her I was pregnant. I still can’t believe the women would have thought it was funny. The relief of not having to be worried about money for a while then for her to laugh when she told us it was fake. Some people are weird.

BattleCuntGalactica · 03/01/2018 11:43

I'd fucking strangle him. I hate pranks, they're not at all funny for the poor sod being pranked. I'd actually deep fry the thing, in front of him and film it on your phone. Upload that to the internet and see how he likes it.

OldPony · 03/01/2018 11:44

Why would anyone do something so humiliating and disappointing to someone they love.

Blackteadrinker77 · 03/01/2018 11:45

I would have laughed personally but me and my husband are like little kids still.

We burnt all the embarrassing footage of our DD and gave it to her DH one year for Christmas Halo

Cantuccit · 03/01/2018 11:45

acornsandnuts

Did you guys ever pay her back for the prank?

hollowtree · 03/01/2018 11:46

This would have been my reaction too. Sorry but it would

Psychobabble123 · 03/01/2018 11:46

What a dick! I'd be upset too OP

Nevertoomuch22 · 03/01/2018 11:47

I have to add he can be very disrespectful in many ways, and this alone I probably, and did at first laugh it off. He's bit of a narcissist and doesn't care about peoples feelings.

I did smash the camera, but did buy him another for xmas. I do feel really bad now.

Cantuccit- no not worth the effort. Lost a lot of respect for her that hasn’t ever come back 20 years on.

lookingforthecorkscrew · 03/01/2018 11:48

Looks like Jeremy Beadle is very much alive after all! Are both your husband’s hands the same size? Does he have a beard?

FreddieClaryHorshieLion · 03/01/2018 11:49

Black

Well, yes... but I’m assuming that the OP (like most other people) could have really used the money.
It’s different than showing some embarrassing children’s pictures on someone’s wedding or birthday, for example. (In my case we had me sleeping on a horse and being up to my ears covered in pasta and tomato sauce...)

This prank actually feels genuinely malicious.

TheQueenOfWands · 03/01/2018 11:49

I'd have fucked his best mate too.

He's a dick.

ohfourfoxache · 03/01/2018 11:50

If he’s like this in other ways then have you really thought about why you’re with him?

MaryMcCarthy · 03/01/2018 11:50

So on top of your fake lottery win, you're now going to have to shell out for a replacement camera?

My motto in life is don't smash things up because you'll regret it and it's the act of an childish, petulant person who is unable to control their impulses. Is this the example you set to your kids?

StealthNinjaMum · 03/01/2018 11:54

You smashed the camera?!!! What a waste, you could've given it to a local charity or youth group.

If he's really a narcissist you need to think about leaving but I think destroying his property isn't defensible.

PatriciaHolm · 03/01/2018 11:54

So is the one you've smashed a new one or an old one? Confused.

Anyway, his behaviour is appalling. Why are you with him if he's a disrespectful narcissist?

AnachronisticCorpse · 03/01/2018 11:58

Who the fuck still has camcorders in this day and age?

mumpoints · 03/01/2018 12:00

Oh that must have been awful OP. I'm so sorry. What was he trying to do or prove?

And if you were angry enough to smash his video recorder then he'll have to live with the consequences, as you have to live with the consequences of his.

A friend of mine once asked me to open and deal her mail when she was working away. She won £1000 on the premium bonds. I told her and she immediately asked if I was making it up! I said no, why would I? And she said it was the kind of joke that her family always played when growing up. It must be awful to have to live like that, not trusting anything. :(

lookingforthecorkscrew · 03/01/2018 12:01

Send it to You’ve Been Framed. Get the £100. Buy a big gun. Film yourself shooting husband in kneecap. Immediately replay video and hoot with laughter at it.

Loonoonow · 03/01/2018 12:05

He was mean and spiteful. You threw a temper tantrum. Not sure which is worse.
